Improvising with mixed media
First let me say, I am super excited to be the April guest designer here at Spiegel Mom Scraps. My name is Tiffani and I love 12×12 scrapbooking. I have been crafting from as early as I can remember, but after going through a very difficult time, I decided it was so important to document life, not only for myself, but also for my three beautiful girls; Harmony (6), Melody (5) and Symphony (2). I want to create memories that they will have to share with their children and so on.
My favorite scrapbooking style has to be mixed media and there are a few artists I absolutely love, Wilna Furstenberg is one of them. I have watched her over the past year and finally purchased her most recent Spring Collection. So I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to take what I learned from her class and products from Spiegel Mom Scrap’s and let my creativity flow.
The picture is of my daughter helping me bake cookies. It is one of our favorite things to do and it was my favorite thing to do with my Nana.
I am all about improvising. You do not need to have to most expensive paints, inks, modeling pastes, etc. to create beautiful mix media layouts. I use the inexpensive acrylic paint from Michael’s and I look for deals and use coupons for the other mixed media supplies. It’s is all about working with what you have, because if you tell yourself you need to have this or that, you are blocking yourself from your own creativity.
I love the Bloom collection from Maggie Holmes, and that is where the flowers are from. The Thickers are from the Dear Lizzy Documentary collection. The pop of yellow just makes me think of spring and happiness. The Pink Lagoon sequins give that extra little touch of color.
I love the wood veneer hearts from Shimelle’s True Stories collection and it was completely coincidental that there were 3. Sometimes you will notice I gather things in three’s, especially hearts, and that is to signify each of my children.
A lot of people find it challenging to use the animals that come in the ephemera packs, but I absolutely love them. It is completely random and that is what makes it fun. You just never know where you will use them and for this layout the black swan from the Bloom collection was perfect! ย The & sign and the Beautiful wood veneer are also from Shimelles True Stories collection. This was also my first time using felt on a layout and I love Spiegel Mom’s pink heart felties!! They are so much fun and add that perfect pop of color. The Chunky Cork Hearts are also from Spiegel Mom’s and they just created that perfect balance. The stars are from the April sequins collection and I thought it was fun to add them on the outsides of the word beautiful.
This cut file was included with the spring collection from Wilna’s class. I love how versatile it can be.
I had so much fun making this layout and I hope you enjoyed reading along. Today I challenge you to dig deep into your inner creative self and explore the world of mixed media!!
