Hello again! I am back with my last post as the October guest designer and for today’s layout I am focusing on the gorgeous Sugar Maple sequins. I fell in love with these the moment that I saw them and really wanted to create a page showcasing these gorgeous sequins.
To begin, I stitched in messy circles on cardstock in gold thread. Once I decided where my photo and the large embellishment cluster would be placed, I the sequins around the stitching making sure to space out the various colors. To adhere the sequins I used Ranger Multi Matte Medium on the smaller sequins and glue dots on the leaves.
Glorious Days Vibez is a gorgeous shade of gold and was the perfect addition on the page. I sprinkled a bit on the background and the die cuts to add further depth to the page.
If you are interested I have linked my process video below. In the video I tell more about the process as well as the story behind the photo. Thanks again for joining me today and special thanks to Jody for having me as the October guest designer. Have a wonderful day!
Hello and welcome to this month’s Sparklers Design Team sequin release blog hop! Whew, that was kind of a mouth full! I’m extra excited this month because DT Sparkler Lisa Kingston had a beautiful vision, and that was to create some sequin mixes inspired by some of her favorite artwork! So naturally I said, “Go for it!” I must say, she’s done a fabulous job on these mixes, which are shown below my layout 🙂
Here’s my layout created with some of my favorite American Crafts cardstock, a stunning copper embossed floral paper from an American Crafts collection, Shimelle phrase thickers (hello and lovely),Shimmerz Quit Yer Winen’, and the fabulous new On Pointe sequin mix (only I picked out all the little metallic copper ones!!) I did a ton of fussy cutting for this, obviously. I cut out every flower from that stunning coppery embossed paper and it was SSSOOO worth it! I did some light mixed media work on the background, using the muted purplish Shimmerz Quite Yer Winen‘. I added some dark purplish tread in a few spots and called it good! I also used the sketch below by Stuck Sketches?! as my jumping point!! I love the diagonal design.
Below are the pieces of artwork which inspired Lisa to choose the sequin colors . All of this month’s sequins are above and the inspiration pairings are just below!
Now here’s you Sparklers Design Team line up for this hop!
Now off you go to check out the DT’s fabulous projects!! The blog hop is open through Saturday night and after that I’ll pick a random winner from the comments on the blogs. The winner will get all the new September sequins!!!
Thank so much for being here! Hop on over to Sara, who also has Raquel as a her guest!
And by the way, I heard my YouTube squad might have a playlist for ya!! You can that out here.
Hello friends!! Karla here today with an emoji layout using the awesome Free cutfiles on the blog and the Gotta Love Emoji sequin mix! Our theme this week is Emoji Love, so I definitely wanted to scrap these cute pics of my daughter playing dress up. I added some Cork Confetti Stars and Chunky Hearts to my page as well. If you love these hearts and stars as much as I do, you’re going to want to stock up! They are being discontinued to make room for fun new things coming and won’t be restocked.
I used some Shimelle Starshine papers, Pink Paislee Take Me Away ephemera and little metal clips from my stash and followed along with the sketch from the Creative Scrapbooker Magazine July Sketchy Challenge. I love cutting pieces from doilies and tucking them behind my photos! You can find similar ones in the SMS Store HERE.
Before I print my photos, I save them in the Project Life App as 3×4’s and try to add a bit of journaling on the cards in the app. I find it definitely helps me remember those little moments that I might otherwise forget. Then, I can slip them into pocket pages or make a scrapbook layout with them and my journaling is complete.
After I diecut this sentiment, I left the paper and the diecut letters on the mat and used my Distress Inks and Distress Oxides to sponge colour in an ombre effect before removing them. I stamped the Sweet sentiment from a Your Next Stamp cling stamp and fussy cut around it before gluing it down.
Hello and Welcome! This is my attempt at a “Make it Yours” Monday. I’m not so great at the themes. But this project just so happens to fit perfectly because I scraplifted a combination of an old project by me, here + some inspiration by Suse Fish.
I started with a white cardstock background, used washi tape as a vertical barrier, and painted thick horizontal stripes using “In the Navy” Acri-Tonez by Shimmerz from the shop. In case you’re in need of a technique for these magical paints – here you go. Make a simple striped background and you’ll be very happy with the results 😉
I chose to use gold polka-dot patterned vellum over the non-stripe side of the cardstock. I love the shine it adds. I used Indigo Hills by Pinkfresh Studio patterned paper to cover the seam between the paint and the vellum.
