Tuesday’s Talent – Emoji Love!

Hello SMS fans!  My name is Melissa Renkawitz and I am thrilled to introduce myself as your guest designer for July.  I’ll be stopping by the blog every week this month for your installment of Tuesday’s Talent.

This week’s theme, EMOJI LOVE was perfect to document this ridiculous photo I had of my daughter and her best friend.  A few months ago they were having fun doing crazy makeup with one another via Facetime.  They posted a selfie on Instagram, and voila, me being the 21st Century mom I am, I snatched myself a screenshot!Gotta love technology!

For this layout, I started with a 12×12 piece of white textured cardstock and added a mixed media background with ink and water colors.  To the left side of the page, I selected 2 pieces of patterned paper from the Simple Stories “Emoji Love” collection and stitched them in place.  I also pulled the edges up a bit, for some added texture and dimension.

Alongside my photo, I added a few word bubbles which I fussy cut from the patterned paper.  Below the photo, I added my title using some foam Thickers.

For the finishing touch on this layout, I added a splash of interest with a scattering of metal brads (also from Simple Stories), some small chipboard stars and the SMS “Salt of the Earth” sequin mix.  I really love the combination of matte and iridescent colors in this mix!

I frequently add sequins to my projects in this simple scattered “confetti” approach, but I love the added interest of combining them with other textures like the chipboard and brads.  So fun!

Well… that’s about it!  I hope you enjoyed my first guest project.  I’ll be back next Tuesday with another!   Meanwhile, stop over to the SMS shop and check out the amazing products there!
