You Are My Sunshine with Elle’s Studio

Scrapbook Sessions

Hello everyone!! Jody here on the blog and I’m so excited to be hanging out with you!  Today I’m sharing a bright and sun-shiny layout from the Elle’s Studio Sunny Days collections, along with the new Alma Mater sequins.  I had a lot of fun creating this layout, especially since the subject of my photo is super adorable 🙂  We were playing school and practicing writing letters 🙂 She starts 4K in just a couple weeks.. sniff sniff.

I started with the super cute yellow stripe background paper from Elle’s Studio and my photo.  I knew I wanted to play up the the darker color of the chalkboard and the navy blue from Abby’s Brewer’s T-shirt so I used the Mermaid Hair Don’t Care” cut file from SpiegelMom Scraps and the other Elle’s Studio papers.  I created some messy layers behind my 4×4″ photo and set it aside.  I needed something else behind that messy photo matte.

Lately I’ve been playing around with cutting vellum on my Silhouette Portrait and just love it!  I used one of the free SMS “Mermaid Hair Don’t Care” cut file (here).  I just used the single heart in the cut file set and cut a bunch of them out to use on future projects.  I kept the negative piece of vellum from all those lovely hearts and used it as another layer behind my photo.  I really like the subtle layer!  It adds just right amount of ‘something‘ I was looking for.         Untitled (2)

Here is one of the lovely vellum hearts, layered up with two other hearts cut using the Mermaid Hair Don’t Care cut fileTim Holtz Tiny Attacher staples, a wood veneer and puffy stickers from the Sunny Days collection and some Alma Mater sequins

This sweet little heart was fussy cut from the negatives left on the Elle’s Studio paper I die cut these hearts from.  I simply fussy cut around the heart negative to get this fun heart outline!

You can also get a closer look at my journaling spot in the upper right corner of the photo below.  I used the Kaisercraft Stitched Circle dies for this.  I really love that the stitches are on the actual die cut circle and not on the negative piece left behind.  It finishes off the die cut nicely.  If you don’t have a manual die cut machine, pull out your paper punches or your Circuit machine and bring some older tools back to life!!  You can easily hand draw the stitches around your circle too 🙂

Keep on creating!!  XO
