Working with a Sketch

Hello Folks!

Laura here today with my version of a sketch…

I love working with sketches.  Sometimes I go off on a tangent and the finished layout looks nothing like the sketch, other times I use the sketch very literally.  This was a literal copy up to a point…

I got my ruler out and did a little maths to get my patterned paper sections exact.  I cut duplicate pieces in vellum so I could layer up with foam pads for added dimension and shadows.  They are very subtle layers but, I think, well worth it.

I stuck my glitter spot acetate down with 3d glue gel for even more dimension.  I only used the glue behind the glitter and one spot I knew I would be adding an embellishment.

When I had finished my literal copy I felt the bottom needed something extra so added some bunting.  I used some yellow baker’s twine to anchor my pennants.

When it came to embellishing I added some Salt of the Earth sequins and Shooting Cork Stars.  These stars are quickly becoming a favourite of mine.  They are small enough to add to most layouts without overtaking but still adding the gorgeous cork texture and colour.  They are also easy to alter with gesso or paint if you fancy the texture but not the colour!

Thanks for stopping by today,

Laura

What About Wednesday: Shaker Layout

13932877_10210738580967273_2143640393516853298_n

Aloha!! It’s Hannah here with you this fine Wednesday. Can you believe this is our last sketch with Let’s Get Sketchy and our team up with them. I have had tons of fun seeing their layouts and all of our’s. Don’t forget to hop over to their blog and check out their sketches when you need some inspiration.

I have to make a confession. I hope you won’t tell!! I have never made a shaker card before. I know it’s crazy isn’t it?! They are so cool and seem really easy to make. Plus who wouldn’t want to use tons of sequins at one time.

In all honesty I have never made a shaker card even though I keep thinking I really should. When I was looking at this week’s sketch the first thing that popped in my head was, this would be really cool as a shaker. Here is the sketch for this week designed by Let’s Get Sketchy Brenshevia.

img_0151

I started out with white card stock from the SpiegelMom Scraps Store, I used two sheets. I cut a big circle out of one of the white sheets. I thought the white would help whatever sequin mix I decided to use, pop.

I also grabbed a sheet of heart acetate so that it was easy to see the sequins.

img_1035

Because I was using the circle for the shaker, I moved the circle a little to the left. I wanted more card stock on one side for the layering. I also decided to use just one photo that was horizontal and a journaling card instead of two photos. This left a little more open space. If you spend the time to make a shaker you want to see it, right?!

img_1034

The photo I picked was of my son, me and our puppy on the couch, with my puppy taken up most of the photo. (This is a common occurrence when we are on the couch.) I wanted to make make I documented it before she (our puppy) is too big for the couch at all.

img_1038

There was a lot of orange in the photo. Which inspired my sequin choice, 2 Cool 4 U.

img_1033

For the layers I choose colors that complimented the sequin mix, blacks, grays, light blue and yellow. With the white background it really helps brings your eye to the shaker. I used double-sided dimensional foam tape to pop up the circled card stock with the acetate paper. I made sure I used extra sticky tape, and liquid glue on top of the acetate so my layered paper doesn’t come off over time.

I love how the edges lift off the acetate though. Some texture always makes me happy, and I love the shadows that it creates.

img_1040

I used feltie hearts in gray and blue around the shaker. I really wanted to draw your eye around the photo and shaker. I added a few sequins from the 2 Cool 4 U mix that I used inside.

I added a bit a sparkle with my title to bring out the tiny little silver stars in the sequin mix.

img_1032

Look at how those colors pop right off of the white?!!

img_1036

I am really glad I finally took that step and made a shaker, and on a layout too!! It is so much fun, and it was actually really easy!!

Here is a look at the full layout.

Sketchin’ with Megan

Hello SMS fans!! This is Megan and I am back today with another sketch made by Sara for this weeks team up with :et’s Get Sketchy. I had a lot of fun with this sketch. I tried to play outside the box a little bit and took an idea I saw from my fellow design team member, Laura. I loved how she used the sequins to make little boxes to mimic the sketch so I took that idea and made it my own along with the sketch.

