Tea Party with Ali

Hey y’all, Ali here! As you may have noticed, the Sparklers are all scraplifting Missy Whidden this week! I had so much fun with the last one I made that I was so excited to try again. Seriously, Missy’s layouts are so hard to replicate but they are filled with so much inspiration! I really loved this original (obviously, I pretty much love everything she does!).

Just like last week, I really wanted to take the “bones” of the layout and make it my own! This layout is really near and dear to my heart. I have been wanting to start scrapping my own childhood and this photo of my great grandmother and myself having a tea party has been at the top of my list. Do you ever have photos you are almost afraid to scrapbook? I really wanted to do it justice, so I have been putting it off for a long time. When I saw Missy’s layout I knew this would be a great starting point for this treasured photo.

I started with a combination of older lines, Fancy Free and Open Book. I really love the pale pink and coral colors with a pop of bright colors here and there. Plus the spine of the “book” in that Maggie Holmes paper was too perfect not to (finally) utilize! When I was finished placing my patterned papers I added the stitching and then got to work fussy cutting some florals! I went light with the mixed media, simply scraping some gorgeous Peach Fuzz Paste-eez through a star stencil. I finished it of with a sprinkling of Pink Parade, this sequin mix is so fun and pretty it makes me squeal a little bit (but not too loud because I typically scrap when my kids are asleep!).

I think this layout really captures this sweet moment, and it makes me smile to know it is documented.

Here is a little close up of those fabulous sequins and that gorgeous paste-eez. I am going to be really transparent for a second…mixed media scares me. Every.Single.Time. Sometimes I make backgrounds and I throw them away because they are terrible. I haven’t had a lot of experience with texture paste and what not, because as I mentioned before…it SCARES ME! So, I put that aside to give the paste-eez a try and WHOA! This stuff is so easy to use, the colors are fantastic, and I love love love the added dimension and interest just a little bit can add to a layout! So fun! And totally not scary (anymore!).

I hope you all had a fabulous weekend, if you are Sunday shopping…that is my favorite day to shop…be sure to save some money!

Mixed Media With Karla – Keepin’ It Real Scraplift

Hi friends! Karla here today with a fun Mixed Media layout! Our theme this week is to scraplift the infamous Missy Whidden! She is so amazingly talented – I was a little intimidated to even attempt this!!

Here’s a look at Missy’s awesome scrapbook layout. You can check it out on Instagram HERE or watch her YouTube process video HERE.

I loved the mixed media circles she layered on, so I decided to try my Distress Paints using the same technique she showed in her video with the Shimmerz Paste-eez (which you can find in the SpiegelMom Scraps Store!!) It was fun to try a few new techniques and step outside my comfort zone! I think that’s important for everyone to do once in a while. I even decided to post a crazy face photo, and this Keepin’ It Real sticker from the Pink Paislee Take Me Away collection was the perfect title ūüėČ and the bright sequins from the¬†Jaded Hearts,¬†Neon Summer¬†and Gotta Love Emoji’s¬†mixes were just the right pop!

I used some Dylusions mists on my background, spraying on a piece of acetate and smooshing it onto my background in blue, green and purple colours. It was great to get them out of the drawer! Since my photos were very neutral I felt like it was the perfect opportunity to use lots of background colours.

I used some Shimelle Starshine stickers and added a bit of thread under my handcut paint blobs. After I first layered on the thread, I realized I had it in too much of a perfect circle, lol, so I had to mess it up a bit!

I layered my photos on some Hazel & Ruby printed tissue paper from my stash and then on top of some plain green tissue paper. I love the bit of texture that gives, and I popped up a few of the paint dabs to give some dimension.

Awesome little brother

Good morning everyone! Sarah here this morning to share with you my take on a layout by Missy Whidden!

Oh my! I was quite intimidated by this one! I love to watch Missy scrap away on her youtube channel, but I definitely cant scrap like her! But I sure did have fun trying! This is the layout of Missy’s that I chose to scrap lift:

I went for way different colors on my layout and well I guess theme too. This one is all boy!

I chose to use the Crate Paper, Cool kid and the Deck the Halls sequin pack, it went perfect with this collection!

I started by choosing the papers I wanted to punch my circles out of, added some glimmer mist with the packaging technique and then placed my circles down on my layout. I added the top and bottom strip too and then sewed them all down.

Then I moved on to embellishing. I added a pennant banner to the left of the photo, where Missy had had an arrow. Then I moved on to the right side where I added the title.

I matted my photo, added layers of vellum, I think Missy used tissue paper, but I didn’t have any, so vellum worked for me! I added a frame to the right of the photo and then added 3D adhesive to the rest for it all to be popped up and then placed it down. I grabbed my thread and made two thread nests and placed them to the upper left of the photo and then down behind my title. Then I grabbed my sequins and had fun playing with them, adding them here and there around my layout.

I hope you enjoyed my layout. I think Missy is amazing and I love her work! Thanks for coming by and checking ¬†out what I did today and I hope you come back and check out all the fun stuff that’s coming in August too!! So much fun to come!!

Girls Just Wanna Have Sun

Happy Sunday everyone, Ali here, with a super sunny scraplift! We are devoting the entire week to scraplifting the fabulous Missy Whidden! Now let me tell you, that is a tall order and I was super nervous about this! But I actually really enjoyed it and I love the layout I created!

Here is the layout I chose to scraplift, I absolutely love everything about it! Missy has such a distinctive style, and it is totally her own! I wanted to do it justice, without just copying it completely.

