Hello friends, and happy Thursday! Karla here today, and this week we are having a wonderful time scraplifting the most amazing Jen Schow! I really liked this layout below that she created, and thought it would be a nice way to use some of the 3×4 photos that I usually print out with the Project Life App, as well as using up some of the pretty journaling cards I have in my stash!
I decided to start off with some older CTMH papers from my stash and the coordinating stickers. The colours looked great with my photos and since they had an outdoorsy theme it went well. I also had some Project Life cards that I thought would go well with the papers and photos and then grabbed the Sweet Pea, Deck The Halls, Orange Blossom and Ferris Wheel sequin mixes.
I added some Stickles and Glossy Accents to highlight different areas of the stickers and Tim Holtz botanical ephemera. The orange blossom sequin mix had the perfect tiny flowers to add detail to the mushroom sticker, and I love how the larger flower from the mix has a bit of iridescence to it and coordinated perfectly!
Just by adding some sequins to the journaling card and paper flower I was able to coordinate both elements, and add that little bit of something extra special to my layout!
I really liked how the reds in the Deck The Halls went with the coral colour in the stickers and flair badge, and I used the Abandoned Coral Distress Ink to stamp some little triangular images on the background. I even added a little of the Natural Burlap String on the tiny sticker tag.
Hey there crafty friends! Karla here today, and I’m super excited to be Guest Designing here today- what an honor! Today, I’m sharing a layout that I made of my youngest daughter, Erica, when she was just a year old. Wow – time flies – she’s now almost 5!
I started off choosing a sketch and layered on papers and stickers from the Echo Park Petticoats and Pinstripes collection by Lori Whitlock. I just love these lovely bright papers, and the pretty sequins from the Pinky Pie, Spring Blooms and Let’s Be Mermaids Sequin Mixes from the SpiegelMom Scraps Shop were the perfect embellishments! I love using a sketch as a starting point, then choosing my photos, papers and embellishments.
These wonderful Cork Chevrons are so awesome for layering! I pulled out some paper ephemera diecuts from a My Mind’s Eye All Things Girl package to add to my layout. I love the vintage feel of these diecuts!
I used the tiny silver stars from the Pinky Pie collection on this pretty crown, which I layered over a sticker from the EP collection pack. I added some handwritten journaling and stamped the date with an Amy Tan date stamp. I love that a lot of the paper packs come with coordinated journaling cards in them. Even if I choose not to use them in a pocket page, they are great to use on a layout!
These sweet little flower sequins in the Pinky Pie Sequin Mix were just perfect to layer on the flower sticker. They are subtle and add a pretty shine! You can see some of the stitching that I added across my page. Erica was very excited to #1 – have another layout of her own baby pics and #2 – help me with the stitching!

Hello everyone! Jody here again with another layout using metal dies to create the look of using an electronic die cutting machine. Last weeks layout used the circle stitched die set from Kaiserkraft, which I just LOVE! It’s different than the other stitched dies on the market because the stitches are on the circle that is die cut out, and not on the negative part, or circle punched in the cardstock/paper. You can see the faux stitching on my die cut journaling circle.
Instead of using just one type of Kaiserkraft metal die, I used a couple! I used the Nesting Stitched Circles and the Icons metal dies to create my layout, along with the fabulous Pink Paislee Fancy Free collection, sequins from the shop, 2 glassine bags and some Amy Tangerine Thickers words.
To create this look on your page, you’ll need a couple things: A Big Shot or similar die cutting machine and your favorite metal dies! Since a 12×12″ sheet of cardstock or paper won’t fit through a Big Shot, you’ll need to cut your cardstock or paper down to either 6×12″ or 5.75×5.75″, as I did today. I wanted to mount them onto a piece of white American Crafts Cardstock to really help it pop. I easily could have left my paper 6×12″ but I wanted the faint look of the grid in the background so I cut them down to 5.75 by 5.75″ so the white cardstock would show around the edges of my layout. To get the placement I wanted, I simply played with where the die cut circles to be on my layout. After I had those placed where I like them, I added the Kaiserkraft Icon dies as accents. Tip: When running the metal dies through my Big Shot, I used a small piece of washi tape to keep them in place.
