Create an Easy December Mini Book!

First of all… welcome to my new blog and website!!!  I’ll be adding more features in the upcoming weeks.  You’ll find the site navagation bar at the bottom of the page.

I said easy & I meant it!  Here’s what you do to create a simple 6″x6″ mini book, for any occasion.  I’m using my December Traditions Album to document some of the everyday things we do, like Black Friday shopping and putting up our tree right after.  St. Nick also visits our home and brings us goodies and a Christmas movie or two.

For this mini album, start with a couple 12″x12″ pieces of patterned paper.  I used double sided paper with a side I loved and a side I didn’t love.  I cut my wood grain sheet of paper in half to create two 6″x12″ pieces for my album pages.  Next, score the 6″x12″ piece at the 6″ mark, then fold in half as shown below.  {You can click on the individual pictures below to make them bigger.}

The next pictures in the gallery show the insides of album pages that I covered with Fancy Pants Home For Christmas 6×6″ papers.  I covered the crossword puzzle side of the papers and left the wood grain side exposed.

After arranging the order of my pages, I punched holes with my Crop A Dile.  Metal book rings are a great way to put together mini albums, tags albums and more!  Then, let the fun began!! I added Studio Calico Wood Veneers, May Arts Burlap String, tags, glassine bags, Mr Hueys Spray Ink, Washi tapes and more!

Now that you can see how easy it is, create one for your December traditions this year!  As a special THANK YOU for stopping by today, I have a special deal for you.  Buy 3 washi tapes in my Etsy Shop and one FREE!!!  Just message me with your FREE WASHI choice.

You really can make time to scrapbook around the holidays, just keep it simple and scrap it!!

30% Off & More Ways to Use Wood Veneers this Holiday!

Well, that’s it.. I’m addicted ~ to Wood Veneers!!  And because of that addiction, I must find more ways to use them and bring those uses to YOU!!
So, for the second easy way to use them.. Make them part of a scene or use as a symbol on your card or other project.  On this card I used one of the Studio Calico Birds to reinfornce the PEACE sentiment.  The word PEACE surrounds us during the Holiday season and what better way to accent the meaning than with a Wood Veneer Dove (Birdie).

Another easy way to accent your Holiday cards is witha simple, pretty ribbon.  I used this 1inch Sheer Ivory Ribbon to make a simple bow around my banner.

Have a safe and wonderful Holidays!
I’ll keep the inspiration and special deals coming!!
You can also use coupon code THANKS30 for 30% off your entire purchase in my Etsy Shop through Christmas Eve.
Remember to mention the special promos whenever you make a purchase in my Etsy Shop so I know you visited me here.  These deals are not advertised elsewhere & are for YOU!

Ways to Use Wood Veneers on your Cards

Yes, you can use those super cute wood veneers on your handmade holiday cards!  They actually go through the mail just fine, from my recent experience.

Here are a couple easy ways to use them!  First, color them!

I used the Studio Calico Asterisks and a red Sharpie to color them.  Easy peasy!

I also made my own with a sheet of wood veneer I bought at Michael’s Craft Store last year. I removed the paper backing and cut it on my Cricut using the highest settings for pressure and deapth.  Not too shabby hey!  I also used my favorite May Arts Burlap String to finish it off.  I have the same wonderful May Arts Burlap String in Red available now too!

Here’s a special deal just for YOU!  Buy any 3 wood veneers in my Etsy Shop and get one roll of FREE WASHI TAPE, your choice of patterns/color!!  Just leave me a comment when you make your purchase so I know which FREE WASHI you’d like.

Jazz it up a quik Christmas card…

Well, I drifted from usual paper addition to create my card from this sketch from Sketch Support.  Much to my surprise, I fell in love with the lovely Teresa Collins Christmas Cottage and Fancy Pants Home for Christmas lines.
To jazz up this card, I embossed my background and added some Crystal Stickles to the maroon rows.  I added some of my favorites too, Studio Calico Wood Veneers & Crochet Trim.

I hope you take time out this season to create!  I know we’re all busy, myself included, but we all deserve it!
You can also do a little Black Friday shopping in my Etsy Shop!!  Buy 4 washi’s get 1 free, plus use coupon code HOLI15 for 15% off your whole order!!  Just convo me with which Washi Tape you’d like FREE!

Sketchy, Fast Holiday Cards

A little embossing and ribbon really go a long way to pretty-up this card.  The Sheer Ivory is 1 inch wide and the other must have ribbon is a 1/4 inch Brown Check.  These are ribbons I keep on hand and use for many different cards and other projects.

And here’s the sketch that made this holiday card oh, so, very fast and EASY!!  I’ll warn you, the spacing on the sketch placement is way too much, but I can’t fix it 🙁

Be back soon with more fast and easy holiday cards for you!

10% off Sale & some Holiday Card Inspiration for YOU!

