What About Wednesday: Shaker Layout

13932877_10210738580967273_2143640393516853298_n

Aloha!! It’s Hannah here with you this fine Wednesday. Can you believe this is our last sketch with Let’s Get Sketchy and our team up with them. I have had tons of fun seeing their layouts and all of our’s. Don’t forget to hop over to their blog and check out their sketches when you need some inspiration.

I have to make a confession. I hope you won’t tell!! I have never made a shaker card before. I know it’s crazy isn’t it?! They are so cool and seem really easy to make. Plus who wouldn’t want to use tons of sequins at one time.

In all honesty I have never made a shaker card even though I keep thinking I really should. When I was looking at this week’s sketch the first thing that popped in my head was, this would be really cool as a shaker. Here is the sketch for this week designed by Let’s Get Sketchy Brenshevia.

img_0151

I started out with white card stock from the SpiegelMom Scraps Store, I used two sheets. I cut a big circle out of one of the white sheets. I thought the white would help whatever sequin mix I decided to use, pop.

I also grabbed a sheet of heart acetate so that it was easy to see the sequins.

img_1035

Because I was using the circle for the shaker, I moved the circle a little to the left. I wanted more card stock on one side for the layering. I also decided to use just one photo that was horizontal and a journaling card instead of two photos. This left a little more open space. If you spend the time to make a shaker you want to see it, right?!

img_1034

The photo I picked was of my son, me and our puppy on the couch, with my puppy taken up most of the photo. (This is a common occurrence when we are on the couch.) I wanted to make make I documented it before she (our puppy) is too big for the couch at all.

img_1038

There was a lot of orange in the photo. Which inspired my sequin choice, 2 Cool 4 U.

img_1033

For the layers I choose colors that complimented the sequin mix, blacks, grays, light blue and yellow. With the white background it really helps brings your eye to the shaker. I used double-sided dimensional foam tape to pop up the circled card stock with the acetate paper. I made sure I used extra sticky tape, and liquid glue on top of the acetate so my layered paper doesn’t come off over time.

I love how the edges lift off the acetate though. Some texture always makes me happy, and I love the shadows that it creates.

img_1040

I used feltie hearts in gray and blue around the shaker. I really wanted to draw your eye around the photo and shaker. I added a few sequins from the 2 Cool 4 U mix that I used inside.

I added a bit a sparkle with my title to bring out the tiny little silver stars in the sequin mix.

img_1032

Look at how those colors pop right off of the white?!!

img_1036

I am really glad I finally took that step and made a shaker, and on a layout too!! It is so much fun, and it was actually really easy!!

Here is a look at the full layout.

What About Wednesday: Changing a Sketch

13932877_10210738580967273_2143640393516853298_n

Aloha!! I don’t know about you but I am very much enjoying all the layouts this month with our Team Up with Let’s Get Sketchy. It is so fun seeing everyone’s take on the same sketches throughout the week. I really liked using this sketch this week.
week-3

I love the concept of this sketch. It was designed by Brenshevia, from Let’s Get Sketchy.  It uses strips of paper under the photo. I like to do this often. It’s a great way to use up smaller scraps that I have in my stash.

img_0876

I did have to make one switch to this sketch. Which is what I wanted to discuss a little today. Changing a sketch to fit our design needs.

I have two photos that I wanted to use for this layout. I am still working on my Autumn cozy themed photos. I did, however decide to keep this layout a 12×12 instead of the 8 1/2x 11 that I have been doing though out this past month.

cup-of-liquid-pumpkin

By adding a second photo it does change the flow design in the sketch. It leaves much less white space. When you adapt a sketch to fit our needs, you do want to think of whether these changes will work with the concept of the sketch and still function for you.

