Baby Shower Gift

Hey y’all!, Ali here! It is stitching week! Yippee!! I absolutely love stitching on layouts, either hand stitching or machine stitching, I just love the detail and depth it adds to a layout. This week I decided to take stitching to a different project, and make a baby shower gift for a good friend. I know she is decorating the nursery with grey, teals, and yellows and the main focus will be giraffes. So I wanted to make a cute piece of home décor for her to put in her nursery!

I started with the giraffe. I found a cute clip art image of a giraffe and printed it out. The hardest part of this project is assembling the giraffe. I picked out the patterned papers I wanted to use, and got to cutting! I cut out each piece of the giraffe and then glued him together!

After I added a bit of water color to my background, I adhered the assembled giraffe. Then…the fun part, stitching! I use a paper piercer and simply go around the image exactly where I want to stitch. When all of my holes are made, I watch TV! Well, I watch TV and stitch! This project took me about an hour to complete (or three episodes of Young and Hungry).

TIP-New to stitching on paper? I know it can be intimidating, I was super nervous the first few times I did it too. I also would get really frustrated when my embroidery floss would get tangled and knotted. Then I discovered a super sweet trick, beeswax. If you pull your thread through beeswax before you start stitching, it holds together and never knots up on you. I didn’t have any beeswax on hand the first time I did this, I had used all of mine for lotion bars. So I just used the lotion bar which is mostly beeswax with a little lavender. So my thread smells lovely and doesn’t make me frustrated-win, win!

Now, for me, no project is complete without sequins! The brand new Ferris Wheel sequins were absolutely perfect for this project, they went with the color scheme and the different sizes and shapes add just the right amount of detail without taking away from the focus (his name and the giraffe).

A simple frame, and voila! This makes a great little gift for a baby shower!

I love how this little project turned out, and I hope the happy mom-to-be will love it too!

Add some sequins to your next project! Be sure to grab up those new releases, they are amazing and I bet they will go fast!!!

For my layout today, I wanted to steer away from plain white American Crafts cardstock or a patterned paper.  I really wanted to use the brand spankin’ new Paige Evans Take Me Away collection with Pink Paislee so I decided to compliment it with starting with lavender American Crafts cardstock from my stash.
@pinkpaislee @paigeevans @americancrafts @amytangerine @shimmerzpaintz @spiegelmomscraps @jodyspiegehoff, #spiegelmomscraps #shimmerzpaints #sequins #felt #diecuts #stitching #handstitching #paigeevans #takemeaway #pinkpasileeI added some gorgeous Shimmerz Dazzlerz in Licorice using an older Amy Tangerine stencil and just love the contrast!!  I added a thin layer so it would dry faster.  Then I had the idea to use my Kaisercraft metal dies as a stitching template.  I positioned my metal heart die around my layout in three spots and used my paper poker to poke the holes for my hand stitching.  It really didn’t take that long with stitch the hearts as they weren’t very big and I only used white embroidery thread.  I added the two shades of grey Heart Felties in a few areas around my layout, especially nearby and touching the stitched hearts.  I love to have similar embellishments touch and overlap.  I feel it’s very interesting in a layout.

Another one my favorite things to do so that I don’t waste any Shimmerz products is use the stencil as a stamp after I’ve used it as a stencil.  Hang in there and follow what I’m sayin’!!  After I used my Amy Tangerine triangle stencil to create the black triangles shown above, there is still some Dazzlerz leftover on my stencil, right?  So, instead of just wiping it off, I turned the stencil over and stamp that leftover Dazzlerz down right onto the bottom right corner of my layout.  It leaves a pretty cool effect!!

I’m so grateful you stopped by today!!  I hope you’ve enjoyed my layout, featuring some fabulous Heart Felties!!  Be sure to leave a comment on all the blogs today and throughout the weekend! There’s another chance everyday this weekend to win another $10 shop credit!!

Now, you’re on to the amazing Missy Whidden!!  Enjoy her beautiful work my friends!
