Hi friends! It’s Karla here today with a fun birthday layout for this week’s theme on the SpiegelMom Scraps blog – ‘Scrapbook a Birthday You Normally Wouldn’t’! Well, since it was recently Canada’s 150th birthday, I thought I’d use this opportunity to scrapbook Canada Day! I grabbed the Honor Guard, Be True 2 You and My Clementine sequin mixes to match with my photos and the papers I was using. I really love mixing and matching the amazing colours in each sequin mix! I love the iridescent colours in the My Clementine mix – when I put it on my paper it took on a beautiful green. And the Honor Guard has a gorgeous red – perfect for 4th of July and Canada Day, but also wonderful for any time you need a pop of red colour!
I used the awesome Strong & Free collection from Wild Whisper and grabbed some of their 4×6 and 3×4 cards as well as some of the patterned paper from the 12×12 sheets. I layered some of the diecut and cork (linked below) and stamped a date. Now, I don’t know about you, but I can NEVER get those date stamps to work right the first time, lol! So, I just roll with it and make it look like I meant for it to look like that 😉 The maple leaf journaling card was beautiful, but of course I love adding a few sequins to make it shine!
This fun Happy Birthday cutfile and the ones I used above are FREE HERE, along with lots of other awesome cutfiles! I used a gold pen to colour in the flames and add an ombre effect to the letters. The secret to getting the files down in the right spot after you cut them is to lay the negative cut down and then glue in your cuts. After, you simply pull up the negative frame. I used a border strip from the Wild Whisper papers and added a row of sequins with Glossy Accents. A few more of the cutfiles layered over top and a little maple leaf tag hanging on some SpiegelMom Scraps Hunter Green burlap string completes this card!
Here’s a look at the SpiegelMom Scraps sequin mixes I used today – Honor Guard, Be True 2 You and My Clementine! You can find the SpiegelMom Scraps Hunter Green burlap string in the store as well. The cork embellishments will be discontinued from the shop, but you can check out what is still available HERE!

Hello friends! Karla here today with one last retro card in keeping with our theme this month – Take It Back June! I wanted to do a masculine card today, and I love playing around with Distress Oxide Inks and Distress Inks so I decided to start with an inky tag. I used sequins from the Evergreen Bough and Free Spirit sequin mixes to embellish the card. I love choosing sequin colours based on my backgrounds – even mixing and matching different mixes!
Here’s a look at the fun background I created on this tag using my Distress Inks and Oxides by smooshing them on a craft mat, spritzing with water and then dabbing the tag in the ink several times. I used my sponging tool to add a little colour over top of everything, holding a film stencil in place while inking with brown Distress Ink. I love the effect dripping water on top adds at the end!
I used some of my favourite Burlap String from the SMS shop! I added it to the top of the tag and then used it to tie on a wooden button. For a background paper I chose this fun 3D glasses print from the 6×6 For The Boys paper pad from Your Next Stamp. I love the way the film strip stencil, the glasses and the TV all tie together!
I added Emerald Creek Weathered Wood embossing powder to the edges of my focal image as well as inside the card on the beautiful stamped sentiment from Your Next Stamp.
I added a couple awesome Cork Confetti Chevron Arrows to the bottom left of the card to finish it off!

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope you have a very crafty Thursday!
I get these ideas sometimes… they come from seemingly nowhere and won’t leave me until I’ve made it into a tangible project. This latest idea was to create a watercolour wild meadow with dandelion cut files on top. I searched all the usual places and even asked my favourite designer if she had anything. She had one but it wasn’t what was in my head!
So I doodled my own, took a photo and made it into a cut file. It is not perfect, and it is NOT easy to get off the cutting mat but I got enough off to make it work for me…
I joined 3 together with a simple stitch and then got to work on my background. I used my watercolour palette which is full of Daniel Smith watercolours. A little experimenting told me the Azo Nickel Yellow and Kyanite Genuine mix together to make a wonderful green. I added plenty of splatters – it’s my ‘thing’!
As I was looking through my sequin stash the colour of my cork embellishments caught my eye. The went with the natural creamy-white watercolour paper and the hues of green perfectly. I pulled out Wedding Bells, Strawberry Bubblegum and Cork Confetti in chevrons and butterflies.I get the rest very simple; the dandelion heads and painting were enough for me. I added a simple layer of vellum to the photograph and chose a flair as my title. I added a sprinkle of my sequins and a couple of butterflies. I used the chevrons to direct the eye towards the title.
Thanks for stopping by today,
Hey there crafty friends! Karla here today, and I’m super excited to be Guest Designing here today- what an honor! Today, I’m sharing a layout that I made of my youngest daughter, Erica, when she was just a year old. Wow – time flies – she’s now almost 5!
I started off choosing a sketch and layered on papers and stickers from the Echo Park Petticoats and Pinstripes collection by Lori Whitlock. I just love these lovely bright papers, and the pretty sequins from the Pinky Pie, Spring Blooms and Let’s Be Mermaids Sequin Mixes from the SpiegelMom Scraps Shop were the perfect embellishments! I love using a sketch as a starting point, then choosing my photos, papers and embellishments.
These wonderful Cork Chevrons are so awesome for layering! I pulled out some paper ephemera diecuts from a My Mind’s Eye All Things Girl package to add to my layout. I love the vintage feel of these diecuts!
I used the tiny silver stars from the Pinky Pie collection on this pretty crown, which I layered over a sticker from the EP collection pack. I added some handwritten journaling and stamped the date with an Amy Tan date stamp. I love that a lot of the paper packs come with coordinated journaling cards in them. Even if I choose not to use them in a pocket page, they are great to use on a layout!
These sweet little flower sequins in the Pinky Pie Sequin Mix were just perfect to layer on the flower sticker. They are subtle and add a pretty shine! You can see some of the stitching that I added across my page. Erica was very excited to #1 – have another layout of her own baby pics and #2 – help me with the stitching!
Here’s a look at the beautiful embellishments I used on my layout, which you can find at the SpiegelMom Scraps Shop
