Girls Weekend 8.5×11 Layout with Sarah

Hello SMS fans! It’s Sarah on the blog today with a super fun 8.5×11 layout documenting a girls weekend that I went on.  I grabbed some of my One Canoe Two Hazelwood collection and a bunch of goodies from the SMS shop and got started!  Here is my layout for today:

I started with a 12×12 piece of American Crafts Textured White Card Stock and cut it down to 8.5×11.  I cut a 5×8.5 piece of teal patterned paper from the collection and a 4×8.5 piece of the pink patterned paper.  I tucked the gingham branding strip under the teal section.  I also tucked part of a Chantilly Lace 8″ Doily under the gingham strip.

I filled a Small Glassine Bag with some of the Strawberry Bubblegum Sequin Mix and sewed it shut with my sewing machine.  I used my EZ Runner Grand to adhere it to the back 4×4 photo and popped it up on adhesive dots.

I added ephemera chipboard pieces from Hazelwood and a button from Oasis.  I also grabbed a gold leaf from the Lake Me Away Thicker pack and a gold brad from Happy Place.  I found an old checkered tag from the Gather collection and added it behind my photo with a bit of gold bakers twine from The Twinery.

I also used a few puffy stickers from Hazelwood.  I used the new Oasis Thickers in kraft with gold dots for my title and I stuck the “Weekend” word on from the Take Me Away Thickers.

I used my Maggie Holmes roller phrase stamper to add the sentiment in black Staz On.  I also gave the layout a good splat of Heidi Shine in Gold.  I embellished with enamel dots and Kaistercraft gems.

I hope you have enjoyed my layout for today!  Look for more from me the last Sunday of the month for my last installment of “Shake It Sunday!”

Items I used from the SMS shop:

Make It Yours Monday~Splash!

Hello my scrappy friends!! I hope you all had a WONDERFUL Easter with tons of fun, family, blessings and yummy food!! I know the day after a holiday (esp. a Monday!!) can be tough so I hope my layout today will make your Monday just a little bit better!

I just enjoyed the weather so much yesterday, that I decided to pull out some sunny, warm photos from last summer! I was completely inspired by my Sparklers DT sister, Laura Rumble. I LOVE her simplistic but beautiful style and this layout of hers was just stunning…

So, for my layout today, I took the Gorgeous strip of sequins as my main focus. I began with a piece of American Crafts White Cardstock and backed it with a paris blue cardstock. It was the perfect blue to compliment the pool photo. Then I started my background for my photo. I misted Jeni B Bleu Vibez straight onto the cardstock and let the mist spread out. I added some splatters with Mama Sings The Blues coloringz and had the perfect pool splash!!!For my photo, I started matting it with a piece of blue glitter cardstock, for some more watery shimmer. A second mat was added in pink, to pull in the color of her bathing suit. I added one more final mat, this time using a glassine bag from the shop. I used the glassine bag as a place to tuck my hidden journaling, on a shipping tag, also from the shop. I tied on a piece of May Arts Bakers twine to finish off the tag, tucked it into the bag and adhered the completed photo cluster to the top 1/3 of my layout, among the misty splatters.

Then came the fun sequin part!! Just under my photo, I laid down a thick line of wet adhesive (I prefer Scotch Quick Dry) and dumped all of my Pandora’s Ombre sequin mix into the wet glue!! I tilted the paper and collected the loose sequins and repeated until all the glue was covered with sequins. I added my chipboard title “Splash” from the old Poolside collection and then, sprinkled some more sequins around the title and page.

This was a really fun and quick layout that that really makes a bit impact. I hope you will give a simplistic layout a shot this week and make one of your favorite products SHINE!!

Thanks for joining me for another Make It Yours Monday and dont forget, if you use code LISA15 on all your shop purchases, you will recieve 15% off.  Have a scrappy day!

A Scraplift and A Farewell

Hello my fellow scrapbookers! Todays post is bitter sweet for me. I had so much fun creating this layout, but it is the last layout I will be making as a design team member for Jody’s amazing company.

