Lucky

Hey there!  It’s Laura Whitaker with you and I am super excited to be guesting here this month! Today I am sharing a layout that features a photo of my youngest son  and documents how he was born on St. Patrick’s day.  But I wanted to do it without doing an actual birthday page.

So I created a shamrock background cut file and pulled in some patterned papers with softer rainbow colours as well as some SpiegelMom Scraps Pandora’s Ombre sequins, Green Acres sequins, What’s Up Buttercup sequins which coordinate perfectly with my paper choices.

As a first step, I added some green distress ink through a wood grain stencil and some white texture paste through the same stencil to add a bit of interest to my base paper, prior to layering on the cut file.

Parts of the cut file were backed with patterned papers and some were backed with clear plastic so that I could insert sequins behind them.  On the layout I created for the March SpiegelMom Scraps blog hop, I shared how to make sequin shaker elements a design feature on a background.  For this page I wanted to do something similar but different, this page does not need dimensional adhesive to achieve the look.  You can see how to recreate this look by watching my process video, on my You-Tube channel.

I tucked this little wood veneer frame behind my photo making it another layer.  As an after thought I stitched words into it and I am so glad I did I love the look!  The frame is from the SpiegelMom Scraps shop.

I have had this large foam Thicker word in my stash for quite some time now, I am so glad that I was finally able to use it as it is perfect for this page!

I used some of the SpiegelMom Scraps “I Cork U” Hearts to create a shamrock that I layered over my title.  I love the way it looks and that I was able to use my goodies in a variety of ways!

I also used large cork hearts to create a larger shamrock, onto which I have layered a flair.

My third embellishment cluster also uses cork (I like the repetition) but this time in the form of a cloud shape. The cloud is from the SpiegelMom Scraps shop as well and is called “Corky Cumulus”.  A die cut sun, a fun flair and some more sequins round out the cluster nicely.  As a last step I added in some black rub ons (super old from my stash) I think they balance the black title out nicely.

As I mentioned, I have a process video for this layout,  you can watch it on my You-Tube channel here.