Hello all! This month the Memory Works Design Team is crafting their hearts out to create 30 Cards in 30 Days! I hope you’re all gathering some festive inspiration during these first 7 days from the Memory Works Blog

Here’s one of my cards for this month.   My design is based on this sketch from Sketch Support.

I used a Kraft card stock base, Teresa Collins Christmas Cottage 6×6 Pad, Prima Flowers, Close To My Heart craft buttons, a sentiment die cut from my stash, Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Vintage Photo, ivory sheer ribbon and Burlap String. I also added some ‘stitching’ using my Tim Holtz Distress Marker in Picket Fence.

Get our your embossing folders ladies!  I used a swirly design to add some umph to the brown patterned paper, as well as some Picket Fence stitching.  Another tip~ curl up the ends of your banners to lift them off your card or scrapbook page.  You’ll love the dimension it adds!

I also love combining my favorite Burlap String with this Ivory Sheer Ribbon, both from May Arts & in my Etsy Shop

Clear craft buttons from CTMH anyone??  I DO, I DO!  Use your Ranger Glossy Accents to create your own custom buttons by backing them with coordinating papers and top them with Stickles!

I hope you’ve gathered some inspiration and start your holiday crafting soon!  My big creative weekend happens over Deer Hunter’s open weeking here in Wisconsin.  My hubby heads up north and my BFF comes down to play (with our papers and embellies of course!)

****10% off sale in my Etsy Shop through November 14th!****

Here’s where you can get the Burlap String!

Here’s where you can get the Ivory Sheer Lux Ribbon!

Easy HaLloWeEn Home Decor!

Happy Halloween everyone! I’m back today for some fabulous and easy Halloween home decor. But first, for those who are Trick or Treating tonight, be safe & have a fabulous time! And, always, always, check that candy before you dive in for that sugar rush. My brave husband is taking all 5 of our girls out while I’m working! So, all of you please wish him a big gOoD LuCk!!

As you saw earlier this month, I had Express Kit duty. This kit was completely jam packed with some fabulous Halloween and Fall papers from My Minds Eye (a personal fav). The large kit included papers from their Blackbird and Mischievous collections, along with coordinating stamps and chipboard. The key to creating with these very different collections from My Minds Eye, was to keep the separate collections grouped together. Blackbird papers with Blackbird Stamps and Mischievous papers with Mischievous Chipboard. You all know I love to mix and match different manufactures and collections, but sometimes it just doesn’t work.

So, here’s what I created with the Mischievous papers and Chipboard, along with the lovely ribbon and trim and small silver bottle caps! I also added a couple Jenni Bowlin Halloween Bingo Cards from my stash.

I hung the tag from the handle of the 7 Gypsies Photo Tray, but also placed a pumpkin in the space behind it to play some peak-a-boo with our kids. It’s easy and fun to make these 7 Gypsy Photo Trays a little interactive!

I also layered some of the chipboard shapes over their coordinating card stock pieces. This is a great to add some dimension to your projects without becoming overwhelming. I added some Stickles to the chipboard hat and the photo corners (positioned as arrows) for some spooky sparkle.

Thank you for joining me today! By the way, wasn’t the Fall Preview Blog Hop awesome yesterday!  So, tell me.. what was YOUR favorite new line after seeing the Design Team Projects yesterday?  If you missed it go HERE and start hopping on your own.

Memory Works will be announcing their winner sometime today.    After they do, I’ll announce mine!

Stay tuned & Happy Scrapping!

Making Halloween Home Decor From File Folders

File folders??  YES, file folders!  You just need to see them, then I’ll talk about them.

So… I’m on Express Kit duty this month for Memory Works.  Hopefully you stopped by last week for my Quick & Cute Halloween Cards post.  If not, click on the highlighted link to go there when you’re done.

For this project I used your regular sized file folders, only these were already orange and black.  You can easily paint or cover manilla ones with black cardstock or Halloween papers instead!!
Although my Express Kit was full.. I mean PACKED with an assortment of Halloween papers, I stuck with the My Minds Eye Blackbird theme for this project.  The kit also included the matching stamps.  See those cute spiders on the bottom tier.. YUP stamps!!

I used my go-to banner shapes, some bling from Michael’s Craft Store (HALLOWEEN), felt vines and pumpkins and left trees from Pebbles to complete my spooky, but welcoming, Halloween home decor!  Since I can’t put holes in my walls in our rental house, I used some black and orange plaid ribbon from May Arts to hang it from the blank half-wall where our stairs up to the second floor.  It works great to just masking tape the ribbon to the top of the banister so no one sees it. Well, now you know my dirty little secret, so SSHHHH!  LOL.

I’ll be back again soon for the Memory Works Fall Blog Hop on Tuesday!!  Be here so see the latest scrapbooking goodies available throught Memory Works NOW!!!

Quick & Cute Halloween Cards!

Hello my crafty ones!! Please excuse what seems to be my slacking… In reality I’ve been creating!

I’m on Memory Works Express Kit duty this month and it was totally packed with Halloween paper! A little much Halloween for me, but I’m not judging either!