I had these fun selfies of my mom, sister, and me at the pool. So I knew I wanted to use the new awesome echo park collection Summer Dreams. So instead of the large star die cuts, I went with suns! I started with some watercolors to create a background in the color scheme. Then I added the suns and machine stitched around them (which was definitely a task!) and I absolute love the look this creates!

After the background was complete it was so simple to add my photos and some layering behind them. I used one of the stickers from the collection as my title. And of course, the best part, sequins! I mixed one of the mini packs with Orange Blossom  and sprinkled those around. Then I picked out a few of the light blues from the Ferris Wheel mix, just to tie it all together! Those little shells are perfect for summer scrapping, I just want to sprinkle them on everything!! Lastly, I typed my journaling and printed on some vellum. It is one of my favorite things to do, especially with a mixed media background, because I sometimes hate covering up all of that hard work!

As you can see, I tried to make this my own, but the inspiration from Missy definitely shines through!

Here are some close ups so you can see those amazing sequins up close, aren’t they fabulous?

Thanks for joining me for this scraplift week, be sure to come back next Sunday, I will have another Missy lift for you! And as always, save some money on your gorgeous sequins with this coupon code!

Triple Hop-Day 2

@spiegelmomscraps @jodyspiegelhoff @missywhidden, #spiegelmomscraps #scrapbooking #diy #papercraft

Happy Saturday and welcome back to our Triple Hop weekend!!  Today we have more of the Sparklers DT girls AND three awesome guests ready to inspire you.  Welcome Missy Whidden, Alex Hunter and Karla Yungwirth!! Thank you so much for joining us and sharing your creativity with the SMS fans!

Today is all about SEQUINS and all the creative things you can do with them in your paper crafting.  There is so much more to sequins than just shaker cards and today we want to knock your sparkly socks off, so let’s get started! Here’s today’s sparkly line-up:

It’s Jody here on the SMS blog and I’m totally thrilled!   Today, I’m kicking off Sequin Saturday with this fun layout. I started off by creating my background with Shimmerz Dazzlerz Pucker Up Pink and watering it down with a a few sprays of H2O. I smooshed it around on a plastic Ziplock baggie. I put my hand inside the Ziplock and used my fingers to smoosh & kind of stamp my color onto my American Crafts white cardstock.

Next, I added Pink Paislee branding stripes along the middle to ground everything. Then I added more layers from there, beginning with some black cardstock from my scraps bin. I knew I wanted to pull in black because I already had my title planned out. I added a few messy layers behind my 4×4″ black & white photo and then mounted it all onto the black cardstock, backed with craft foam for some dimension.

In my layout I used my Summer Sunset sequins (which you can pre-order now) to accent the direction & angle at which my girls are “dabbing.” Using sequins to accent movement in a layout really helps your eye move naturally across your layout. Give it a try! Pull out action photos such as a sporting event, children dancing, running, etc. Use the sequins as an extentsion of the energy flowing from your photo or photos.

Another fun thing I did on this layout is add some stamping by pulling stamps from my stash. The “Carefree” stamp is a mystery to me BUT the “#together” stamp is from an American Craft super cute roller date stamp set.

The black die cut heart is from the free SpiegelMom Scraps cut file “Mermaid Hair Don’t Care” found here.

Finally, here’s a close up of the smooshed Pucker Up Pink & water with the Summer Sunset sequins.

Thank you for spending your time with us again today! Next, you’re on to Missy and all the awesomeness on her blog!!

For my layout today, I wanted¬†to steer away from plain white American Crafts cardstock or a patterned paper. ¬†I really wanted to use the brand spankin’ new Paige Evans Take Me Away collection with Pink Paislee so I decided to compliment it with starting with lavender American Crafts cardstock from my stash.¬†
@pinkpaislee @paigeevans @americancrafts @amytangerine @shimmerzpaintz @spiegelmomscraps @jodyspiegehoff, #spiegelmomscraps #shimmerzpaints #sequins #felt #diecuts #stitching #handstitching #paigeevans #takemeaway #pinkpasileeI added some gorgeous Shimmerz Dazzlerz in Licorice using an older Amy Tangerine stencil and just love the contrast!! ¬†I added a thin layer so it would dry faster. ¬†Then I had the idea to use my Kaisercraft metal dies as a stitching template. ¬†I positioned my metal heart die around my layout in three spots and used my paper poker¬†to poke the holes for my hand stitching. ¬†It really didn’t take that long with stitch the hearts as they weren’t very big and I only used white embroidery thread. ¬†I added the two shades of grey Heart Felties in a few areas around my layout, especially nearby and touching the stitched hearts. ¬†I love to have similar embellishments touch and overlap. ¬†I feel it’s very interesting in a layout.

Another one my favorite things to do so that I don’t waste any Shimmerz products is use the stencil as a stamp after I’ve used it as a stencil. ¬†Hang in there and follow what I’m sayin’!! ¬†After I used my Amy Tangerine triangle stencil to create the black triangles shown above, there is still some Dazzlerz leftover on my stencil, right? ¬†So, instead of just wiping it off, I turned the stencil over and stamp that leftover Dazzlerz down right onto the bottom right corner of my layout. ¬†It leaves a pretty cool effect!!

I’m so grateful you stopped by today!! ¬†I hope you’ve enjoyed my layout, featuring some fabulous Heart Felties!! ¬†Be sure to leave a comment on all the blogs today and throughout the weekend! There’s another chance everyday this weekend to win another $10 shop credit!! ¬†

Now, you’re on to the amazing Missy Whidden!! ¬†Enjoy her beautiful work my friends!¬†
