What About Wednesday: Pumpkin Soup
Aloha Sparklers!! I have been a little obsessed with documenting the autumn this year. I am pretty sure it is because of the newness that it is. After having spent 6 years in warm places, or mostly warm throughout the year, Autumn was not really noticeable. I would always look for things that reminded me of back home, but really it never felt like Autumn. So I am loving this weather for now, even though I know it may be a whole new story I am telling next year.
One of the things I love about this time of the year, especially if you live in a place where the season changes are very noticeable, is the food changes that come with the weather changes. Have I mentioned that I went to culinary school in college?! I love food, and how it brings my family together.
When it starts getting chilly, the best thing is a nice bowl of warm goodness. It helps heat your insides and makes you feel all comfy and cozy. One of my favorite things to make in the Autumn is Pumpkin Soup. In my mind it isn’t Autumn until I make Pumkpin Soup. (Even when I made this in Hawaii it still lacked that true feeling that the chilly weather brings to this soup.)
This every year tradition started when I was a teenager. My mom found this great soup, and now we just know it by heart. The best recipes are the ones that you have memorized because you make it so much . This is why I wanted to make this layout and what will be a new album. I want to have an album where I can put all these recipes and things that I love about this season of the year, the things that help make it cozy and warm. The things that we do every year, and could easily forget where those traditions come from if I don’t document it now.
I plan to include recipe and ephemera to this album to give it that homey feel. That old scrapbook feel. My hope is to add silhouette cut leaves, a shipping tag and a journaling card from Simple Stories Reset Girl Collection. Then sprinkle in some sequins (Falling Leaves Sequin mix) and it will be perfect.
I used some cork stars and a doily to help tie in the rustic look. The thread adds some texture amount my layers of cut leaves from scraps of old patterned paper. This apple wood button from Shimelle’s collection Go Now Go reminds me of the apple relish I put on my Pumpkin Soup.
These journaling cards add such a cool touch.
Here is a look at my first page about that perfect bowl of Pumpkin Soup.
I hope you look forward to seeing some more cozy themed layouts throughout this upcoming month. And Lots of sequins!!