Here are a couple quick cards for my Design Team projects. I used some embossing, sanding & inking to amp up these cute cards. A little really goes a long way on these simple cards.

The only supply I added outside the Express Kit is my FAV Burlap String found in my Etsy Shop.

I’ll be back soon with some file folders & home decor…. Got ya thinking right?!

Desktop Calendar Gift

Here’s what I’ve been working on. I started a few Christmas gifts, especially for Brad’s parents who have really helped us out since moving closer to them. I decided to make them a two sided desktop calendar where they can display some pictures of grandchildren & keep track of their days. I found these great 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ spiral bound, which are now available in my Etsy Shop.   They are 15 page, blank desktop beauties and thought they’d be perfect for calendars & many other projects.

I’m using the new My Minds Eye All Is Bright 6×6″ pad and the 4×6 Elements Pad as well. I also did some embossing and inked the edges with my Tim Holtz Distress Ink ~ Walnut Stain. The scalloped banners were created using my Fiskars scalloped circle punch and folding them in half.

Here’s a good view of the texture and the dimension on the page.

Then, I began looking for small printable calendars online. I found exactly what I needed at Calendar Labs. I printed the set I wanted on a 8 1/2″ x 11″ piece of Kraft cardstock and trimmed them down. These small calendars end up being 2″ by 2 9/16″. There are several different varieties to choose from and are free to download and print. They also open as a Word Document.

I also wanted to share a quick tip for adhering die cuts and other embellishments over ribbon, especially when it’s tied in a bow. First I tie my bow and position it where I want it on my project. Then I place pop dots around where the ribbon is laying and adhere them directly to the base of the project as shown below.

This makes is easy to adhere your element on top of the bow without bending it or squishing your bow. Try it out! I actually stacked two pop dots on top of each other for even more lift off the front page.
Those NEW 4″  French Lace Doilies are making their way into my Etsy Shop this week!  I have an early bird deal for YOU.  Instead of 20 doilies for $2.50, you’ll get 40 doilies for the same price!!  Make sure you convo me on Etsy prior to check out so I create your discount!

*** Just 2 weeks til the big UpCycle It crop!!  Do you have your registration in??  I hope so!  If you’re still thinking about coming, I just posted a special deal for Friday only ~ $15!!  Crop from 3pm til you drop and includes your welcome gift, snacks, make & take & door prizes!

Using Up Your Scraps!

Hola my scrappy friends!  I’m back to share a couple quick matching projects you can create in no time flat.. ok well, in an hour!

This month jumped on the My Minds Eye September Challege to “Make It Work”.  They based their challenge off Project Runaway and challenged us to create a card directly based off of our layout, using the same design elements, products, etc.  The card and layout must be a matching pair!!

Last week, I shared a couple layouts for Memory Works Creative Friday using the new MME Honey collection.  After creating last week, I wanted to use up every scrap of paper I could because, as you all know, I love My Minds Eye!

Here’s the matching layout & card with a gift card holder.

You can see that I repeated a few elements in both projects ~ the Studio Calico Wood Veneer Butterfly, ZVA Bling, glassine bags & doilies from My Etsy Shop, banners and of course the pretty MME Honey papers!

Details on the layout ~ I did some fussy cutting around the honeycomb paper and layered it over my 6×10″ piece of pink chevron paper.  I chose a couple pictures of Sari from her last day of 4K in June of this year.  I love how the blue headband really popped in the picture, so I colored 3 SC Wood Veneer Butterflies from my Etsy Shop with a Copic marker (any marker would be fine too).  I added some bling give the butterflies a flight path and positioned them across my layout.  I also ran my Glassine Bag through my Sizzix Texture Boutique to give it a small zig zag pattern to compliment the pink chevron paper.  I added a little Dear Lizzy Journaling Tag from her Neapolitain Collection (in my Etsy Shop too).    I finished it off with some fun yellow washi tape & Mr. Huey’s, also in my Etsy Shop 🙂

Now for the matching gift card holder and card ~ I used American Crafts white textured cardstock for my base and scraps left over from my previous layouts.  I also used a scrap of American Crafts Kraft cardstock for my gift card holder inside the Glassine Bag.  I wrapped a  3 1/2″ Doily around the side of my Glassine Bag and adhered with two sided tape.  I also wrapped a small shipping tag around and added some MME tiny words stickers and a piece of MME Washi tape.

Here’s a close up of the gift card holder. I layered a doily, some banners made with scraps of paper & a SC Wood Veneer Butterfly, along with and bling and word stickers.  Quick & easy!

And Ta-Da you’re done!  These took me about an hour to put together, give or take 10 minutes 🙂

I hope you enjoyed my projects today!  Many of the goodies I used today are ready to go in my Etsy Shop so stop in and shop with me!!   The new MME Honey collection is also available now throught me (via Memory Works). Use this coupon code for 10% your order in my Etsy Shop.  I ship wordwide and often.

Happy Scrappin!
