Day 6 ~ 30 Days 30 Cards
It’s now day 6 and the card inspiration just keeps on coming! Here’s a fun sketch from the Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge Blog. This sketch has so many possibilities!
And now for my card. The products I used are:
~ Fancy Pants Merry Little Christmas 6×6″ pad
~ Maggie Holmes Gold Glitter Thickers
~ Red Burlap String (My Etsy Shop)
~ Gold Sequins (My Etsy Shop)
Here’s how I created my card and the little window. I started with a white card base from CTMH, which you can find HERE. I love these card bases and envelopes. They come already perfectly folded and the cardstock is wonderful to stamp on too! So first, I trimmed the Fancy Pants patterned paper to 4 1/8″ by 5 1/4″. Then I handcut two other coordinating papers from the same line and adhered them along the left side, which is the side closest to the center fold of the card. Then, I took one of my circle punches and punched right through the layers. This particular punch is a Fiskars Squeeze punch and I believe it’s a gear shape.
Next, I wrapped about 18 inches of May Arts red burlap string around that patterned paper piece and tied a bow along the left side, near my window. Then, I decided I wanted to make the window stand out more so I added some foam adhesive around the window on the backside of the patterned paper. After popping up that window I set this piece aside for a minute. I took a 2×2″ piece of red coordinating patterned paper and I added the number 25 with the Maggie Holmes gold glitter Thickers right on top of it. Next, I assembed these two pieces together. To do this I set the 2×2″ piece with the on top of my workbench, then pealed the backing off the foam adhesive from the larger piece with the window. I positioned the window piece over the one laying on the workbench and lined it up so the 25 was coming through the window. The foam adhesive is actually mounted to the smaller 2×2″ piece with the numbers on it. Then I mounted the combined element to the front of my white cardstock base. These Maggie Holmes gold glitter thickers are awesome and so very striking!! Since they really draw your attention, I felt this needed to be balanced out a bit. To do this I added a few random gold sequins from my Etsy Shop, SpiegelMom’s Scrap Shop on Etsy.com. I used Aileene’s Tacky Glue to adhere my sequins. I really works great to grab those sequins and hold them tightly to your project… plus it dries clear.
The Merry Christmas sentiment is CTMH.
Texture Tip: I use May Arts burlap string on my projects. It’s the perfect touch of texture without adding much bulk, which is perfect for card making! I used the Red Burlap String here. After tying my little bow, I trimmed the length a little bit and put a dap of tacky glue on the knot to keep it from coming undone. You could use any glue that dries clear for this step.
Here’s close up of the window!
Whew!! 6 days down, 24 to go!! Dont’ forget to check out more inspiration on the Memory Works Blog and link up your cards this month!!