I have absolutely LOVED working with the products in the SpiegelMom Scraps shop. Jody is amazing at making the perfect combination of sequins in her mixes. Before I became a member of the team I was an enamel dot lover and didn’t really understand what you could do with sequins. That’s kind of silly, right?!! They’re the same shape and size as enamel dots, why can’t you use sequins like them?! Well, YOU CAN! Hah! I quickly fell in love with sequins and it has become an item that I have to have on every layout or it doesn’t feel done. One of the things that I have been drawn to lately is “random piles” of sequins. I used to only use a few enamel dots in each cluster, but for some reason with sequins I have to have at least 5, if not a lot more, for the cluster to feel complete.

Anyway, I’m rambling, mostly because I am sad not to be continuing on, but I have realized in my life that I just need some time to scrapbook just for me and no one else. Without further ado, here’s my layout:

I just love it!! The photos and all the colors are just so bright and fun. I started this layout using the American Crafts White Textured Cardstock.

This is the layout I am scraplifting. It’s actually an art journal page by Irit Landgraf:

Isn’t it gorngeous?!! You can watch her process video here.

I think I’ve said this before, but I just LOVE these Corky Cumulous clouds from the shop!! They’re so adorable!

I used the Mint Chocolate Chip and Gun Metal Grey sequin mix in each of the clusters and a silver doily as well.

Like I was saying earlier, I really love the look of piling my sequins. Isn’t it just so pretty?!! I will do my journaling on this Large shipping tag to the left of the bottom photos.

You can watch my process video below:

Thanks so much for stopping by!! If you make a purchase in the store you can use my code, Megan15, through the month of April. I hope you have enjoyed my layouts throughout this last 9 months!

Herbert

Hi Folks!  Laura here again with a photoless layout.  My pet budgie (parakeet) is called Herbert and I wanted to document the definitions of his name as they are rather apt… well one much more than the other!

I looked up the definition and origin of the name and the word and printed them out.  The other focus is the feathers flair button which is where I got my colour scheme from.  I wanted to keep the layout fairly clean and simple with the added colour coming from splatters and sequins only – no patterned paper at all.

I gathered some sequins; 2 Cool 4 U,  What’s Up Buttercup, Green Acres, Salt of the Earth and strung them onto some thread.  The flair is from Cuts2Luv and Evalicious.

I bumped my definitions on foam – I love the little shadow it throws around the edge.

If you want to replicate grab some Shimmerz inks here, and pulled out your SpiegelMom Scraps sequin stash and have fun!

Loving Life by Evi

Hello scrappy friends!  Today I am playing with the Amore sequin set and playing with a few Shimmerz products from the shop.  I am scrapping an old photo of me in the city from my visit to see my sister last year.  I am actually flying there this weekend for my yearly visit.

I started out with mixing Pinkadelic Acri Tonez and Rhrasberry sorbert Paste-eez to get a darker tone of pink and used a floral stencil from Prima.  With the excess not used I brushed it onto a piece of scrap paper I decide to use on the layout as it progressed.

I then started pulling anything I had on my desk in pink and magenta including some amazing glitter paper to mat my photo.  Ribbing gray tones papers for added interest.  I used this black and white brushed like patterned paper from Dear Lizzy.

The chipboard pieces are from old Studio Calico collections and the clear stickers are MAMBI.  I layered the scrap paper I wiped off my extra product on as a point of interest.

For my last detail, I added sequins from the Amore pack, available in the shop.  If you make a purchase use code Evi15 for a discount.

MOMENTS

Hello hello everyone!  I just love getting down on the ground to take photos of a subject up close.  As a photographer, this is one of the must do’s in order to capture that once in a life time master piece, well at least in my eyes, Lol.  So what I did was I got down on the ground for this photo of my granddaughter who decided to pose for me and I love it!  She was so good at it that I kept going later with other photos of her.  If you are a photographer or just like taking photos, whether is getting up high or down on the ground, taking the perfect photo is just something that only happens once in a life time, so cherish those photos that you take and when you look back you will probably ask yourself, ” How did I do that” and then comes the story.

