Make It Yours Monday~Mothers Day 2016
And it’s Monday! And that means another Make It Yours Monday here on the SpiegelMom Scraps Blog!!! It’s week #2 of this months Swap Sketch with Let’s Get Sketchy. Be sure to go check out there blog to see what there team is doing with the Sketch as well! This week, we have another beautiful sketch from our very own Sarah to be inspired by! It’s a great sketch, with a lot of geometric squares going on.
The really cool thing about my project today is that EVERYTHING on it (except for my Thicker title) is from the SpiegelMom Scraps Shop!
For my layout, I chose a photo of me and my girls from this past Mothers Day, warm and snuggly in our backyard, taking some selfies, as we do every year! To start, I misted some Shimmerz Vibez in Razzledazzle Berry in a diagonal from the the top left to the bottom right on a piece of White American Crafts cardstock. I trimmed it down by a 1/2″ on 2 sides and mounted it on a piece of patterned paper from the Pink Paisley Fancy Free paper pad I picked up they were in the shop.
I used the paper with all the squares with the patterns from the collection to create my squares for the design. Some of them I left full size, some I cut in half, and the rest I cut into quarters. I inked all the edges with black soot distress in and made sure none of the patterns were next to each other. Then, lined them with my .01 precision pen, to give them a doodly boarder. When I was happy with the arrangement, I adhered them all down with my ATG.
I used the same blue paper from the boarder as a layer in my photo cluster, as well as a piece of gold hexagon vellum and then a piece of lovely teal patterned paper. I added some doilies in each corner after I misted them with some Snow Storm Vibez to give them some sparkle! I adhered the whole cluster to the upper right side, in the middle of the square cluster.
My title went under the bottom left corner, it fit perfect there!! I used the Bloom thickers, there is a great mix of Upper and lower case alpha’s in this set. My journaling went right under the title and really balanced out the corners.
The fun part came when it was time to add my embellishments! I took the new Classic Cozy sequin mix and used the lovely blues to compliment the colors in my photos and the papers I used. I added them around the paper squares, along with some Chunky cork hearts and Moonshine Delight sequins. I added a wood veneer tag from the Shimelle True Stories pack with the word Love and added some Gold Sweetheart confetti hearts to the tag and another Cork Heart!
This sketch was a bit outside my comfort zone, but it was fun to be challenged and I really love my layout! I gives me the warm, snuggly quilt feeling and that’s perfect for a layout about me and my girls!
I hope you will take a look at the shop and pick up some of the beautiful products I used here today and be sure to use LISA15 for 15% off all your SpiegelMom Scraps purchases!!!
