Scrapbooking with Karla – Scraplifting Missy Whidden

Hi friends! Karla back today with a scraplift for you using the amazing Missy Whidden, our Guest Designer this month, as inspiration, along with three beautiful new sequin mixes – Cunning One, Birthdays & Balloons and Cotton Candy Land. I really loved the pinks, yellows and greens in her layout, and of course Missy rocks the watercolours, so I wanted to use those elements in my layout as well as layering paper behind my photo and using different stickers and fonts for a title. Here you can see Missy’s wonderful layout!

Here’s a look at my layout using some photos from a December when my daughter was 3 and we went to the local zoo for a Zoolights display. I pulled out a Simple Stories collection that has nontradition colours, and of course was excited to find this cute penguin journaling card and sticker to go with the penguin lights in my photo! I started off with a white sheet of cardstock and used my Tattered Angels mists in pink, yellow, green and iridescent gold to create a watercolour effect on the background by using a piece of plastic packaging to spritz the mist on before smooshing it onto the paper. Then, I created some splattered effects by removing the cover and tapping the nozzle onto the desired areas.

I used some of the clear sequins in the Cunning One sequin mix to accent the light strand sticker that I placed on the journaling card. They add just a bit of shine to the lights!

I had a lot of fun diecutting some watercoloured patterned paper with the Lawn Fawn String Of Lights die and sponging the edges with Distress Inks. I really loved the look of the gold Missy added onto her layout and I pulled that in with the gold string diecuts, the loooped gold thread and the Thickers letters.

I feel like titles are not my strong point, so I was really happy to mix and match my letter and word stickers along with some stamps and chipboard to create a fun title. The stamps from the Home For The Holidays collection from Wild Whisper worked beautifully!
