Tuesday’s Talent with Jessica

Hello, everyone! My name is Jessica and I’m super excited to be guest designing for the month of December for Jody and SpiegelMom Scraps! A little background about me before we get on to the first project- I love a good craft but most of the things I get crafty with are made for my planner. Yes, I’m one of those crazed planner girls and I share all my decorated weeks and projects on Instagram. I know a lot of projects in here include cards and Project Life projects, but I thought it’d be awesome to show you how I utilize some of Jody’s gorgeous sequin mixes to create fun accessories for the notebooks that hold your life!@spiegelmomscraps @jodyspiegelhoff @jkruuu_plans, #plannernerd #plannergirl #erincondren #planneraddict #planner #blizzardsequins #spiegelmomscraps #projectlife #beckyhigginsllc #fusetool #wrmk #pocket #sequinpocket #shakerpocket #DIY #craft #scrapbook

In the planner world, “shaker pocket dashboards” have become THE thing to have in your ring bound planners. Whether it be for an A5, Personal, or Pocket Size, these are a fantastic way to add some sparkle, shine, and pizazz to your planner. So many shop owners on Etsy are starting to create and sell these in their shops, but they’re super easy and fun to make yourself. So today I’ll show you how you can make a Winter Wonderland themed shaker dashboard!blog 2

Here’s what you’ll need/what I used. Remember, these are completely customizable, so these materials are just a guide of inspiration and you can use almost anything!

     – Project Life 4×6 Fuse Pockets (or whichever size will fit your planner)

     – Recollections Tiny Beads in ‘Silver’

     – Recollections ‘Snowflake’ Glitter Embellishments

     – Project Life ‘Fuse Tool’

     – SpiegelMom Scraps ‘Blizzard Mix Sequins’

     – SpiegelMom Scraps ‘Silver Stardust Sequins’

     – Scissor

     – Hole punch (I used a Diary one to create the evenly spaced out 6!)c581387a-d343-4cc8-a63d-2d7694d929cdblog 4

The first thing you’re going to want to do is cut off the extra plastic on the pocket. You can totally leave it, seal the pocket there and hole punch the excess, but I find it fits nice later on when you punch into the pocket.  When that’s done you want to take the snowflake embellishments (they’re essentially 3D stickers, and stick them randomly onto the inside of the pocket! TIP: Make sure you’re holding the pocket with the opening to the left of you, so that you don’t accidentally create an upside down shaker, although in this case it doesn’t really matter, too much! The reason I’m inserting these embellishments is so that when all the sequins and glitter fall, these 3D stickers can keep the pocket looking full and busy, rather than empty at the top with a puddle of sparkle at the bottom!DSC00530blog 3

Next comes the fun part- taking your batches of sprinkles, glitters, and sequins to mix your own combo! For this particular shaker, I separated the smallest snowflakes from the SpiegelMom Scraps ‘Blizzard Mix’ and put them into a mini plastic bag. Then, into that same mini bag, I added a sprinkling of the Recollections Silver tiny beads, along with the SpiegelMom Scraps ‘Silver Stardust’ sequins. I kept adding little by little until I got a combo I liked. I also found a small batch of midnight blue mini sequins that I threw in as well to add some more color. Seal up the mini bag and shake it up. If you’re happy with the way it looks all mixed together, you can move on to pouring it into the fuse pocket and sealing that bad boy up!DSC00533blog 5

I used the Project Life ‘Fuse Tool’ to seal up the edge of the pocket and made the mix of sequins was lying at the edge to avoid it getting stuck. Then I fused another line about 1/2 an inch away from the original fuse. This is so we can hole punch that are and not have to worry about sequins and glitter flying out! As you can see, when I went in with my diary punch, I punch it all crooked. *sigh* No crafter is perfect. So instead of losing my mind and tossing this in the bin, I realized that I could just washi the edge and then repunch, which is exactly what I did, et voila! If anything, the washi really brings the whole theme of the shaker dashboard together!blog 6blog 7

And there you have it! Your very own shaker pocket dashboard to dazzle your crafter/planner friends! It’s a really fun activity to DIY. It takes no time at all once you get the hang of it! Thanks so much for having me today, and I’ll see you guys  next week with another fun project for the planner gal in you!
