What about Wednesday: Christmas Card Making
Aloha My Scrappy Friends!! Christmas is almost here!! Are you ready?! I hope the holiday spirit is going strong in your lives.
This year instead of sending out remade cards (which is what I mostly have done) I decided I would make cards to send out to family and friends. I forgot just how slow I am at making cards. Honestly though it’s because I like a little bit of a special touch on each one. It has been fun though punching and citing out circles with stamped out holiday themed items.
I thought today I would inspire you today with a couple of the cards I made. I had been using a card I made last year as a template to help make the process faster. Though I will admit I have been switching it up on each card so I am not really sure it is way faster.
I used a few different Christmas colors as the back. I used the standard 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 size, I really like this size, because I can fold it two different ways for a different look.
Here is a look at what I made. (Then I will talk a little about what I did to make them special.)
I used a scallop punch for circles on alternating sides of the card. The holly berry paper is really subtle so it makes for a great back ground paper. It’s so festive too.
I won’t lie though, I struggled a little. Most of my stamps are holiday inspired but don’t overly scream Christmas. Look at that holly berry stamp. It fits perfectly in the inch circle punch. It felt a little superficial to me, so I paired it with this Christmas Tree cut file with the word Joy in it.
Joy is all what Christmas is about. I wanted to make sure what I am sending out to family and friends is a piece of that Joy.
I put the Joy tree on foam dimensional so it stands out. I really like the way the word Joy adds shadows on the background. I then added a green sequin from the Holly Berries sequin pack in the Spiegelmom Scraps Store.
Really Simple but super cute. I am really digging the green and aqua color combo in the Christmas lines.
Here is another card I made using that same first card as inspiration. Which another thing I wanted to mention. Don’t be afraid to use old cards you have made in the past as inspiration to help make cards. Using a great design over and over with different patterns and embellishments can really make it look like a different type of card.
For this card I only used one scalloped circle instead of two. I added an extra tree to help fill up some of the empty space. I also made sure the pattern in the scalloped circle matches the theme of the cut file trees (These tree cut files are from Hip Kit Club). I added some more foam dimension to the Joy tree.
I also added some foam dimension to the small holly berry stamped circle.
I made sure I added colored card stock bordering Noel. I wanted it to stand out against the red patterned paper. I put the Holly Berry sequins around the trees to make them stand out.
I love sending cards to people that I love and care about. I love spreading that Christmas Joy and Spirit. Which is why I love to take the time to make something homemade for others. I hope this inspires you to take some time out of your busy schedules to share your love to those you care about.