On this layout I used embellishments from that same Pinkfresh Studio collection, Crate Paper Gather, and flair from Accent Scrapbooking.
All of these products pair so well with the Pandora’s Ombre sequin mix. But I also debated on using this one too.
So, my challenge to you: Pick an Acri-Tonez and paint a bold background. Happy crafting!
Happy Ground Hogs’ Dag!! Jody here today. Although I don’t take much stock in a ground hog determining whether or not I continue to freeze my butt off, it’s still a cute yearly tradition here in the U.S!!
Today, I’m sharing a layout I literally put together in 20 minutes!! We all need layouts like these for busy, busy times! I shared a couple sneaks of this on the SMS Instagram a few weeks ago and today I’m excited to share it with you all. I started with a FREE cut file (found on the Free Cut Files page here) cut out on American Crafts white cardstock and paper from Pink Paislee/Paige Evans, Take Me Away. I chose the Flurries Background cut file I designed and simply layered it over my Pink Paislee paper. I added a Chantilly Lacy 8 inch doily, some Pretty Little Studio Hello Heather papers and my photo, then adhered that onto my background. I also added some craft foam under my photo to pop it up a little.
One other tidbit I’d like to share is my struggle to actually use cut files! Crazy right?! My scrap studio is no longer in the room, or even the same floor as my computer which causes a problem obviously. So, to solve this dilemma I have been cutting files while I’m doing other things at my computer like checking email, working on taxes (UGH help me now LOL), etc. It’s pretty easy to get my cut file set up cut, and then let it run while I’m working on other tasks. I just wanted to share that with you all since I’m sure I’m not the only one that faces challenges like this. So now, I have several different cut file background and others ready to go whenever I want to sneak away for 10 minutes to create in my space!!
I simply added my title, which are cardboard Thickers from American Crafts (maybe from Dear Lizzy or Amy Tan??) and Foam Thickers from the Pink Paislee Take Me Away collection. Finally I sprinkled some Amore sequins in a few areas. I called it good in 20 minutes you guys!!
Thanks so much for stopping by today!! I hope you are inspired to pre-cut some background cut files and have them ready to go for creating some super quick layouts!!
Remember, there a couple very cool things going on this month! First, we have our team up with Accent Scrapbooking! The Sparklers hopped yesterday so be sure to check that out if you missed it! Kareen from Accent Scrapbooking and I also hosting a month long challenge group over on Facebook. The group can be found HERE you guys!! Join the group and check out all the inspiration! Kareen and I are giving away some awesome prizes!!! Check out the graphic below and have a great day!!
You can probably tell by my layouts that I don’t have kids yet.. they generally only feature my husband and my dogs. I was inspired by this cozy picture of my husband and I to create a sweet layout just a few weeks early. Not to mention, there was a new sequin mix that I had fun plans for.
I knew I wanted to use strips of paper in combination with some paint streaks to create a vertical backdrop for my picture. I used a thick brush to paint the yellow and teal stripes. Once they dried, I chose the patterned paper + vellum I wanted to use too. I went with that bold paper from Dear Lizzy’s Saturday collection and paired it with some smaller patterned paper from my stash.
Once I had my paper in place I determined where I wanted my stitched sequin lines to go. This accent was my vision behind the entire layout! I used sequins from the shop (here + here). You can use this technique with any sequins as long as you adhere them down first. I think stitching over sequins creates a great finished look.
Once I had done this, I matted my picture on white and began playing around with my placement. I knew I wanted my picture to pop well and all of my embellishments to carry the vertical trend. Most embellishments are AC thickers
I combined some alphas with “loved” to create my title and added a few white heart felties. I wanted to balance out the bright colors of the background with something more subtle.
I really love how this project turned out! I’m so happy with my decision to use a 9 x 12 project life album so 12 x 12 papers can easily be cut down and used for layouts like these. I hope you’ll try stitching some sequins. Thanks for stopping by!
P.S. You don’t want to miss our HUGE product swap blog hop tomorrow!
Hello friends! Welcome back! Sadly, this will be my last post. I have loved being a member of this amazing team and I will continue to use the amazing Spiegelmom Scraps products. Today I am sharing a 12×12 layout. I am using one of this months free cut files. I decided to shrink it down and printed it 5 times.
