Scraplifting Kelly Barron with Karla

Hello! It’s Karla here today with a cute baby page, and I’m scraplifting the most awesome Kelly Barron! She’s been our Guest Designer here all month long, and I just love her style!! Here’s the page she designed and you can see my scraplifted layout below. All the info on her pretty page can be found on her blog post HERE.

Scrapbook Layout by Kelly Barron

I’m really trying to get more of Erica’s baby pics into her album, so I grabbed these cute (well I understand if not everyone finds them cute ūüėČ ) pics of her with food on her head. Yup, you know it’s true love when you can watch hours of your baby doing the same thing over and over and never get tired of it, or you see her with food on her head and, well, you just have to take a photo – or three, lol! Erica, who is 5 now, even helped me do the stitching across the corners with the sewing machine. I grabbed some of the new Lisa’s Starry Night and Morning Glow sequin mixes and the Gold Burlap String to coordinate with my page.

The older Echo Park Made From Scratch collection was just right for this page, and you can see how wonderfully the textured vintage Architextures potholder sticker from 7gyspies fits in with it!

I loved the way Kelly used some smaller stickers as part of her title and found some in my stash that would work for me too. I added another of the Architextures mason jar stickers alongside some stickers from the EP collection.

Scrapbooking With Karla – Scraplifting Katty Miranda!

Hello friends! It’s Karla here today with another awesome Scraplift! I am really loving the scraplifting theme this month. I’m finding new techniques and ideas that I wouldn’t normally have tried without scraplifting someone. This week the Design Team is scraplifting the awesome Katty Miranda! She’s so amazing!!

Here’s a look at her layout that I used to base my scrapbook page on-@kattymiranda #scraplift #scrapbooklayout

And, here’s what I created! I loved the diecut circle background, so I used the Kaisercraft Wildflower paper and Kaisercraft Nesting Stitched Circle Dies. I used some to cut the outside as well as the inside and used both the back and front side of the circles. This paper is so gorgeous, it’s sometimes hard to decide which side to use! I used one of the coordinating circle sticker elements ‘You Are Perfect” as a title, popped up with foam dots.

I used my sewing machine and stitched along both the top and bottom of my layout, alternating a couple different zigzag stitches with a straight stitch. I love the texture stitching adds!

The Tim Holtz Botanical ephemera was just perfect to add to this layout about my daughter at the Calgary Zoo where a butterfly landed on her hand. I used tacky glue and some foam dots to arrange the flowers and butterflies in a diagonal arrangment. I love the watercolour butterfly sticker that came in the Wildflower paper pack, and added it along the bottom of the layout with a couple strips of paper and a branding strip.

The gorgeous flower sequins in the Jaded Hearts and Wild & Free Sequin Mixes made a lovely little trail for the pretty butterfly. I used some Glossy Accents to adhere them to the page, and I love the dimension they add!

Here’s a closeup of the beautiful sequin mixes I’ve used today – Jaded Hearts and Wild & Free! The Wild & Free was actually created to coordinate with the Kaisercraft Wildflower papers <3

Awesome little brother

Good morning everyone! Sarah here this morning to share with you my take on a layout by Missy Whidden!

Oh my! I was quite intimidated by this one! I love to watch Missy scrap away on her youtube channel, but I definitely cant scrap like her! But I sure did have fun trying! This is the layout of Missy’s that I chose to scrap lift:

I went for way different colors on my layout and well I guess theme too. This one is all boy!

I chose to use the Crate Paper, Cool kid and the Deck the Halls sequin pack, it went perfect with this collection!

I started by choosing the papers I wanted to punch my circles out of, added some glimmer mist with the packaging technique and then placed my circles down on my layout. I added the top and bottom strip too and then sewed them all down.

Then I moved on to embellishing. I added a pennant banner to the left of the photo, where Missy had had an arrow. Then I moved on to the right side where I added the title.

I matted my photo, added layers of vellum, I think Missy used tissue paper, but I didn’t have any, so vellum worked for me! I added a frame to the right of the photo and then added 3D adhesive to the rest for it all to be popped up and then placed it down. I grabbed my thread and made two thread nests and placed them to the upper left of the photo and then down behind my title. Then I grabbed my sequins and had fun playing with them, adding them here and there around my layout.

I hope you enjoyed my layout. I think Missy is amazing and I love her work! Thanks for coming by and checking ¬†out what I did today and I hope you come back and check out all the fun stuff that’s coming in August too!! So much fun to come!!

Girls Just Wanna Have Sun

Happy Sunday everyone, Ali here, with a super sunny scraplift! We are devoting the entire week to scraplifting the fabulous Missy Whidden! Now let me tell you, that is a tall order and I was super nervous about this! But I actually really enjoyed it and I love the layout I created!

Here is the layout I chose to scraplift, I absolutely love everything about it! Missy has such a distinctive style, and it is totally her own! I wanted to do it justice, without just copying it completely.

I had these fun selfies of my mom, sister, and me at the pool. So I knew I wanted to use the new awesome echo park collection Summer Dreams. So instead of the large star die cuts, I went with suns! I started with some watercolors to create a background in the color scheme. Then I added the suns and machine stitched around them (which was definitely a task!) and I absolute love the look this creates!