This is the sketch that Sara made and below is my take on it:

smssketch2-1footer

I had these 3 cute photos of 2 of my boys when they were younger and we were playing a video game together.

smssketch2-2

I kept this layout very simple and only embellished a little bit with the Hot Right Now sequins, chunky stars and a doily.

smssketch2-3

I used some papers from the Pink Paislee ‘Fancy Free’ collection. I really like the way the look with the sequins I used.

smssketch2-4

The title I made with Shimelle’s ‘Fitzgeral’ teal alpha and We R Memory Keepers ‘Honey I’m Home’ little sticker alpha’s.

smssketch2-5

smssketch2-6

I also used some Coloringz Spray Mist by Shimmerz Paints called ‘No Yolking’ and Mint Heidi Shine.

I hope you enjoyed seeing my take on the sketch this week! Tomorrow we will have a new sketch in this fun swap we’re doing this month. Make sure to check out the Let’s Get Sketchy blog and come back here as well to get the new sketch!

Sketchin’ with Crafty Meggy

Hello SpiegelMom Scraps fans!! This is Megan and I am here today to share a layout I made with the sketch that Sara Scraps whipped up for this weeks challenge. I really loved this sketch and thought about doing a couple different things with it. In the end, I was inspired by a recent layout I watched Katty Miranda make for a new YouTube series. She used her Shimmerz Paints Mists to make a cute background and I wanted to do something along the same lines.

Here’s the sketch:

sarascrapssketch

This is the layout I made.

sarascrapssketch1-1footer

I really loved the butterflies on the sketch, but I’m still in the process of setting up my scrap studio. It would’ve been way too much work for me to pull out my Silhouette, so I thought using the sprays would be a fun alternative.

sarascrapssketch1-2

One of my favorite things to do is to use a small glassine bag and fill it with sequins. I used the secret new Holiday Traditions sequin mix (it’s so new and secret that it isn’t in the store yet! 😉 lol).

sarascrapssketch1-3

I really love this cute photo of my middle son eating pudding when he was a toddler. He was a really messy eater! Isn’t it cute for toddlers to be messy eaters?!!

sarascrapssketch1-4

The sprays I used were Before Dawn Vibez, No Yoking Coloringz, and Bamboo Leaf Spritz. I thought these colors matched well with the colors of my sons shirt in the photo. I also used a little bit of Teal Me No Lies Texturez behind the photo.

sarascrapssketch1-5

I like the added texture that this doily gives the title cluster.

sarascrapssketch1-6

I also used the Chunky Stars from the shop to add neutral color to the cluster. I will do my journaling on this ‘Happy Dance’ 3×4 card before I stick it in my layout.

sarascrapssketch1-7

I am also thinking I might also do some hidden journaling and stick it in this cute little glassine bag.

I have a process video for this layout as well so I will be back a bit later to post that. You can keep an eye on my YouTube channel to see that. Thanks for stopping by! I hope you’re having a great scrappy weekend!!

Enjoy Life – Let’s Get Sketchy + SMS Team Up!

Hello!

Today I get to share my interpretation of this week’s sketch! You may have heard, we at SpiegelMom Scraps have teamed up with our friends over at Let’s Get Sketchy for the month of November. You can visit their site for the sketch or check it out here in the 15 minutes 2 Scrap Facebook group.#SpiegelMomScraps #exclusivesequins #lgsketchy #scrapbookingsketches #letsgetsketchy #scrapbooking #shimmerz #shimmerzpaints @shimmerzpaints @spiegelmom_scraps @wordsandpaperscraps @lgsketchyThe fun sketch Sara designed included butterflies and no matter how hard I try, I can’t figure out how to incorporate butterflies into my projects. Ugh! Strangely, I think it’s because I don’t have kids yet. So in place of those I’ve included some heart punches. My whole post was inspired by the gorgeous new sequin mix in the shop: 2 Cool 4 U. I absolutely love this mix! #SpiegelMomScraps #exclusivesequins #lgsketchy #scrapbookingsketches #letsgetsketchy #scrapbooking #shimmerz #shimmerzpaints @shimmerzpaints @spiegelmom_scraps @wordsandpaperscraps @lgsketchyAnd while many of the mixes in the shop coordinate well with popular lines – I’m on a crafting budget, so I’ve chosen to use some papers from my stash. I stitched my punched hearts onto some paper from the Dear Lizzy Saturday collection, backed against white cardstock. I then splattered some Shimmerz Vibez in Egg Noggin’ for a little shine. I layered this picture of my sweet German Shepherd onto some vellum and gold-foil polka dotted paper.