Does this change effect how you are telling the story that is on your page?  I seriously think these types of questions really are different for each and every scrapper.  Sometimes it is fine to change up a sketch, like I did. Sometimes it may not work. If I had wanted to journal more about  my love for Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Lattes or other seasonal Starbucks drinks I probably wouldn’t want to add a second photo.

img_0869

Because I used two photos I also needed more strips of paper under the photos. I wanted to use more Silhouette Cut leaves, since many of my cozy layouts have leaves on them. This proved to be difficult. I ultimately decided to use them in two spots. On the right side of my strips and photo and down near the bottom of the photos where the end of my Title would be.

img_0913

Even though there isn’t spots for big cluster embellishments on the sketch, I really wanted them, because it is part of my style. I layered leaves with stickers, a rubber tag, gold thread, cork stars and sequins. I love all the texture ll these different elements add to the layers.

img_0921

I did the same thing with my bottom clusters as well. I added some Thickers on the leaf cluster to draw your eye right there. There are some extra enamel dots among the cork stars and Sequins (I used Autumn Joy and Razzleberry mixes). I loved the sentiment on ephemera piece from the Maggie Holmes Gather collection.

img_0915

The rest of the title I placed on the top of the photos. (This was one of the things I changed.) I thought it helped tie the top left hand cluster to the rest of the layout. Especially since it all was connected somehow.

img_0874

I used bigger fonts for the words that I really wanted focus on. Having them gold is just a plus too.

img_0918

I also added a couple of strips that I ripped to put in the cluster. I like the way that ties with all the strips under the photos. Adding bits with gold and a sticker leaf, helps coordinate with the other clusters.

img_0916
Whenever I change up a sketch I always try to keep the integrity of the sketch. Also making the sketch me is important to me as a scrapbooker. Not everyone needs or wants to do that. That is the awesome thing about scrapbooking and using sketches. We have the freedom to change them to fit our needs or just use as is. img_0919

I hope you are sharing on Social Media how you are using these sketches!! Tag us @LGSketchy and @SpiegelMomScraps. Seeing your work helps inspire us too!! Also don’t forget to head over to our Facebook Group and join in our monthly challenge. (This month the challenge is to use a big Title)

Here is one last look at my finished layout. I hope it inspires you to change up a sketch you are using!!

Sketchin’ with Megan

Hello SMS fans!! This is Megan and I am back today with another sketch made by Sara for this weeks team up with :et’s Get Sketchy. I had a lot of fun with this sketch. I tried to play outside the box a little bit and took an idea I saw from my fellow design team member, Laura. I loved how she used the sequins to make little boxes to mimic the sketch so I took that idea and made it my own along with the sketch.

14993434_10154699945692392_2058722186215464406_n

This is the sketch that Sara made and below is my take on it:

smssketch2-1footer

I had these 3 cute photos of 2 of my boys when they were younger and we were playing a video game together.

smssketch2-2

I kept this layout very simple and only embellished a little bit with the Hot Right Now sequins, chunky stars and a doily.

smssketch2-3

I used some papers from the Pink Paislee ‘Fancy Free’ collection. I really like the way the look with the sequins I used.

smssketch2-4

The title I made with Shimelle’s ‘Fitzgeral’ teal alpha and We R Memory Keepers ‘Honey I’m Home’ little sticker alpha’s.

smssketch2-5

smssketch2-6

I also used some Coloringz Spray Mist by Shimmerz Paints called ‘No Yolking’ and Mint Heidi Shine.

I hope you enjoyed seeing my take on the sketch this week! Tomorrow we will have a new sketch in this fun swap we’re doing this month. Make sure to check out the Let’s Get Sketchy blog and come back here as well to get the new sketch!

Gather-LGS + SMS Team Up Wk 2!

I’m loving all the projects that have come out of our sketch swap with Let’s Get Sketchy!  They most certainly challenge me. When I’m not thinking it up in my own brain it feels more difficult.

