Sweet Memories || Katie Kinnamon

Happy New Year everyone!  This is my first time on the Spiegel Mom Scraps blog, so allow me to introduce myself.  I am a mom of two great kids.  You’ll see them featured on most the pages I create.  I’m the wife of an amazingly supportive (i.e. enabling) husband.  We live in Michigan with two puppies (against my husbands wishes) and a crazy cat.  I started crafting and sewing at a very young age with my mom and that evolved into scrapbooking.  Jody is the reason I finally started sharing my work last year on Instagram (@catharticscrapper) and I’m grateful for her support.  Excited doesn’t begin to describe how I felt when she asked me to be the first Spotlight Sparkler for 2019.  I will be here every Saturday during January to share a layout with you all.  Without further ado, let’s get into the layout I created for today.  All the products used on the layout will be listed at the end of the post.

I started with a piece of white cardstock for my background and splattered numerous colors of Shimmerz paint mostly across the center.  I pulled the colors from the Maggie Holmes Willow Lane papers I was using.  I snuggled up on the couch one night to fussy cut out the butterflies, then layered them with either two or three layers.  I also trimmed the butterflies that came in the ephemera pack to add in.

I backed the photo with a few project life cards trimmed to size.  After I had those things figured out I started to play around with how I wanted the butterflies, title and photo – keeping in mind that I was going to have a rather large area of handwritten journaling.  Knowing my background was mostly white, I painted my title with two shimmerz paints that I had used on the background.

Happy with how things looked, I transposed the journaling onto the page that I had posted to my personal Instagram with this photo.  Afterwards I glued down the photo, butterflies and title, along with some embellishments under the photo.  The final touch was a mix of Spiegel Mom Scraps sequins that matched the layout.
