What About Wednesday: Felicia’s Old and New Challenge
Aloha!! It’s Hannah here. This week I thought I would take on Felicia’s Old and New challenge. Let me refresh your memory if you don’t remember the details of the challenge. “The first step is to use and old and new scrapbooking product on your Layout. Explain on your layout what is old and what is new. The second step it is to use and old and new photo on the layout.”
I only started scrapping in 2014 so I definitely don’t have supplies that are ten years old or anything but I definitely have my share of older products. Like a pile of paper stacks that I bought when I first started scrapbooking. I couldn’t believe that you could get so many pretty papers in a stack altogether. haha!! They are still sitting in my space waiting for me to use. To be honest I probably won’t ever finish them completely. (I am however ok with that though)
I decided to pull some of those paper packs for this challenge. I took out some Pebbles paper packs I had. One of the papers I fussy cut some of the chit chat bubbles out of it, to use as embellishments.
Not all the chit chat bubbles had phrases that worked for my layout so I added old phrase stickers on them. I was surprised that I had as many as I did. I had tons from Simple Stories, Glitz and Bella Blvd, to name a few.
I love how the bubbles look layered with some old stickers, some navy feltie hearts and a mix of sequins from the shop. I picked a couple of packs of sequins that had colors that matched the colors on my layout. I used sequins from Passion Flower and A Mermaid’s Tale.
I used a white doily as a layer in my papers. This is a layout comparing my two daughters now from when they were younger to how they are now. I took two pictures of them from this past year and two photos of them from 2011. I printed or cut them done to about 2 1/2 inches by 2 1/2 inches. this smaller size allowed me enough room to embellishment and to get a lot of journaling in.
On my bottom cluster I used one of my newer purchases. I bought the scratch off stickers from Shimelle’s new line Go Now Go. They are super cute. It is fun to be able to write a secret journalling for my daughters to scratch off when they get older.
I added some feltie hearts and more sequins to that cluster so it matched closely to my top two clusters. I try to do this so it helps tie the whole layout together and feels cohesive.
I used some of my favorite older Thickers from Dear Lizzy that are gold and glittered. What’s not to love about glitter and gold?! It gives this layout some glamour.
For the layers behind my photos, because I have a hard time not doing some kind of layering, I used that beautiful new Dear Lizzy black floral paper from the Saturdays Collection. I used some old cream and pink paper to matte my photos. Then added some new teal striped paper from Shimelle. I kept the layers simple though. I think it is easy to go crazy with layers of different patterns and colors when you use old lines with new lines. Many of the collections now have more of a white tone and many of the older collections have more cream tones. I tried to keep this in mind when I picked the Shimelle cream toned paper pairing it with the old cream papers. The pink in the Dear Lizzy florals, matches well with the pink old paper. This really help the papers feel like they were meant to be together. I also outlined some layers too, which I think helps them tie in better too.
Here is a look at the whole layout together.
Felicia’s Old and New Challenge is super fun. I hope you take some time this month to play along! Just add a photo into the pinned challenge post on the 15 minutes to Scrap Facebook Group to play along.
You can also check out my process video for this layout and see how I put it together.
Have a great week!!
