Fun with Hexagon Shaker Pockets | Iris Fox
Hello friends, Iris here to share some fun I had making an insert with shaker pockets for my December Daily, and another as a Traveler’s Notebook charm. It’s all about the hexies and the Hexa-a-Frost sequin mix!
December Daily:
I started off with this amazing free cut file by Amy Jo Vanden brink from Paper and Spool. I chose to use the 3×8 version. In the Silhouette software, I duplicated and flipped it so that I could have mirror imaged pages to sandwich shaker pockets between. I cut it out of a corduroy Bazzil white cardstock, which is one of my favorite textured cardstocks.
For my shaker pockets, I used one of the cut-out hexagons as a template to to fuse two hexagon pockets and one half hexagon pockets from an old page protector. One Hexagon has the complete sequin mix. The half hexagon has the turquoise shades plus the hexagons. And for the last one, I separated out the silver hexagon sequins, and lined that shaker with the aqua knit patterned paper so that they would pop. These I adhered randomly behind openings that were spread out.
The rest of the openings I lined with papers from last year’s Pinkfresh Studio Oh Joy 6×6 paper pad. There was one other hexagon that I lined with an old striped acetate piece and added an acrylic star. Then I embellished with a few Felicity Jane rubber pieces and a couple Pinfresh Stuido acrylics. I finished it all off with a black hand stitched border around one hexagon, and white machine stitching to hold down the hexagon flaps.
Traveler’s Notebook:
I bought a pack of necklace extenders and extra jump rings at Michaels to make my Traveler’s notebook charm. I made another hexagon shaker, punched a hole at one point using my Crop-a-Dile, and using pliers I looped one of the necklace extender jump rings to it. I strung two felt balls together and sewed them onto the jump ring of another necklace extender. And for the 3rd charm, I stuck two Colorcast Designs wood circle pieces together back to back, punched a hole through them with my Crop-a-Dile, and added them to the 3rd extender. Then I cut the chain lengths with a wire cutter and strung them all together onto one clasp.
I just love how the charms dangle, and they can be attached to either the spine of the TN or the elastic closure. Very versatile, and it was so easy to make my own custom charm with sequins and scrappy supplies.
