Tuesday’s Talent – Inspired by Missy Whidden!
Hi everyone! It’s your July Guest Designer Melissa, back for for my final installment of Tuesday’s Talent!
This week, the SMS designers have been challenged with scraplifting one of the best- Missy Whidden. I’ve been a fan of Missy’s for a while now, so this was a fun challenge for me. I chose not to scraplift a specific layout, but rather to draw inspiration from a design feature I see Missy use frequently- a bold title, stitched in place, over a mixed media background.
I chose to change things up a bit, and try this feature on a Project Life layout and ended up making 4 cards (plus a bonus 5th with a little tweak). Here is the 1st card, which acts as a title for the week…
I started by creating a mixed media background with watercolors and a bit of ink splatter. Then I traced some alpha on patterned paper, hand cut them out and stitched them in place. I also added a few flowers (another Missy feature) and sequins. These sequins are from the “Salt of the Earth” and “Wild and Free” mixes
Here are the 2nd, 3rd and 4th cards, which utilize the same approach, in a smaller scale, paired with a 3×4 photo…
And finally, here is the 4th card. As promised- “with a twist.” Instead of using a paper title, I used an acrylic piece layered over the watercolor. I backed the open letters with patterned paper, for a completed card that looks like it belongs, but adds a spark of interest.
Before I leave you, I’ll share one final photo, which is the completed layout. I tried to spread these cards throughout the layout, so it was well balanced.
Stop over the SMS shop to check out some of the great mixed media products and sequins they have available, and try your hand at a Missy-inspired layout!
