How I Interpret a Sketch with Laura

Hi Folks, Laura here today.  As you know from my team mates we are teaming up with Let’s Get Sketchy this month.  I’m going to take you through my process of interpreting a scrapbook sketch – and I have to say our Sara aced it with this sketch!

The first thing I see when I look at this sketch is squares.  The second thing I notice is the diagonal spread across the page.  For me that was enough to spark this design.  You do not need to repeat every element of the sketch – although you can and that is perfectly okay.

All of the squares in the sketch are solid but I have used various transparent elements in vellum and acetate, and I’ve added in square outlines made from sequins.  I’ve also squished them up more than the sketch shows, overlapping them.  This is made more effective by layering the transparent materials over each other so you can see through multiple tiers to the mixed media background.

I have played fast and loose with the way the sketch suggests the photo.  This is perfectly OK – the sketch is there as a guide, as inspiration, and it sparked the creativity to start with.

SpiegelMom Scraps products used:  Falling Leaves Sequins, Autumn Joy Sequins, A Day In The Woods Sequins, Cork Die Cut Hearts, Shimmerz Spritz and Vibez.

I hope you’ve enjoyed your insight into my method of using sketches.  Let me know if this was helpful to you – I can walk through more of my sketch to layout processes in the future if you are interested?

Thanks for stopping by,

Laura