After I had everything die cut out, I create some shaker windows with glassine bags and sequins. This was super easy to do! I used a large glassine bag for the two circles on the upper right of the layout and amedium glassine bag behind the largest circle. To keep some of the Magical Ocean sequins stuck throughout the circle (so they didn’t all fall to the bottom) I opened up the bag and drizzled some tacky glue inside. Then, I just poured in the desired amount of sequins to fill the space. This next step is pretty technical.. I smooshed around the sequins until they were inside the circle where the peaked through the die cut window. Super technical right! LOL! To finish it off, I folded the glassine bag over and sealed it with some tacky glue as well and then adhered it to the back of the 6×6″ Fancy Free paper. I repeated this for the other die cut circle using the Spring Blooms sequin mix.
For the other two sections, I used the super cute Icon dies to create the design elements and backed them with scraps of Pink Paislee Fancy Free papers to compliment the messy layers behind my photo. I used both the negative space from the Icon dies and the die cuts they punched out. Using dies is a great way to get so much more out of your papers and really stretch your stash! Just think of all the possibilities!

Hi everyone! Jody here & I’m so excited to be back today for another guest post! I ssoooo love my Sparklers Design Team but I really miss blogging and creating more layouts on a regular basis. I think I need another “ME” so I can divide up some more of this small business behind the scenes stuff!! Anyone out there that can help with that LOL!!!
Anyway, today I’m sharing a technique I’ve haven’t done in awhile but I always LOVE the results. I began with this lovely green diagonal stripe paper from the Pink Pasilee Fancy Free Collection and this beautiful FREE cut file over at Hip Kit Scrapbook Club. You just sign up for a free member account and you’ll have access to their free files!! So awesome!!
Ok so, for this technique I spread some type of mixed media (gesso, texture paste, acrylic paints or Shimmerz Dazzlerz) onto an area of my layout and use a fun stamp to press right into the wet media (Dazzlerz, etc). This creates some awesome texture, or even a title. I used the Spun Sugar Dazzlerz and two different stamps, Amy Tangerine “Happy Place” and a small Stampin Up! stamp circle stamp. I also did a little bit of simple stitching on my layout to show the butterfly’s flight path 🙂
When the layout is angled more, the light really plays with theShimmerz Paints Dazzlerz and creates this beautiful effect! It shines and reveals a really cool, almost hidden, phrase in the Dazzlerz.
You’ll also notice that there are sequins behind that stunning butterfly cut file from Hip Kit Club. To create this huge sequins shaker pocket I trimmed a piece of vellum & a piece of Fancy Free paper to the same shape as the butterfly. I carefully glued the vellum directly onto the backside of the cut file. After it was dry, I laid the butterfly with the front side facing down onto my workbench and spread some glue randomly over small areas of the vellum. The backside of the cut file/vellum wasn’t covered in glue, but there were several small areas of wet glue spaced out which where going to hold onto a bunch of loose sequins I was about to pour over my butterfly! After pouring my desired amount of a sequins onto the butterfly (Spring Blooms, Gold Stardust & Gold Sweatheart Sequins), I sealed up the huge butterfly shaker with the piece of Fancy Free paper and allowed it to dry completely before adhering it to my layout. I layered it up with those stunning black Thicker words from Amy Tangerine.
To add a little more interest to my fussy cut flowers and leaves, I folded the leaved down the middle and added few lines with a black Sharpe marker. I also added the date of the photo using the lines in the Fancy Free paper.
I finished the layout off with the Simple Stories alpha stickers from last summer, which I’ve been hoarding in my sticker stash! I just love love love those wood grain alphas!!
Thank you so much for spending your time here today! If you’re interested in any of the products used today, they are lined in the blog post. Be sure to find a Sparklers DT girl’s discount code here or on Instagram before you check out too!