14993434_10154699945692392_2058722186215464406_n

I started with a hot pink Basic Grey paper. I love how it brings out the pink in that bouquet of flowers. I dripped some Vibez in Blushing Bride to add some interest to the paper. I opted to create my focal point with four 3 x 3 pieces, one picture and 3 squares of patterned paper. I made sure those squares coordinated without being too busy – I hoped to avoid that as best I could with this page. #SpiegelmomScraps #sequins #LGSketchy #shimmerzpaints #cratepaper #scrapbooking #memorykeeping #papercrafting #lawnfawn #sketchchallenge @wordsandpaperscraps @LGsketchy @shimmerzpaintsI cut square and rectangular scraps from various pieces of paper, mostly from the “Gather” collection by Maggie Holmes for Crate Paper & paired it with some ephemera from Pink Paislee  “C’est La Vie.” The vellum came from my stash. I cut out everything before I adhered anything down. It was so important to play around with placement in order to get the balance correct#SpiegelmomScraps #sequins #LGSketchy #shimmerzpaints #cratepaper #scrapbooking #memorykeeping #papercrafting #lawnfawn #sketchchallenge @wordsandpaperscraps @LGsketchy @shimmerzpaintsI wanted to incorporate some peachy-orange into my page and so I used some Dazzlers in Coral Me Crazy on a paper scrap. Once I knew where I wanted all my pieces, I adhered them down. I added some stitching to a few pieces to create dimension. I put pop dots on the backs of my 4 center pieces to ensure they stuck out well. I then layered that chipboard word, also from the Gather collection, on top. #SpiegelmomScraps #sequins #LGSketchy #shimmerzpaints #cratepaper #scrapbooking #memorykeeping #papercrafting #lawnfawn #sketchchallenge @wordsandpaperscraps @LGsketchy @shimmerzpaintsTo finish off my page, I added sequins from the shop, a few plus sign chipboard pieces, and puffy gold pieces by Lawn Fawn. Those little phrases are some of my favorite embellishments ever. Occasionally, Crate Paper comes out with new ones and I absolutely adore them!#SpiegelmomScraps #sequins #LGSketchy #shimmerzpaints #cratepaper #scrapbooking #memorykeeping #papercrafting #lawnfawn #sketchchallenge @wordsandpaperscraps @LGsketchy @shimmerzpaints

I love how this page turned out! For some reason, it seems almost like it’s a little “burnt” around the edges. I hope you’ll play along with some sketch challenges, we’ve got 2 more this month!

LET’S GET SKETCHY TEAM UP! SO GOOD!

Hello hello everyone and welcome to the Spiegelmom Scraps blog!  Staying warm and cozy is one of the best things to do during the winter cold months.  Food plays even a bigger part of being warm and cozy and some people even call this time of year the season for comfort food.  Well since I have been trying my best to stay on a proper diet, I am finding salads to be my comfort food believe it or not, Lol!

Here is the sketch that was created by Sara Scraps and I just love this one! Also be sure to check out the LGS (Let’s Get Sketchy) blog, where they will be using the same sketch!

So here is a layout of my new found comfort food!  Salomon salad with a almond flavored vinagerette salad dressing.  It was SO GOOD!

img_3731

This was so fun to create and I used my favorite embellishment!  Sequins!  Yes these are new sequins called 2 Cool 4 U by the Spiegelmom Scraps.  I used them to add more interest to the layout.  Here is a closer look.

img_3727

I also used the Felicia Jane kit for October called Emeline that is where the wood grain hearts came from along with all the papers and puffy stickers.

img_3725

I just love the combination of the puffy stickers and sequins, they just give this layout such character.

img_3730-1

Take a look at those puffy alphas!  They work out perfectly for the title of this layout.

Enjoy Life – Let’s Get Sketchy + SMS Team Up!

Hello!

Today I get to share my interpretation of this week’s sketch! You may have heard, we at SpiegelMom Scraps have teamed up with our friends over at Let’s Get Sketchy for the month of November. You can visit their site for the sketch or check it out here in the 15 minutes 2 Scrap Facebook group.#SpiegelMomScraps #exclusivesequins #lgsketchy #scrapbookingsketches #letsgetsketchy #scrapbooking #shimmerz #shimmerzpaints @shimmerzpaints @spiegelmom_scraps @wordsandpaperscraps @lgsketchyThe fun sketch Sara designed included butterflies and no matter how hard I try, I can’t figure out how to incorporate butterflies into my projects. Ugh! Strangely, I think it’s because I don’t have kids yet. So in place of those I’ve included some heart punches. My whole post was inspired by the gorgeous new sequin mix in the shop: 2 Cool 4 U. I absolutely love this mix! #SpiegelMomScraps #exclusivesequins #lgsketchy #scrapbookingsketches #letsgetsketchy #scrapbooking #shimmerz #shimmerzpaints @shimmerzpaints @spiegelmom_scraps @wordsandpaperscraps @lgsketchyAnd while many of the mixes in the shop coordinate well with popular lines – I’m on a crafting budget, so I’ve chosen to use some papers from my stash. I stitched my punched hearts onto some paper from the Dear Lizzy Saturday collection, backed against white cardstock. I then splattered some Shimmerz Vibez in Egg Noggin’ for a little shine. I layered this picture of my sweet German Shepherd onto some vellum and gold-foil polka dotted paper.

