Hi everyone! Jody here & I’m so excited to be back today for another guest post! I ssoooo love my Sparklers Design Team but I really miss blogging and creating more layouts on a regular basis. I think I need another “ME” so I can divide up some more of this small business behind the scenes stuff!! Anyone out there that can help with that LOL!!!
Anyway, today I’m sharing a technique I’ve haven’t done in awhile but I always LOVE the results. I began with this lovely green diagonal stripe paper from the Pink Pasilee Fancy Free Collection and this beautiful FREE cut file over at Hip Kit Scrapbook Club. You just sign up for a free member account and you’ll have access to their free files!! So awesome!!
Ok so, for this technique I spread some type of mixed media (gesso, texture paste, acrylic paints or Shimmerz Dazzlerz) onto an area of my layout and use a fun stamp to press right into the wet media (Dazzlerz, etc). This creates some awesome texture, or even a title. I used the Spun Sugar Dazzlerz and two different stamps, Amy Tangerine “Happy Place” and a small Stampin Up! stamp circle stamp. I also did a little bit of simple stitching on my layout to show the butterfly’s flight path 🙂
When the layout is angled more, the light really plays with theShimmerz Paints Dazzlerz and creates this beautiful effect! It shines and reveals a really cool, almost hidden, phrase in the Dazzlerz.
You’ll also notice that there are sequins behind that stunning butterfly cut file from Hip Kit Club. To create this huge sequins shaker pocket I trimmed a piece of vellum & a piece of Fancy Free paper to the same shape as the butterfly. I carefully glued the vellum directly onto the backside of the cut file. After it was dry, I laid the butterfly with the front side facing down onto my workbench and spread some glue randomly over small areas of the vellum. The backside of the cut file/vellum wasn’t covered in glue, but there were several small areas of wet glue spaced out which where going to hold onto a bunch of loose sequins I was about to pour over my butterfly! After pouring my desired amount of a sequins onto the butterfly (Spring Blooms, Gold Stardust & Gold Sweatheart Sequins), I sealed up the huge butterfly shaker with the piece of Fancy Free paper and allowed it to dry completely before adhering it to my layout. I layered it up with those stunning black Thicker words from Amy Tangerine.
To add a little more interest to my fussy cut flowers and leaves, I folded the leaved down the middle and added few lines with a black Sharpe marker. I also added the date of the photo using the lines in the Fancy Free paper.
I finished the layout off with the Simple Stories alpha stickers from last summer, which I’ve been hoarding in my sticker stash! I just love love love those wood grain alphas!!
Thank you so much for spending your time here today! If you’re interested in any of the products used today, they are lined in the blog post. Be sure to find a Sparklers DT girl’s discount code here or on Instagram before you check out too!
Happy hump day all! Today I’m sharing a layout I’ve been working on in very short amounts of time over the last week or so. I’ve posted some works in progress photos of this on my personal Instagram account which you can check out HERE. I’ve been very intentional with my crafting and gone back to my “15 minutes to scrap” philosophy. It truly works for me! This means that I work on a layout or other project in very short amounts of time, usually between 10 and 20 minutes. Many of you know that I’m a busy mama of 5 AND work full time. That’s just plain chaotic at times! If you have a little space to dedicate to your crafting, try it out! Or, try setting up a card table in a corner of your living room and keeping some basic supplies out to work with. It’s worth a try!
For my layout, I used one of my favorite new lines… My Minds Eye, On Trend. I found these amazing My Minds Eye papers at an awesome local scrapbook and stamp store in a nearby town ~ Polka Dots and More! It’s been in business for about 10 years, but I never knew it existed! For shame!! It’s a fabulous shop with monthly specials and classes! You’ll find all your favorite scrapbook and stamping brands, plus a warm small business atmosphere! They also have a great YouTube Channel with lots of short and informative videos!
Here’s my layout. I started with a peachy colored sheet of cardstock that’s been in my stash FOR-EVER!! On it’s own, the cardstock color doesn’t appeal to me at all. But after I brushed some gesso over it and began to layer the On Trend, Stampin Up and Project Life products over it, I began to love it! I also heat embossing the word ‘love’ right onto the Project Life card to serve as my title. You can check out a close up and short video of that HEREon my SpiegelMom_Scraps Instagram account.
After brushing the cardstock with Gesso and letting it dry my cardstock was a little warped but that didn’t really bother me. I think it added more interest to my layout. I began adding layers of On Trend paper, a 5×7″ glassine bag, a Project Life 4×6″ card, Stampin Up vellum with gold dots, Amy Tangerine paper and some super cute tags from the Target Dollar Spot!
To finish off the layout, I added several of the On Trend Ephemera popped up with foam adhesive, some lovely lace and trim from Allison Kreft, gold resin roses from Maggie Holmes for Crate Paper and a Heidi Swapp stamp using my black Memento ink (above the gold number 2).
Thank you for spending your time with me today. I hope you’ve enjoyed my layout! I’ve also linked up the new challenged posted over at The Studio Challenges. One of my lovely Design Team gals, Kat Benjamin, is on their DT and I’ve been wanting to make time to participate in their awesome challenges for months now! Check them out! This month’s challenge is to use pink, black and gold. The pink here is more peachy, but I totally love this color combo! There’s also some hot pink in the tags from Target 🙂
I love this sketch for a few reasons. First of all, the title is right smack in the middle of the layout which I rarely do. Second, it splits to photo collages in opposite corners of the layout. This can be interpreted in so many ways: lots of layering, big or small photos, etc.
Here are some close-ups of my layout. You can easily see that I scattered a mixture of sequins from my Etsy Shop diagonally across my layout. I used the flat silver sequins from this mixed metals pack HERE and the Dark Aqua sequins. I conducted a little experiment this time. I usually go between using my Aileen’s Tacky Glue and Scrapbook Adhesives Dodz to stick my sequins onto my cards and layouts. This time I used both to compare them side by side. The flat silver sequins are adhered with tacky glue and the dark aqua sequins are adhered with my favorite Dodz (glue dots). So we’ll see how this page holds up to our daughter paging through our 2014 family scrapbook!
Check out the glitter filled Amy Tangerine heart in the photo below! I created this look by filling the inside of the foam heart with tacky glue, then carefully filling it in with a fabulous glitter from Stampin’Up!. After it dried, I shook out the excess glitter over a scrap piece of paper and put it back into the container. I think this particular glitter was discontinued awhile ago from Stampin’ Up!, but there are more beautiful glitters available now. If you’re interested, please check out my friend EricaRose’s Stampin Up! Page HERE. She’s just fantastic!
Thank so much for stopping by today! Remember, my Design Team Call is open through tomorrow night at midnight (CST). You can out more details about that HERE. I’d love to see what YOU create! Send your applications to me at SPIEGELMOM@GMAIL.COM!