After the background was complete it was so simple to add my photos and some layering behind them. I used one of the stickers from the collection as my title. And of course, the best part, sequins! I mixed one of the mini packs with Orange Blossom  and sprinkled those around. Then I picked out a few of the light blues from the Ferris Wheel mix, just to tie it all together! Those little shells are perfect for summer scrapping, I just want to sprinkle them on everything!! Lastly, I typed my journaling and printed on some vellum. It is one of my favorite things to do, especially with a mixed media background, because I sometimes hate covering up all of that hard work!

As you can see, I tried to make this my own, but the inspiration from Missy definitely shines through!

Here are some close ups so you can see those amazing sequins up close, aren’t they fabulous?

Thanks for joining me for this scraplift week, be sure to come back next Sunday, I will have another Missy lift for you! And as always, save some money on your gorgeous sequins with this coupon code!

Tuesday’s Talent – Project Life Stitching

Hi SMS fans! ¬†It’s Melissa Renkawitz, your July Guest Designer, back with another installment of Tuesday’s Talent.

This week’s theme is stitching, and this layout has plenty of it!!! ¬†Today I am sharing with you a layout I just completed for my Project Life album, which documents an amazing weekend I spent at a country music festival last month.

Here is the overall layout…

Here are some of my favorite cards, which feature Shooting Cork Stars from the SMS shop. I love these little cork shapes, they are so fun, and super easy to stitch!  (I do all my stitching by hand)

Seriously, how cut are these little cork stars with the stitching!?!?!

This Project Life layout also includes a 6×12 insert to hold extra photos. ¬†A highlight of this insert is a 3×4 pocket that holds a combination of sequins and more cork stars.

I backed the pocket with a piece of vellum, and added a few labels in the lower right corner, which I stitched in place. ¬†The sequins used in this pocket are a mix I put together to coordinate with the layout colors. ¬†I pulled sequins from “Hey Kiddo” “Sparkle Power” and “Neon Summer.”

If you haven’t tried mixing sequins and cork shapes, or stitching cork on your layout, give these techniques a try!¬†Stop over to the SMS shop, to pick up your own sequins and cork!

(Other products used in this layout are from Citrus Twist Kits)

Trendy Tuesday-You+Me Happy

Good morning everyone!! Sarah here this morning and I have a new layout to share with you all! So this week is stitching week here at Spiegelmomscraps, so of course I’m going to have stitching on my layout, but I’ve also noticed a big trend of layouts with circles on them. So thats what I did this week.

I grabbed Crate papers Hello Love collection, pulled out some of the papers I wanted to play with and of course went with the Fairy Garden sequins from the shop.

I laid my circles where I wanted them across my layout on a diagonal and decided I would cut my picture in one too. I have seen it all over and havent cut my pictures into shapes in forever, so I thought I would go all in and do it with this layout. I stuck my circles down and instead of adding a mat behind my photo, I pulled out my water color paints and painted a black circle that would show from behind the photo. once it dried I  added some 3D foam adhesive to pop it up and stuck it down.

I pulled out my ephemera pack, stickers and some of the chipboard sheet and started to play. I added a few flowers pocking out from behind my picture. Then I went trough and pulled different hearts and some arrows here and there.

I had all my papers down and started stitching around my circles in different colored embroidery thread. I love the texture it added to the layout! I have sewn on a few layouts in the past but this made me want to do it even more!!

After I finished my stitching, I added in all the chipboard and stickers and started adding my oh so pretty sequins. To finish the layout, I grabbed my water colors that I already had out and started splattering in different colors.

I hope you liked this layout and I hope you will join in on the fun this week and stitch on a layout with us!! And make sure to use this code and head over to the Spiegelmomscraps shop and grab you some pretties too!

Baby Shower Gift

Hey y’all!, Ali here! It is stitching week! Yippee!! I absolutely love stitching on layouts, either hand stitching or machine stitching, I just love the detail and depth it adds to a layout. This week I decided to take¬†stitching to a different project, and make a baby shower gift for a good friend. I know she is decorating the nursery with grey, teals, and yellows and the main focus will be giraffes. So I wanted to make a cute piece of home d√©cor for her to put in her nursery!

I started with the giraffe. I found a cute clip art image of a giraffe and printed it out. The hardest part of this project is assembling the giraffe. I picked out the patterned papers I wanted to use, and got to cutting! I cut out each piece of the giraffe and then glued him together!

After I added a bit of water color to my background, I adhered the assembled giraffe. Then…the fun part, stitching! I use a paper piercer and simply go around the image exactly where I want to stitch. When all of my holes are made, I watch TV! Well, I watch TV and stitch! This project took me about an hour to complete (or three episodes of Young and Hungry).

TIP-New to stitching on paper? I know it can be intimidating, I was super nervous the first few times I did it too. I also would get really frustrated when my embroidery floss would get tangled and knotted. Then I discovered a super sweet trick, beeswax. If you pull your thread through beeswax before you start stitching, it holds together and never knots up on you. I didn’t have any beeswax on hand the first time I did this, I had used all of mine for lotion bars. So I just used the lotion bar which is mostly beeswax with a little lavender. So my thread smells lovely and doesn’t make me frustrated-win, win!

Now, for me, no project is complete without sequins! The brand new Ferris Wheel sequins were absolutely perfect for this project, they went with the color scheme and the different sizes and shapes add just the right amount of detail without taking away from the focus (his name and the giraffe).

A simple frame, and voila! This makes a great little gift for a baby shower!

I love how this little project turned out, and I hope the happy mom-to-be will love it too!

Add some sequins to your next project! Be sure to grab up those new releases, they are amazing and I bet they will go fast!!!