That triangle shaped shaker pocket full of sequins found its place stitched on the corner of my patterned paper. To make this: I first trimmed an extra page protector scrap into my desired triangle shape. I then used my Fuse Tool to seal the sequins in.

I used a few pieces of wood veneer on my page including a mini clothespin, We R Memory Keepers “Honey I’m Home” title piece, and a heart from my stash. #SpiegelMomScraps #exclusivesequins #lgsketchy #scrapbookingsketches #papercrafting #letsgetsketchy #scrapbooking #shimmerz #shimmerzpaints @shimmerzpaints @spiegelmom_scraps @wordsandpaperscraps @lgsketchyTo finish off my page I included a cloud feltie from the shop, and a brad from the Simple Stories “Posh” collection. I added my journaling and then I was done! Stay tuned this month for a new sketch every week!

What about Wednesday: Sara Scraps Sketch Team Up with Let’s Get Sketchy

13932877_10210738580967273_2143640393516853298_n

Aloha!!  This month is super fun as we share sketches with the Let’s Get Sketchy design team throughout November.  We are using a new sketch each week. This week’s sketch was designed by Sara, from our design team. Here is a look at that sketch.

14470594_10211213330675719_7501770718929578944_n

There is tons of room for layering and a way to add some fun layering with the butterfly element and something shiny. I was excited to give this sketch a try.

I decided to make a 8 1/2 x 11 spread, since that is what I am working on in my cozy album. I was excited to try to convert this sketch to the size I was scrapbooking in. That is the fun thing about sketches, adding your own twists to them.

I started out with plain white cardstock, from the SpiegelMom Scraps store. Except for the matte behind my photo and a few leaves on my layout I went used Shimelle’s collection Go Now Go. I knew it would be perfect for this travel and fall themed layout.

This layout is about my tradition of watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thanksgiving while we get ready for our meal later in the day. We sit with our coffee and baked goodies, usually something like home cooked cinnamon rolls or french toast that was made ahead of time the night before and baked in the oven. We get comfy on the couch and watch the balloons floating down New York City’s streets as My Mom got the turkey and fixing prepped and ready to get baked and prepared for the day.

One year after I was married my parents saved up to go down to New York City to see the parade in person. The photo I am using is from that trip. I thought it was a fun way to tell about this cozy holiday tradition we have.

img_0751

Because this layout is going in my cozy album I will be adding a tag, a doily and leaves on this layout. I am trying to have a similar theme throughout this album. Plus it’s a fun way to tie all the layouts together.

img_0745I used a Shimelle small red doily, a smaller tag from the Shimelle ephemera pack. I used Silhouette cut leaves, that I used patterns from my stash of older papers. These are random patterns that I thought would work on a various of autumn and holiday themed layouts.

img_0747

Instead of butterflies like on the sketch, I went with circles. One of the Shimelle papers had different sizes and colors, I picked out the ones I thought most fit my layout. I only had a small space to add them, but I like how they look like they are going under my photo. I only added my sequins so they were going over top of the circled rows. I tried to match the color of sequin to the color of the paper under neath it. I am using the new sequin mix, Cozy in this layout. It matches the blues and reds in the Shimelle collection. I mix in some Grey Feltie hearts to the line of sequins for some fun.

img_0746

I used leaves as my layering elements on the top and bottom of the photo. I also used a 4×6 photo instead of a square photo. I wanted to be able to see the whole street behind my mom and Mini Mouse. The streets of New York City as so marvelous especially this time of the year, it would be a same to cut that out. In my layers I added some Feltie hearts from the store. I like the texture element they add.

img_0749

I had a pretty large title, when using such a small canvas such as this layout, was the hardest part of this layout. I decided to stray a little from the sketch to add the second half of the title down under the photo as well. Having both parts of the title start or finish with the embellishment cluster I feel really ties that altogether. That taxi is so cute down in the bottom cluster too, isn’t it?!

img_0744

I also added a journaling ticket under the title to fill that space. It also allowed me to add extra journaling that didn’t necessarily go with the main journaling section.

img_0750

I hope you stick around all month and see all the sketches that are getting revealed for our Team Up with Let’s Get Sketchy!! There is going to be so much inspiration this month, just what we need for this busy time of the year!

Here is a final look at my layout.
