Hand Stitching

I have always wanted to hand stitch a layout. I love the work that both Paige Evans and Caroline Free do. I will say though, it takes a toll on the hands. So what better final project to do for Spiegel Moms as a guest designer, than a hand stitched one.

I stitched these flowers over a course of 3 days. The image comes from theeastwind on etsy. I saw her stamp and wanted to create something different with it. I love the doilies which you can find here in the shop.

In my first layout, I mentioned heavy body acrylic. I finally picked some up and I am in love. I made these butterflies with the acrylic and some purple ink. The glass slipper sequins fit so perfect for this layout.

I never thought I would use these wood circles from Amy Tan, but I finally did. I love the meaning behind their placement for me. In this image it is a part of my family tree. Three generations. The butterflies signify my nana as well as her favorite color. I miss her dearly.

Ok, if you have been wanting the Tim Holtz Distress crayons, I highly recommend them. Just make sure you prep your page with gesso. I first tried this without gesso and they just do not work well. They are so creamy and I love the vibrant colors.

I truly enjoyed being a part of Spiegel Mom’s and thank you so much Jody for having me. Be sure you guys join them for National Scrapbook Day, I will be hosting a challenge and can’t wait to see what you create. Happy Scrapping!!!!!

Happy Birthday Melody

My sweet Melody turned the big 5 on April 5th and we celebrated her big day this past weekend. Sadly she had been quite ill over the weekend, but is now on the mend. Dealing with 3 little ones that ended up all sick was quite hard for my creative side, so I did not end up with a process video for this layout.

2016-04-12 10.28.44 1-1

I have a deep passion for black and white photography. Out of all of my girls, Melody just has this presence about her in her images that screams black and white. My husband and I have always been able to capture the most candid shots of her and I love it.

I used some of the cut outs from my previous layout here and colored over them with a pink gelato stick. I like the dark outline it left.

I just adore these felt clouds from the shop! I have a serious cloud obsession, and adding these to my layout just brings out something personal for me. If I can find a way to incorporate clouds, I will.

20160412_222421My favorite part about layering like this, is tucking things under each layer. The possibilities are endless. I wasn’t sure what I would use these heart for and then once I started this layout I found the perfect spot.

20160412_222323 Thank you so much for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed my layout 🙂

Best Wishes ~ Tiffani xx

Improvising with mixed media

First let me say, I am super excited to be the April guest designer here at Spiegel Mom Scraps. My name is Tiffani and I love 12×12 scrapbooking. I have been crafting from as early as I can remember, but after going through a very difficult time, I decided it was so important to document life, not only for myself, but also for my three beautiful girls; Harmony (6), Melody (5) and Symphony (2). I want to create memories that they will have to share with their children and so on.

My favorite scrapbooking style has to be mixed media and there are a few artists I absolutely love, Wilna Furstenberg is one of them. I have watched her over the past year and finally purchased her most recent Spring Collection. So I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to take what I learned from her class and products from Spiegel Mom Scrap’s and let my creativity flow.

The picture is of my daughter helping me bake cookies. It is one of our favorite things to do and it was my favorite thing to do with my Nana.

I am all about improvising. You do not need to have to most expensive paints, inks, modeling pastes, etc. to create beautiful mix media layouts. I use the inexpensive acrylic paint from Michael’s and I look for deals and use coupons for the other mixed media supplies. It’s is all about working with what you have, because if you tell yourself you need to have this or that, you are blocking yourself from your own creativity.

I love the Bloom collection from Maggie Holmes, and that is where the flowers are from. The Thickers are from the Dear Lizzy Documentary collection. The pop of yellow just makes me think of spring and happiness. The Pink Lagoon sequins give that extra little touch of color.

I love the wood veneer hearts from Shimelle’s True Stories collection and it was completely coincidental that there were 3. Sometimes you will notice I gather things in three’s, especially hearts, and that is to signify each of my children.

A lot of people find it challenging to use the animals that come in the ephemera packs, but I absolutely love them. It is completely random and that is what makes it fun. You just never know where you will use them and for this layout the black swan from the Bloom collection was perfect!  The & sign and the Beautiful wood veneer are also from Shimelles True Stories collection. This was also my first time using felt on a layout and I love Spiegel Mom’s pink heart felties!! They are so much fun and add that perfect pop of color. The Chunky Cork Hearts are also from Spiegel Mom’s and they just created that perfect balance. The stars are from the April sequins collection and I thought it was fun to add them on the outsides of the word beautiful.

This cut file was included with the spring collection from Wilna’s class. I love how versatile it can be.

I had so much fun making this layout and I hope you enjoyed reading along. Today I challenge you to dig deep into your inner creative self and explore the world of mixed media!!

Hello Friend Tag

Hello SpiegelMom Scraps Fans! It’s Ka here today with a cute tag to share. I wanted to make a gift tag to put on a gift box for a sweet friend. The wrapping paper on the gift box is a pastel yellow, so I decided to turn the white shipping tag into a purple tag by blending Dusty Concord distress ink all over it.

Next, I spread some Tutti Frutti Dazzlerz Texture Paste on top of the tag using a sun ray stencil from MFT. To ground the cat, I cut a pretty Yellow Chevron Twill Ribbon and adhered it to the bottom of the tag. The cat is from Mama Elephant Three Amigos stamp set. I colored the cat with gray Copic Markers and used the coordinating dies to die-cut him out. He was popped up with foam dimensional adhesives squares. Lastly, I tied a yellow baker’s twine around a mini clothespin and clipped it to the top of the tag and called it done! 🙂

I had so much fun making this adorable tag and I hope you were inspired! I also wanted to mention that this will be my last post while serving on the Sparklers design team! Some of you might remember that I started a papercrafting challenge a few months ago and have realized that it really does require a lot of my time and energy. So, I have decided I have to step down from the design team. I have had a fantastic time and look forward to all of the upcoming projects from the other design team members and from Jody, herself! Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day!

Bonjour Tag

Ka here …. Hope you’re having a great week! Today I’m here to share a sweet note tag using one of my favorite food stamp – macarons. I love macarons A WHOLE LOT that every year I am given a dozen of them on my birthday from my darling husband. 🙂  This macaron stamp image is part of the set called Bonjour from Avery Elle. I stamped them in three different ink colors and fussy cut them out. I combined them with some of my favorite products from SpiegelMom ScrapsSpring Bloom Sequins Mix, Pink Lagoon Sequins Mix, white doilies, small glassine bags and a white shipping tag. I plan on hanging this sweet tag on a birthday gift bag that I am giving my friend on her birthday.

I hope you enjoy today’s project from me. Thanks so much for stopping by…

Felt Feathers Cards

Felt Feathers

Hello SpiegelMom Scraps Fans! Ka here today to share two simple cards using the Birds of a Feather Felties!

Felt Feathers 1

I wanted these felt feathers to be the star in these cards, so I used only minimal supplies. The sentiments are from Mama Elephant Fair Feathers, which I heat-embossed in gold on acetate film. I blended Tumbled Glass distress ink behind the feathers to create a halo for visual interest.

Felt Feathers 2

I had so much fun creating these two cards and playing with the pretty feathers! You can pretty much use these feathers on anything, so make sure you go grab yours right now at the SpiegelMom Scraps Shop before they are sold out! Here I used the Pink and Aqua feathers, but any color will work. Well, I hope you enjoy today’s dose of inspiration!