Hello friends! Katty here. I am extremely behind on my December Daily this year. I’m so glad I was finally able to get started. Today I am sharing Days 1-3. I have made a double 6×6 page spread. Since days 2 and 3 were very uneventful I was able to fit all three days in this double page spread.
I began with two matching pieces of patterned paper which I cut down to 6×6. They are red with white polka dots. For my left side layout I wanted to welcome back our Elf on the Shelf Buddy. I added some teal patterned paper to the bottom half. I also used a fiskars scalloped border punch with American Crafts white textured cardstock and some teal glitter tape to separate the two patterns. I added a lovely White Lace Paper Doily behind my photo of my Elf Buddy which I made round with a circle punch.
I added half circle stickers to the top and bottom of the page and I embellished with Chunky Cork Hearts and white flat back sequins from a retired mix which can also be found in the Happy Dance Mix.
I used white Freckled Fawn puffy alpha stickers to write out my tittle. My numbers for each day are also from Freckled Fawn and I embossed them with white embossing powder.
For the page on the right I used all of the same products. I also added a tag with some Red Bakers twine.
I printed some photos in black and white and some in color. I also added some blear phrase stickers from Recollections on one of the photos and over the patterned paper.
I’m really happy with how it turned out. Last years album was way too thick so I’m trying to find ways to slim it down this year and this seemed like a good option since there wasn’t much going on these three days.

Hello friends! Welcome back! Katty here to share a 12×12 layout with you all. I was inspired by this weeks sketch from Let’s Get Sketchy.
I started with White American Crafts textured cardstock. I decided switched it up a bit. I used one photo instead of two and rather than a full circle in the background I used a half circle cut file I purchased from JustNick. It has open florals and it is very pretty. I decided to use the Shimmerz Coloringz in Peachy Keen using the packaging technique behind the open flowers. I also added some splatters in the Peachy Keen as well as in the No Yoking. I then added a simple grey patterned paper behind my photo and placed a blue frame from the Cocoa Vanilla Life is Beautiful ephemera pack over the photo.
I sprinkled around the sequins from the 2 Cool 4 U sequin mix. I also added a yellow sequin to the centers of each flower. I used a few other pieces from the Life is beautiful ephemera pack. I even used one of the pieces, the word “Happy” as my tittle.
Hello friends! Katty here to share another layout with you all. This week it’s a double page spread. We continue our team up this month with Let’s get Sketchy. This weeks awesome sketch is the second one by our very own Sara.
I decided instead of one large photo in the center and lots of paper squares that I would use lots of small square photos. This was the perfect opportunity to scrap all of the photos of flowers that I took on my trip to Hawaii this past Summer. I had so many photos that this turned into a double page spread. I matted all of the photos on black cardstock and my background is 12×12 White American Crafts Textured Cardstock. I also used the textured cardtock and cut out some small flowers on my Silhouette Cameo. I also cut out the outline of the flowers. The outlines I left white but the flowers I colored using a bunch of the Shimmerz Paints Mists. I used two colors on each flower. Then I glued the outline on top.
For my tittle I used a mix of thickers and some Rub ons from the My Minds Eye On Trend 2 collection. I kept my embellishing very simple, I added a few arrow stickers from the We R Memory Keepers Urban Chic collection.
Here is a side by side look of the sketch and the layout. I love that it has a whimsical touch.

Hello friends! Katty here! This month we are teaming up with the Let’s get Sketchy Team. Were going to be swapping sketches. This week as well as next week we are working with sketches created by our very own Sara. Here is this week’s awesome sketch.
I also added the awesome Flutter Cork Butterflies on top of some of the punched out ones. I punched out some navy blue butterflies and also matted my photo with the same navy cardstock. For my background, I used a blue patterned paper from the Cocoa Vanilla Love Always collection. I also used two strips of patterned paper on the right hand side also from the Love always collection. I then embellished with the Cocoa Vanilla Life is Beautiful ephemera pack.
For my tittle I used the word “Sweet” from the ephemera pack and the “Baby Girl are the thickers from the Pinkfresh Studio Indigo Hills collection.
Hello friends! Katty here to share another 12×12 layout with you all. I am scrapbooking a selfie I took while on a weekend trip to the Island of Bimini. It was actually an island off of Bimini and there are tons of Manta Rays just swimming around. It was very cool!
