Scrapbooking with Karla – Combining a Sketch and Scraplift!
Hi! It’s Karla back today with a sweet baby layout, using this week’s fun circle sketch (shown below) and using inspiration from the amazing Rachel Lowe, this month’s Guest Designer along with the beautiful new sequin mixes Birthdays & Balloons, Unicorns & Rainbows, and Dream Land! ! Usually when I scraplift I follow the other layout quite closely, but this month I thought I’d use elements from Rachel’s layout and incorporate it into the sketch. I really love the fun pinks and purples in her layout (directly below) as well as the adorable unicorn, rainbow, cupcake, flower and cloud images! I also used the stitching as inspiration – I’ve been really loving how stitching on a layout looks. Here’s a look at Rachel’s beautiful layout:
I started off by taking a pretty floral background paper and layering it with a piece of white cardstock. Then, I cut out my circles to coordinate with the sketch, using pieces of patterned paper as well as a couple photos from a day shortly after my third daughter was born and was home from the hospital. Both her sisters were so happy to hang out with her, and it’s so awesome to look back on these sweet photos now, almost 6 years later!
I stitched through the circles with my sewing machine and then layered on my stamped images. I used a sweet little unicorn digi stamp from Bugaboo Stamps, coloured wth Jane Davenport Magic Wand coloured pencils (how cool is that name?!!) and sat her on a Pretty Cute Stamps rainbow stamp watercoloured with ArtQuest watercolours and embossed (clouds) with Emerald Creek Soft Fallen Snow embossing powder. I love how glittery and puffy this embossing powder is, while still letting the base colour show through. I couldn’t resist adding a pretty blue flower from the Unicorns & Rainbows sequin mix in the adorable unicorn’s mane!
I added some chipboard stickers, regular stickers and a sticker title from several different sheets in my stash. I was really excited to find this cupcake sticker!
Next, I added some felt clouds cut with a Your Next Stamp stitched cloud die. I find that as long as I layer the felt along with a piece of cardstock it cuts beautifully! And, the best for last…. I used three of the amazing new release sequin mixes!!! Birthdays & Balloons, of course Unicorns & Rainbows, and Dream Land!