Hello, hello!! Jody here today and oh how I’ve missed blogging! As you have probably seen, I’ve been busting my butt behind the scenes these last few months getting ready for big things in 2016. The first big thing was the tripling of my Design Team, The Sparklers!! They are a fabulous bunch of ladies from around the globe!! I hope you had a chance to check the Design Team reveal posts HERE and HERE.
Today, I’m sharing a Project Life spread I’ve been playing around with for the last few days. These photos are from the first day of school this year and now that I’m looking at them here, Sari is taller.. up to my neck!! I need to put a brick on that girl’s head to slow her down!! Sheesh.. ok mommy rant over.
I’m using the We R Memory Keepers photo sleeves and really love them. They’re thicker plastic than the Project Life sleeves, which is HUGE for me. I’ve ripped too many of the PL brand ones because I tend to like chunky embellishments and it’s tough to squeeze them into the pockets. I really do try to keep my pocket pages pretty simple. It doesn’t always happen, but it’s thought that counts for me LOL!! I am trying to get caught up after all… eh’em….
Another thing I’ve been working on lately is using the papers in my stash. This can definitely be a challenge though because by the time I have a couple papers left in a collection or some larger scraps to work with, most or all of the coordinating embellishments have been used up. Adding those little details are what I absolutely love to do and that’s when I reach for the unique embellishments from the Scrap Shopright here! Whether it’s cork, sequins, felt die cuts or another fun embellishment, I always have something thats just right.
Below, I’ve added the Chunky Cork Hearts to the bottom middle pocket and really love the contrast and texture they add. They have the perfect earthy feel that works well with all the colors on the page.
Thanks so much for stopping in today! I hope you’ve enjoyed my back to school spread today. If you’re interested, I’ve linked the products from my Scrap Shop below.
Hello everyone! Jody here today with a layout share & a little Design Team sneak peak!! First up, my layout. These last several weeks have been crazy busy for me which led me to create my first creative group on Facebook. It’s called “15 Minutes 2 Scrap” and it’s deticated to carving out time in our busy lives to breathe and create, even if it’s just for 5 minutes. This is seriously the only way I get anything done these days between working full time outside my home, family priorities, building our new home, running my small business & managing whatever else life throws my way. Sometimes all I need is 5 or 10 minutes to decompress by crafting a little. That’s exactly how this layout came together over a few days. 5 minutes at a time! I used some Webster’s Pages paper & stickers from my stash, Chic Tags & Studio Calico wood veneers, Recollections Kraft heart stickers, Pink Paislee white rubber title “travel” and a Kraft heart from American Crafts.
I also positioned a tiny yellow heart sticker in the middle of our youngest daughter Abby and my “Pa” right onto my photo. I love doing this on photos at times, like in this case to show a special relationship. I love the look of natural Kraft with these muted colors in the papers. It’s just bold enough to stand out but it’s not overbearing. Thanks so much for stopping by tonight! I hope you were inspired to try this combo sometime. Feel free to join the Facebook group by clicking HERE! I’d love to see you over there! Lastly, here’s a peak at a few projects submitted by my new Sparklers Design Team! Can you name the designers??
See you soon! Design Team reveal will be the week of January 17th!! Get ready to be wowed!!
Hey there! Jody here today with a quick layout to share. I started with the lovely Crate Paper Craft Market papers and layered with vellum, a cute mini paper bag and a couple other goodies. This layout came together quickly with only a few embellishments added on top 🙂 The photo is of our daughter, Sari, in her favorite bonnet from Old World Wisconsin. We’ve gone there twice over the summer and want to go back before the weather gets cold again. We LOVE that place! I took the photo at our land in September… by the way, the building process for our new home is underway! We now have a driveway and will break ground within the next couple weeks!!! So excited!!
Ok, focus Jody LOL…. I added a Heidi Swapp Minc card “Be You Tiful” and framed it with a piece of Cocoa Vanilla ephemera frame. I also used up some Allison Kreft chipboard buttons & Pink Paislee white rubber arrows from the Artisan Collection.
I think my favorite part of this layout is how fast is came together, about 20 minutes!! It really does pay to scrapbook in short amounts of time. It forces to me to not putz around with things so much and just get my memories documented. Here are a few more close-ups!
