Aloha!!  This month is super fun as we share sketches with the Let’s Get Sketchy design team throughout November.  We are using a new sketch each week. This week’s sketch was designed by Sara, from our design team. Here is a look at that sketch.

There is tons of room for layering and a way to add some fun layering with the butterfly element and something shiny. I was excited to give this sketch a try.

I decided to make a 8 1/2 x 11 spread, since that is what I am working on in my cozy album. I was excited to try to convert this sketch to the size I was scrapbooking in. That is the fun thing about sketches, adding your own twists to them.

I started out with plain white cardstock, from the SpiegelMom Scraps store. Except for the matte behind my photo and a few leaves on my layout I went used Shimelle’s collection Go Now Go. I knew it would be perfect for this travel and fall themed layout.

This layout is about my tradition of watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thanksgiving while we get ready for our meal later in the day. We sit with our coffee and baked goodies, usually something like home cooked cinnamon rolls or french toast that was made ahead of time the night before and baked in the oven. We get comfy on the couch and watch the balloons floating down New York City’s streets as My Mom got the turkey and fixing prepped and ready to get baked and prepared for the day.

One year after I was married my parents saved up to go down to New York City to see the parade in person. The photo I am using is from that trip. I thought it was a fun way to tell about this cozy holiday tradition we have.

Because this layout is going in my cozy album I will be adding a tag, a doily and leaves on this layout. I am trying to have a similar theme throughout this album. Plus it’s a fun way to tie all the layouts together.

img_0745I used a Shimelle small red doily, a smaller tag from the Shimelle ephemera pack. I used Silhouette cut leaves, that I used patterns from my stash of older papers. These are random patterns that I thought would work on a various of autumn and holiday themed layouts.

Instead of butterflies like on the sketch, I went with circles. One of the Shimelle papers had different sizes and colors, I picked out the ones I thought most fit my layout. I only had a small space to add them, but I like how they look like they are going under my photo. I only added my sequins so they were going over top of the circled rows. I tried to match the color of sequin to the color of the paper under neath it. I am using the new sequin mix, Cozy in this layout. It matches the blues and reds in the Shimelle collection. I mix in some Grey Feltie hearts to the line of sequins for some fun.

I used leaves as my layering elements on the top and bottom of the photo. I also used a 4×6 photo instead of a square photo. I wanted to be able to see the whole street behind my mom and Mini Mouse. The streets of New York City as so marvelous especially this time of the year, it would be a same to cut that out. In my layers I added some Feltie hearts from the store. I like the texture element they add.

I had a pretty large title, when using such a small canvas such as this layout, was the hardest part of this layout. I decided to stray a little from the sketch to add the second half of the title down under the photo as well. Having both parts of the title start or finish with the embellishment cluster I feel really ties that altogether. That taxi is so cute down in the bottom cluster too, isn’t it?!

I also added a journaling ticket under the title to fill that space. It also allowed me to add extra journaling that didn’t necessarily go with the main journaling section.