Take a look at this layout, where I was able to use two different kinds of sequins, Pandora’s Ombre and Magical Day in the Park, both are from the Spiegelmom Scraps shop to highlight the colors in the papers and the outfit my granddaughter is wearing.

I used the Amy Tan “Oh Happy Day” collection and yes I still have a lot of it left.  I love it because of its colors. Here is a close up of the sequins Magical Day in the Park. These are my all time favorite sequins.

I also used the Pandora’s Ombre to put in the center of the die cut flowers.

I did the same for this flower, which is partly on the photo and sprinkled some at the top of the layout.  These sequins make the perfect center for a flower!

Then I used some of the wash tape that came with the collection and used it as a border edge around the white cardstock and some on the cardstock.

I just love how these sequins match the papers!  Thanks for stopping by and be sure to get to the Spiegelmom Scraps shop for your own goodies and you can use the code Felicia15 to receive a 15% discount on your oder!  Have a wonderful day everyone!

What About Wednesday: Watercolor Mixed Media

Aloha!!! I am loving the bright colors in many of the collections coming out this spring. the pastel and vibrant colors make me happy and ready for the warmer weather and longer days.

This week I really wanted to play around with the colors I have been inspired by. I started off with some white cardstock and some watercolors. There is just something about playing with paint and stencils that really help get my creative juices flowing.

Because I was using watercolor I used some clear gesso on the cardstock. I really like the way the paint flows on a gesso’d background better. I love the way the two colors mix and pool to form different colors, and darker or lighter colors depending on how the paint lays on the background.

I used the watercolor area as my focus area for behind on my photo. I almost wanted the watercolor to become part of the layering process.

After the watercolor dried, I used one of my favorite stencils from Amy Tangerine. It is a small 3X4 size stencil with triangles on it. I took a dark black pen and used it to outline around the triangles and draw lines inside the triangles to create a fun triangle. I used the stencil in many different areas across my white cardstock. I really wanted the pop of black on the white and colors.

I matted the white cardstock with a fun and funky triangle patterned paper from the Paige Evans Oh My Heart Collection.

This collection matches the attitude and feel for the picture that I wanted to scrap. A picture of my daughter, Cayden with a very high ponytail. I remember when I took that photo, too. She was really excited about having a really cool hairstyle and ponytail. She wanted it as high up as I could put it. Even though I didn’t understand why, I couldn’t help but help her. She always get so giddy about looking hip and in style, even if her fashion choices are ones I don’t understand. Maybe it’s part of being a mom, not understanding the choices but enjoying the experience and the smiles. My daughter looks so cute and I am glad to capture these moments of her and her personality.

On my photo I added a chipboard triangle patterned frame. I love how the triangles on the frame are colored and the background paper is mostly black and white. In the corner of the frame I added a big die cut piece.

Behind my photo I layered thin strips of patterned paper and a white doily.

Around my photo I added some more chipboard pieces and a big cork ampersand.

With the title, layers of paper, ampersand and A Mermaid’s Tale Sequin mix I love the way everything looks layered and peeks out from around the photo.

Another fun thing I decided to do to make this layout different, was alter some feltie hearts. I wanted to add some elements that were already on my layout like the mini staples I added to the bottom corner when I matted with patterned paper.

I took the larger navy, white and yellow feltie hearts and cut some of them in half. I layered the cut heart on top of the uncut heart. I then added two tiny staples on the edge of the cut heart. They look super cute, just like Cayden.

I added these feltie hearts throughout the layout. At the top of my layout I added some more strips of paper and some more sequins.

It really adds an unique embellishment and keeps it feeling fresh, just like Cayden’s top know hair style.

I love adding techniques like watercolor to make my layouts unique. It’s a way to be creative an make it me on a page. I use it to help tell my story. I hope you are inspired to use techniques and papers and embellishments to inspire you to tell your story. Use it to have fun on your layouts.

Here is one final look at my layout.

Have a great week!! I hope I see you around the Facebook group and the community sharing the projects and layouts using the SpiegelMom Scraps products you have bought.
