Tea Party with Ali
Hey y’all, Ali here! As you may have noticed, the Sparklers are all scraplifting Missy Whidden this week! I had so much fun with the last one I made that I was so excited to try again. Seriously, Missy’s layouts are so hard to replicate but they are filled with so much inspiration! I really loved this original (obviously, I pretty much love everything she does!).
Just like last week, I really wanted to take the “bones” of the layout and make it my own! This layout is really near and dear to my heart. I have been wanting to start scrapping my own childhood and this photo of my great grandmother and myself having a tea party has been at the top of my list. Do you ever have photos you are almost afraid to scrapbook? I really wanted to do it justice, so I have been putting it off for a long time. When I saw Missy’s layout I knew this would be a great starting point for this treasured photo.
I started with a combination of older lines, Fancy Free and Open Book. I really love the pale pink and coral colors with a pop of bright colors here and there. Plus the spine of the “book” in that Maggie Holmes paper was too perfect not to (finally) utilize! When I was finished placing my patterned papers I added the stitching and then got to work fussy cutting some florals! I went light with the mixed media, simply scraping some gorgeous Peach Fuzz Paste-eez through a star stencil. I finished it of with a sprinkling of Pink Parade, this sequin mix is so fun and pretty it makes me squeal a little bit (but not too loud because I typically scrap when my kids are asleep!).
I think this layout really captures this sweet moment, and it makes me smile to know it is documented.
Here is a little close up of those fabulous sequins and that gorgeous paste-eez. I am going to be really transparent for a second…mixed media scares me. Every.Single.Time. Sometimes I make backgrounds and I throw them away because they are terrible. I haven’t had a lot of experience with texture paste and what not, because as I mentioned before…it SCARES ME! So, I put that aside to give the paste-eez a try and WHOA! This stuff is so easy to use, the colors are fantastic, and I love love love the added dimension and interest just a little bit can add to a layout! So fun! And totally not scary (anymore!).
I hope you all had a fabulous weekend, if you are Sunday shopping…that is my favorite day to shop…be sure to save some money!