I began my layout with a Prima scallop circle stencil and the Dazzlers in Sea U in the morning. I used the stencil on the top center of a White American Crafts cardstock and created a mirror image on the bottom portion of the page. I then took a circle punch and punched out different patterns from the Pink Paislee Paige Evans Take me away collection. I cut the circles in half and placed them inside my scallop circles.
I added a few sheets of patterned paper layered behind my photo. I also added vertical strips of one of the Pink 12×12 papers from the collection on either side of the page. I also added two coordinating wash tapes to either side. I used the blue and yellow sequins from the Hot Right Now Sequin Mix. I randomly placed them on top of the scallop half circles.
I added a few ephemera pieces from the Pinkfresh Studio Indigo Hills and used the Indigo Hills navy thickers to create part of my tittle. The rest of my tittle was created using pink letter stickers from the Basic Grey B-side collection.
I used one of the 6×6 papers from the Take me Away Collection which had different colored stripes and I cut out the stripes. I added them in between my scallop circles. I wanted to add some of the lovely Cloudy Days Felties. I clustered them in two areas and colored some of them using the Shimmerz Vibez in Blue Jeans.
I also added some ink splatters with the Blue Jeans Mist. I also added some turquoise thread behind my clouds and on the left side of my photo.
I love how this turned out. There is a process video on my Youtube channel if you’d like to watch: https://youtu.be/-rYBg-X5ims
Last week I got a shipment of really gorgeous fall colored Shimmerz products from the shop. I knew immediately I wanted to use them on some Hip Kit Club leafy cut files. Above is how they turned out.. so gorgeous! But they sat there piled on my desk for a week without any direction. I soon remembered that I had felt challenged to use a black background for an upcoming layout. And so it went… The leaves were inked/painted/splattered with these Shimmerz products: Vibez Egg Noggin’ + Texturez Mari-Gold Digger + Coloringz Moody Mauve + Dazzlers Coral Me Crazy*You can use coupon code Rachel15 at checkout to get a discount on these products!
Hint: I left the cuts on my Silhouette mat as I painted (and used my heat gun to dry each layer) to help prevent curling.
To begin my layout I backed my photo with a glassine bag and some ephemera from the Gather collection. I knew I wanted to mix in the leaves included in the ephemera pack to balance out the colorful painted ones. After I played around with placement a little, I stitched all of the leaves in place. I then added a few Thickers from Pink Paislee’s Take Me Away collection – including my title. Underneath the heart I bunched up some string for a little dimension. The “happy place” chipboard is also from the Gather collection. I love how it looks on top of that postcard ephemera. To finish off my layout, I added a few gold embellishments.
I love fall so much! I really can’t get enough of colors that remind me of this changing season. I hope you’ll challenge yourself on a project soon! Thanks for stopping by.
Hello friends! Katty here to share another 12×12 layout with you all. For this layout I began with American Crafts white Textured cardstock. I used a Craters Workshop stencil with some Gloss Medium to create the background. The gloss medium creates a resist effect. I then took several colors of Gelatos and smudged on circle shapes with my finger until I created a pattern I was happy with.
Hello friends! Katty here to share another 12×12 layout with you all. I am scrapbooking a few photos of my younger son in our backyard playing soccer. He is currently obsessed with soccer. He has to play at least a little bit every day. These shots were taken a few weeks ago with my iPhone. They are a bit blurry thats why I didn’t print them bigger. I just want them to tell the story.
I began with American Crafts White textured cardstock. I used a stencil by the crafters workshop called Mod Checkerboard. I sprayed the center of the stencil with one of my lovely Shimmerz Coloringz Sprays in the color Heidi Ho Blue and I also used my Shimmerz Dazzlers in Gummy Berry Blue. I then used a square punch and punched out my 4 photos. I then scattered those around the stencil work to create my design. I also took some black and yellow patterned papers in black and yellow and punched out some squares in two sizes and then layered them on top of each other. I scattered those around as well. I added some soccer balls and words from a Rub on sheet. I love how they look. Especially since I have a hard time with very themed embellishments.
I then added black ink splatters in two areas of my layout. I pulled out the lovely Cloudy Days Felties in two sizes and painted the smaller ones with the Heidi Ho Blue Shimmerz Spray. As a finishing touch I added a few circle chipboard embellishments from MAMBI and I matted the whole layout on a black and white diagonal striped Patterned Paper from Simple stories.
I am very happy with how this turned out. There is a process video on my Youtube channel if you’d like to watch: https://youtu.be/y1K6mryN3dI
