Hello and Happy Sunday!! This is Megan here to share my very first post for SpiegelMom Scraps. I am so excited to share this layout with you using some awesome products from the store!!
I thought it would be fun to do a weekly Scraplift on the Sundays that I post and for this first one I picked a layout I saw on pinterest posted by D’lish Scraps and made by Sue Plumb.
I absoluetly loved the layers and mixed media! It’s so gorgeous!
Here’s my layout with all of my little tweaks and personality thrown in:
I really love how it turned out! I wanted to make it my own layout so instead of using a stencil on the background I decided to use my purple Amethyst Heidi Shine and the packaging technique with some water.
I love this photo of a dog we had a long time ago. There was a little space to the right of the photo so I decided to put the title there and one of my embellishment clusters. Behind the photo I have a medium glassine bag that I spread ‘I Lilac You’ Dazzlers paste onto to get a cool effect on. I layered a 6×6 pattern paper from the Fancy Free collection behind that and then a large glassine bag that I spread ‘Coral me Crazy’ Dazzlers onto. I really like the texture the Dazzlers add to the bags!
I really wanted to use these Birds of a Feather Felties and I really liked the long skinny one that I decided to use to help ground my title. I clustered the others around and layered them on top of each other.
Hi Folks! Laura here today to share some recent ATC’s…
ATC’s – or artists trading cards – are usually small pieces of art (64mm x 89mm) swapped between artists. Rather than working on a small scale to begin with I work on a larger sheet to make my mixed media backgrounds. For me this is just playing with watercolours or Shimmerz, acrylics, modelling pastes etc until something starts to form. Then when I get an idea, I follow it!
Happy NSD! It’s Laura and I am interrupting the celebrations to share my regular Saturday post with you – but don’t worry – it is a layout!
I’ve been experimenting with the white felt feathers. I wanted to know if they would take colour – they do! I sprayed the feathers with water and sprinkled on some brusho powders. I needed a lot of water to get the colour moving but I love the results. Now I know I can alter any of the white felt shapes to any colour to match whichever project I am working on.
I dyed these ones to match my budgie’s feathers – yellows, greens and a little blue in the long tail feather. The different sized yellow sequins in the Spring Blooms and Sunny Smiles mixes match in perfectly. Other than that I kept it fairly simple layering each feather over a piece of cotton ribbon tape and stitching with my sewing machine to attach to the layout.
I added my alphas directly to my photo and popped up the top of each letter with a little silicone glue. I love the extra dimension this gives the page.
This also fits the criteria for my challenge to you over the weekend – scrap a layout with ribbon. If you do you can join us at SpiegelMom Scraps facebook page to link up!
Hello Chaps! Laura here to day sharing a mini canvas with you…
The canvas is around 10 cm square, so it’s quite a diddy little thing. Perfect for sitting on a desk or bedside table. It is packed with texture from the stencil work, the dimpled canvas, felt and sequins.
I pushed a thick layer of modelling paste through a stencil and then used water colour bars to add colour. I hand wrote a Bible verse and cut each word out individually. As it is stuck over the textured background it leaves lovely shadows adding depth to the piece.
I decorated with pink sequins and a gorgeous blue feather. In all it took 25 minutes of work to make – it was done in 5 minute sessions with drying time in between. Mixed media needn’t be big, messy, time consuming or scary!
I wanted these felt feathers to be the star in these cards, so I used only minimal supplies. The sentiments are from Mama Elephant Fair Feathers, which I heat-embossed in gold on acetate film. I blended Tumbled Glass distress ink behind the feathers to create a halo for visual interest.
I had so much fun creating these two cards and playing with the pretty feathers! You can pretty much use these feathers on anything, so make sure you go grab yours right now at the SpiegelMom Scraps Shop before they are sold out! Here I used the Pink and Aqua feathers, but any color will work. Well, I hope you enjoy today’s dose of inspiration!
Happy Holidays everyone!! We hope your season has been filled with goodness and of course, lots of crafty time!! This month the Sparklers Design Team, Tuesday’s Talent~Sarah McClellan and I have an inspiration filled blog hop for you. Grab your favorite hot beverage (if you’re freezing like we are in the Midwest) and relax while you tour our blogs.
It’s been a wonderful year and I’ve been working hard to bring you some fabulous new products. One of the favorites are my new Birds of a Feather Felties!! These beauties are die cut from a high quality wool felt and perfect for embellishing your scrapbook pages, cards, Project Life spreads and more!! Here’s a look at the debut colors before I show you my layouts today. Check out this little gallery for the new goodies!
Ok, now for my blog hop layouts!! For my first layout, I attached a few different colors ofBirds of a Feather Feltiesusing my Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher and tacky glue. I also think running them through the sewing machine would be fabulous!! The other brand new felt die cuts are my Cloudy Days Felties. I love their soft fluffiness.
These photos were taken in October when our youngest daughter met my Nana in Florida for the first time. They met on Nana’s 85th birthday and it couldn’t have been more special for us all! I used Dear Lizzy Serendipity collection papers, along with various other embellishments.
Here are a couple close ups so you can really see the beautiful texture of the felt feathers and the cork hearts.
My next layout is a blast from the past, 4 years ago to be exact. This photo was taken when Abby was only 2 weeks old and crying the entire time we tried to take this photo. The other four girls are truly being troopers here! I used Elle’s Studio papers and cut apart pieces to create the layout.
I knew I wanted to create a couple windows in the layout somewhere and decided to make one on the top and one on the bottom of the red patterned paper section. I used a 2 inch circle punch. To make my shaker/type windows I knew I had to create some dimension and lift the red patterned paper off the main background. To do this, I mounted several pieces of basic craft foam on the back. This is what the backside of the this section looks like… a hot mess right! The red pieces are the craft foam, which is what I’ve been using to add larger areas of dimension onto my cards and layouts. I learned this cost effective trick from Jennifer McGuire, love that girl! I adhered the craft foam with Scotch two sided tape, as my tape runner didn’t work well on the spongy surface. Next, I created my sequin pocket with the actual sequin packaging I use for my products. This is a great way for you to reuse many kinds of packaging items for various manufactures. Give it a try!
This is my next favorite thing on this layout. I heat embossed this lovely wood veneer from Heidi Swapp with my favorite gold embossing powder; Ranger, Liquid Platinum. It’s not a bright, harsh gold. It’s soft and beautiful.
Wow! I hope you all enjoyed the Holiday Happiness Blog Hop kick off here and have been inspired to do some creating this month!
