Hi there! Karla here today with a set of motivational cards to get you moving and excited about life! Since our theme here on the SMS blog this month is ‘Take Us Back June’ we’ve been thinking up lots of retro inspiration for you – and these cute workout animals from Pretty Cute Stamps wearing their adorable headbands totally brought me back to the ’20 Minute Workout’ videos of the 80’s! I’m pretty sure my sister and I wore our own headbands and bodysuits while we worked out in front of the TV 😉 I thought the sentiments included in the set were perfect to create a trio of cards that would be great to give to anyone who is working hard on something.
I recently found this fun retro paper pad at Michaels and thought the images would be awesome for this month’s theme! How cool is this cassette?! After I added layers of paper and some shiny washi tape on each card, I used a button and some of the wonderful Raspberry Burlap String from the SpiegelMom Scraps shop as well as a cork star from the Shooting Cork Stars package.
I stamped these cuties on watercolor paper and used some Mermaid Markers from Jane Davenport and Prima Watercolor Pencils to colour them in while the kids were playing in the park. I had so much fun creating these, and I hope whoever receives them will feel like they can accomplish whatever they want!
Here’s a look at the inside of each card and the fun and motivational message that coordinates with the front! Of course I had to add some gorgeous sequins inside too!
I love working with sketches. Sometimes I go off on a tangent and the finished layout looks nothing like the sketch, other times I use the sketch very literally. This was a literal copy up to a point…
I got my ruler out and did a little maths to get my patterned paper sections exact. I cut duplicate pieces in vellum so I could layer up with foam pads for added dimension and shadows. They are very subtle layers but, I think, well worth it.
I stuck my glitter spot acetate down with 3d glue gel for even more dimension. I only used the glue behind the glitter and one spot I knew I would be adding an embellishment.
When I had finished my literal copy I felt the bottom needed something extra so added some bunting. I used some yellow baker’s twine to anchor my pennants.
When it came to embellishing I added some Salt of the Earth sequins and Shooting Cork Stars. These stars are quickly becoming a favourite of mine. They are small enough to add to most layouts without overtaking but still adding the gorgeous cork texture and colour. They are also easy to alter with gesso or paint if you fancy the texture but not the colour!
