Maggie Holmes Flea Market + Gold Blog Share!
“Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver and the other gold…”
I’m so excited to be doing this blog share with EricaRose Creates and The Painted Crane today! I connected with these two ladies through Memory Works and instantly felt a special connection to them. Whenever I read a post from either one of them, I was inspired and uplifted in some way. I always walked away from the computer (or put down my iPhone) with a smile on my face, feeling refreshed, inspired and ready to create!
Gia at the Painted Crane brought us together for this blog share. Thank you again Gia!! We all fell totally in love with Maggie Holmes’s Crate Paper lines last year and her latest Flea Market sent me over the edge with excitement. Can you say sweet vintage charm with a hint of bling!? That’s Maggie!
Here are my projects to celebrate the sweet new friends I’ve made through this fantastic hobby and our undying love for Maggie Holmes and Crate Paper. First up, the layout from my sneak peak on Tuesday.
Now for some close ups! I love using negative spaces and paper punches to create more visual interest in my layouts! Here’s a prime example. See the little gold stars tucked inside the hearts punched in the paper… bingo! My wonderful Dad found a few bags of gold stars in the garbage and grabbed them for me. How sweet it that!!? I also adore all the Studio Calico Wood Veneers. They compliment any paper line or scrapbooking style perfectly. I used the Darling Dear Alphas on this layout. I attach all my wood veneers with Aileen’s Tacky Glue.. it works awesome!
And now for some dry embossing, inking and a little May Arts pink burlap string! I used three different embossing folders and a little Tim Holtz distress ink to make it pop a little.
On the other side of the layout, I wanted to balance out the gold that I added to the right side. To do this I added a piece of a Gold Foil Doily, scattered some Gold Sequins (available in Spiegelmom Scrap Shop on Etsy) and a punched heart from the opposite corner of the layout and a little word cut from one of the Maggie Holmes papers.
And now for layout #2…lots of gold and some copper too! You can see that I used white cardstock for my base and misted Mr. Huey’s across it. I layered a 10×10″ square of Maggie’s lovely paper and began tucking smaller papers around my photo. ** Layering tip~ add your adhesive towards the middle of your photos & papers to allow for adding additional elements as you build your layout!
I didn’t know if I’d like the photo overlays at first, but once I played with them I LOVED them! They add a little bit of a different look to the photo’s exposure and some are even framed like this gold one. And Maggie’s little bows are darling.. I almost didn’t want to put them on a layout. I’ll be getting some more to add to headbands for our girls later.
So now that you’ve seen how you can use all these lovely gold accents in the scrapbooking world, we hope you just got for it!! My Etsy Shop carries gold sequins and gold foil doilies as well as a variety of Studio Calico wood veneers, May Arts burlap strings, ribbons and more!
