Aloha!! I love this time of the year. It’s a time for fresh and new starts. To know where I want to go from here though I think it is extremely important to take a step back and look at all we have accomplished in the year before. For my family this year was filled with so much.

I really wanted to make a layout that listed all these things. I want to keep it simple and make it fun too.

I decided to go with the 9×12 size to make my layout. I really love the way my albums look like with all these different sizes incorporated through it.

I had so much fun layering papers and labels. Feltie Hearts and Build A Snowman Sequins were layered too. I really wanted the year to stand out.

There are so many ways to make a layout about highlights, right?! I really had to sit back and think about the approach I wanted to take for mine. I decided I wanted it to be focused on journaling and not on pictures. Even though that would have made for a really cool layout too. It is just not what I was feeling. Where I am in my journey of scrapbooking right now.

Because I I am not using a photo or multiple photos, If I did I think I would have loved to have tried circle photos. As crazy as that sounds. I think the smaller glimpses into our highlights would have been a fun approach. I decided to add a bold patterned paper on the bottom half of the layout. It really makes a statement and gets your attention.

To separate the pattern from the open white space, which would soon be filled I used a branding strip from a scrap paper. I choose a black and white pattern to really ground the loud pattern. I layered some labels again as I did in the date title. This simple layering is such a little fun piece that helps give a little cluster to enjoy. I used more Feltie Hearts and Build A Snowman Sequins again to bring a cohesive feel throughout the page.  I also dated the labels with a light aqua date stamp.

At the top of the layout I hand drew Highlights. My handwriting isn’t amazing but I really feel like it’s something that will be treasured. When I think about looking through old documents from the past, seeing a person’s handwriting it just stirs something in me. This is why it is so important for me to write on majority of my layouts, and this one even more so.

I also add a Feltie Heart and some Bulid A Snowman Sequins to the corner. After all the journaling I did I made sure there was Egg-noggin Shimmers ink splatters in that corner as well as throughout the layout.

If I had really planned this layout better, I would have thought the heart stamp as bullet points for my list from the beginning. I however am very much a scrapper of the moment, which I think really shows my passion. It can though make things look little messy, but I am ok with this. So know, that these little details really tells your family about who you are.  It is quite a fun element on a page, whether you pre-plan or wing it.

I started off by hand drawing hearts and then later switched to using a stamp. This gave me the ability to change the color of the hearts easier. I used black and pink ink.

I really love how the journaling up up looking.

It is so much fun seeing all the accomplishments of our family written done. Now I can’t wait to make a layout all about the things I want to reach for this year. I look forward to seeing even bigger and brighter things for my family too.

I hope you were inspired today to journal more and make a layout about things you have accomplished this past year or throughout your life. It would be so much fun to turn this layout into a bucket list type of layout too. There are so many different approaches you could take.

I hope to see you around next week and in the Facebook Group too.

Hannah
