It Takes Courage || Katie Kinnamon

Hi everyone!! I want to start this post by thanking you all for the love and support this month!  It’s been great to share with you all.  Today I wanted to create a layout with a bold title and no mixed media.  I couldn’t think of a better page to do that on than a page with these two dudes.  I found the quote one day on Pinterest and it stuck in my head.  My son is turning 13 next Saturday (my little groundhog), while his best friend turned 13 last Saturday and this quote really resonates with this transitional season of their lives.  All the products used on the layout will be listed at the end of the post.

I knew I wanted to use this line of products because of the inspirational quotes on the ephemera.  There were many ways I could have added mixed media, but I really liked the clean look for this layout.  I matted the photo and set it over to the right side of the page because the boys are laying towards the left.  I knew I wanted to use the “you’ll move mountains” quote so I set that next to the photo.  At that point I started to work on the title.

Rummaging through my alpha stash, I pulled out everything that coordinated with the papers.  Next I laid out the words on waxed paper, working out which words I wanted in which letters.  It took a little back and forth on the layout to decide how I wanted the words to move around the page.  It was a last minute switch to trade out the blue letters for white and place those words over top of the photo.

I wanted to use the Arrows Away wood veneers on this layout.  They are my favorite wood veneer in the shop and the first one I ordered.  However, I wanted more contrast than the wood color.  To paint the wood veneers easily, I put down a line of adhesive on my work surface and stuck the pieces to it.  The adhesive holds the veneers while you paint without having to fumble with them – especially handy with thinner pieces like these arrows.

The perfect finishing touch to add a little sparkle and add more color around was to add sequins.  As you’ve been able to tell, I really enjoy picking out colors from my sequin mixes that match whatever else I am using on my page.  Even just a few packages will lend itself to so many variations.  The mixes as they come are gorgeous, and the possibilities for using them in that way are endless.  Then, if you pull apart mixes and make new combinations, it can really extend your stash out to go with just about any project you make.  Make sure to use the discount code “Katie15” to get 15% off your order when you purchase your sequins!  Thank you again for the support this month! Thank you, Jody, for the opportunity to share my work with everyone as your first Spotlight Sparkler of 2019! Take care and have fun creating!!
