Beach Rainbow with Ali
Hello scrappy friends! I have to tell you guys, when the theme this month was first announced, I was nervous. I don’t know much about art, or being an artist. I like to create, but is it really the same thing? So I started looking for inspiration…and guess what? Ideas started flowing! I love being inspired by something new, and this was just the mojo kick I needed. As I was looking for paintings that inspired me, I found that something else happened, I started to become inspired by the styles and techniques, just as much as the finished work. Just like in scrapbooking, for me, sometimes it is more about the process. One technique that really stuck out to me is pointillism! I love the look of a bunch of small dots coming together to create an image. Then it dawned on me, I could do pointillism, but with sequins!! So I set off to create my masterpiece…I knew I wanted to do a layout about the gorgeous rainbow we saw at the beach. So I started trying to create a sequin rainbow, which I will not show you because it ended in disaster. My 6 year old’s response was “that looks crazy mama.” He has good judgement, so I scrapped that, or…um…I trashed it, and moved on. I decided to fully embrace the beach motif instead. I started with some corky hearts in the bottom corner and had a sequin wave crashing against them!I really love how this turned out. I used Pandora’s Ombre for the blues, and Wedding Bells for the white. I love how the Wedding Bells mix also has some little silver stars and different sizes, it really adds to the texture!
I knew that with such a huge statement on the page, I didn’t need to do much more than a title and some journaling…but let’s not forget about photos! So I took my photos and cut them into letters for my title-crazy right? I actually love how that came out. I used one photo of the rainbow and a few beach pics for my title. I backed them with some patterned paper from Pink Paislee Summer Lights. I also included another shot of the rainbow and some journaling about our trip! I few embellishments from Summer Lights and a sprinkle of the brand new (and stunning) Painted Gardens sequins and I called it quits…because frankly, this layout was a LOT of work! I am a fast scrapper, a layout usually takes me 30 minutes (typically broken into 3, 10 minute sittings!) but this took me a couple hours! Yikes! So worth it though!
Have you checked out all of the new release sequins? Jody and Lisa designed them, and oh my wow! They are sparkler-tastic! Also, the shop has a bunch of clearance items right now, and there may even be some cork left too!
