Stamping INTO Mixed Media Technique
Hi everyone! Jody here & I’m so excited to be back today for another guest post! I ssoooo love my Sparklers Design Team but I really miss blogging and creating more layouts on a regular basis. I think I need another “ME” so I can divide up some more of this small business behind the scenes stuff!! Anyone out there that can help with that LOL!!!
Anyway, today I’m sharing a technique I’ve haven’t done in awhile but I always LOVE the results. I began with this lovely green diagonal stripe paper from the Pink Pasilee Fancy Free Collection and this beautiful FREE cut file over at Hip Kit Scrapbook Club. You just sign up for a free member account and you’ll have access to their free files!! So awesome!!
Ok so, for this technique I spread some type of mixed media (gesso, texture paste, acrylic paints or Shimmerz Dazzlerz) onto an area of my layout and use a fun stamp to press right into the wet media (Dazzlerz, etc). This creates some awesome texture, or even a title. I used the Spun Sugar Dazzlerz and two different stamps, Amy Tangerine “Happy Place” and a small Stampin Up! stamp circle stamp. I also did a little bit of simple stitching on my layout to show the butterfly’s flight path 🙂
When the layout is angled more, the light really plays with the Shimmerz Paints Dazzlerz and creates this beautiful effect! It shines and reveals a really cool, almost hidden, phrase in the Dazzlerz.
You’ll also notice that there are sequins behind that stunning butterfly cut file from Hip Kit Club. To create this huge sequins shaker pocket I trimmed a piece of vellum & a piece of Fancy Free paper to the same shape as the butterfly. I carefully glued the vellum directly onto the backside of the cut file. After it was dry, I laid the butterfly with the front side facing down onto my workbench and spread some glue randomly over small areas of the vellum. The backside of the cut file/vellum wasn’t covered in glue, but there were several small areas of wet glue spaced out which where going to hold onto a bunch of loose sequins I was about to pour over my butterfly! After pouring my desired amount of a sequins onto the butterfly (Spring Blooms, Gold Stardust & Gold Sweatheart Sequins), I sealed up the huge butterfly shaker with the piece of Fancy Free paper and allowed it to dry completely before adhering it to my layout. I layered it up with those stunning black Thicker words from Amy Tangerine.
To add a little more interest to my fussy cut flowers and leaves, I folded the leaved down the middle and added few lines with a black Sharpe marker. I also added the date of the photo using the lines in the Fancy Free paper.
I finished the layout off with the Simple Stories alpha stickers from last summer, which I’ve been hoarding in my sticker stash! I just love love love those wood grain alphas!!
Thank you so much for spending your time here today! If you’re interested in any of the products used today, they are lined in the blog post. Be sure to find a Sparklers DT girl’s discount code here or on Instagram before you check out too!
See you next week!