That triangle shaped shaker pocket full of sequins found its place stitched on the corner of my patterned paper. To make this: I first trimmed an extra page protector scrap into my desired triangle shape. I then used my Fuse Tool to seal the sequins in.

I used a few pieces of wood veneer on my page including a mini clothespin, We R Memory Keepers “Honey I’m Home” title piece, and a heart from my stash. #SpiegelMomScraps #exclusivesequins #lgsketchy #scrapbookingsketches #papercrafting #letsgetsketchy #scrapbooking #shimmerz #shimmerzpaints @shimmerzpaints @spiegelmom_scraps @wordsandpaperscraps @lgsketchyTo finish off my page I included a cloud feltie from the shop, and a brad from the Simple Stories “Posh” collection. I added my journaling and then I was done! Stay tuned this month for a new sketch every week!

My Girl Baby Layout with Guest Designer Karla

Hey there crafty friends! Karla here today, and I’m super excited to be Guest Designing here today- what an honor! Today, I’m sharing a layout that I made of my youngest daughter, Erica, when she was just a year old. Wow – time flies – she’s now almost 5!

I started off choosing a sketch and layered on papers and stickers from the Echo Park Petticoats and Pinstripes collection by Lori Whitlock. I just love these lovely bright papers, and the pretty sequins from the Pinky Pie, Spring Blooms and Let’s Be Mermaids Sequin Mixes from the SpiegelMom Scraps Shop were the perfect embellishments! I love using a sketch as a starting point, then choosing my photos, papers and embellishments.

These wonderful Cork Chevrons are so awesome for layering! I pulled out some paper ephemera diecuts from a My Mind’s Eye All Things Girl package to add to my layout. I love the vintage feel of these diecuts!

I used the tiny silver stars from the Pinky Pie collection on this pretty crown, which I layered over a sticker from the EP collection pack. I added some handwritten journaling and stamped the date with an Amy Tan date stamp. I love that a lot of the paper packs come with coordinated journaling cards in them. Even if I choose not to use them in a pocket page, they are great to use on a layout!

These sweet little flower sequins in the Pinky Pie Sequin Mix were just perfect to layer on the flower sticker. They are subtle and add a pretty shine! You can see some of the stitching that I added across my page. Erica was very excited to #1 – have another layout of her own baby pics and #2 – help me with the stitching!

You can see my process video here on YouTube or click below:

Here’s a look at the beautiful embellishments I used on my layout, which you can find at the SpiegelMom Scraps Shop:

Sketch Sunday with Crafty Meggy: Play on your Birthday!

Hello scrappy friends! I am changing things up a bit today and using the sketch that Lisa picked for the monthly challenge in the facebook group. I’ll be back in September with another Scraplift Sunday, though!

Here’s the sketch and the moodboard:

sketchsunday sketchsundaymoodboard

I really liked using these two pieces for my layout inspiration today. Here’s what I came up with:

sketchsunday20footer

I wanted to use that blue polka dot glassine bag that you can see behind the big focal photo in the middle. I decided to play off the blue color in the moodboard.

sketchsunday20-5

I have 3 little clusters on this layout. This one I used blue and white twine and a heart cork piece from the shop.

sketchsunday20-2

For the title I used the American Crafts Thickers called ‘Fancy’ from the Fancy Free collection, some Teresa Collins little aphas and the Fancy Pants Atwell puffy stickers.

sketchsunday20-3

For the top cluster I used the adorable Cork-Fetti Hearts mix. Isn’t this little banner of hearts just perfect?!! I love it!! I had the ‘Fancy Free’ puffy stickers and the word ‘yay’ worked on this layout because my son is opening and playing with a birthday present. I also added some twine and Gold Sequin Confetti. In this photo they are reflecting the light a ton!

sketchsunday20-4

Here’s a better view of the confetti sequins. I wanted to used them in place of mist in the sketch and I really love how it turned out.
