Hello everyone!  Jody here again with another layout using metal dies to create the look of using an electronic die cutting machine.  Last weeks layout used the circle stitched die set from Kaiserkraft, which I just LOVE!  It’s different than the other stitched dies on the market because the stitches are on the circle that is die cut out, and not on the negative part, or circle punched in the cardstock/paper.  You can see the faux stitching on my die cut journaling circle.

Instead of using just one type of Kaiserkraft metal die, I used a couple! I used the Nesting Stitched Circles and the Icons metal dies to create my layout, along with the fabulous Pink Paislee Fancy Free collection, sequins from the shop, 2 glassine bags and some Amy Tangerine Thickers words.

To create this look on your page, you’ll need a couple things:  A Big Shot or similar die cutting machine and your favorite metal dies!  Since a 12×12″ sheet of cardstock or paper won’t fit through a Big Shot, you’ll need to cut your cardstock or paper down to either 6×12″ or 5.75×5.75″, as I did today.  I wanted to mount them onto a piece of white American Crafts Cardstock to really help it pop.  I easily could have left my paper 6×12″ but I wanted the faint look of the grid in the background so I cut them down to  5.75 by 5.75″ so the white cardstock would show around the edges of my layout.  To get the placement I wanted, I simply played with where the die cut circles to be on my layout.  After I had those placed where I like them, I added the Kaiserkraft Icon dies as accents.  Tip: When running the metal dies through my Big Shot, I used a small piece of washi tape to keep them in place.

After I had everything die cut out, I create some shaker windows with glassine bags and sequins.  This was super easy to do! I used a large glassine bag for the two circles on the upper right of the layout and a medium glassine bag behind the largest circle.  To keep some of the Magical Ocean sequins stuck throughout the circle (so they didn’t all fall to the bottom) I opened up the bag and drizzled some tacky glue inside. Then, I just poured in the desired amount of sequins to fill the space.  This next step is pretty technical.. I smooshed around the sequins until they were inside the circle where the peaked through the die cut window.  Super technical right! LOL!  To finish it off, I folded the glassine bag over and sealed it with some tacky glue as well and then adhered it to the back of the 6×6″ Fancy Free paper.  I repeated this for the other die cut circle using the Spring Blooms sequin mix.

For the other two sections, I used the super cute Icon dies to create the design elements and backed them with scraps of Pink Paislee Fancy Free papers to compliment the messy layers behind my photo. I used both the negative space from the Icon dies and the die cuts they punched out.  Using dies is a great way to get so much more out of your papers and really stretch your stash!  Just think of all the possibilities!
