Shaker Cards|Tuesday’s Talent Amy Lee wraps up October

Hi SpiegelMom Scraps fans! Amy here today to share my last post in October. I’d like to end my guest designer series with two fun cards.

Here is the first card. This card’s focal point lies on the huge double shaker element. Double the shaker, double the fun, right?!

For the primary shaker, I used a happy birthday circle die from Simon Says Stamp. The large shaker is made using two nesting circle dies. I used some distress inks to blend rainbow colors on both die cuts. Aren’t they beautiful?

Moonshine sequins were added in the small shaker and some small clear droplets were added in the other one. I love the flair of the moonshine sequins! It’s like they are meant to be used in this big shaker element! To finish, I backed the whole shaker onto some pattern paper and rounded the corners for a playful look.

The second card involves a brand new technique I recently came up with, but before we get to that, let’s take a look at the card first.

This card is a faux shaker card. I made a frame and sealed the panel with an acetate sheet. Instead of putting sequins in the window, I adhered some glams and bits around the sentiment. Since the watercolor background is already quite busy, I don’t want to add too much onto it and distract from the sentiment. Wait! It doesn’t stop there. There are actually some more stars hidden in this card. You may asked where. Here’s how you can find them!

Bring this card against a strong light source e.g. the sun or a lamp. I just used my sunlight lamp which is always on my desk. There!!! Can you see all the hidden stars appearing?

The secret lies in a technique I’d called hidden embossing. I used a star stencil and some texture paste to emboss the back of the card. Since the paste is opaque, it blocks the light when you hold it against a lamp, but it looks like an ordinary card in the front.
