Interactive What??

Hello scrappers, Ali here! I am super excited about the project I am sharing today…for a few reasons! One. I got my Fuse out again, that always makes me happy! Two, it is inspired by one of my faves-Miranda Lambert! Three, it is also inspired by papercrafting…not specifically scrapbooking. I love watching videos of people who make exploding boxes, pop up cards, sliding thingys (technical term), and anything interactive. I love making boxes and recently made a pop up card. But I have wanted to incorporate interactive elements on my scrapbook layouts as well. I always decide not to because of the pesky page protectors! But alas, I found a way around that!

Before we get to the interactive part let’s talk sequins…I love love love the new releases, and especially Painted Gardens. My favorite color is purple, and I know a lot of scrappy friends hate purple, but it is my JAM! I also used a combination of Sparkle Power and What’s Up Buttercup in my shaker/journaling. After I completed my layout I knew I wanted to add a LOT of journaling, but I didn’t really have room. So I made a little shaker cover that will flip open to reveal my journaling! So, this is a photo of me as a little kid on a tricycle, with heart shaped glasses, and I just know I am too cool. The sunglasses are pink…which immediately made me think of the Miranda Lambert song, Pink Sunglasses. When I saw this photo, I knew I had to scrap about my pink sunglasses…and not just in the literal sense. The song (for those of you who don’t stalk Miranda Lambert on Spotify) is about “pink sunglasses” or as we usually refer to them, rose colored glasses. I still have a habit of putting on my rose colored glasses and seeing the world as a big sparkle-tastic place to be. It helps me cope. But as a kid, I think we all see the good in things. My journaling reflects how I felt about growing up in this particular neighborhood vs. what I know now. Basically, how my pink sunglasses shaped my view of my childhood.

Here comes the fun part. Under the photo is actually a double slider. The twine at the top, which will stick out of my page protector when I move it to an album (in about 6 months…) is accessible to pull the sliders out and reveal the song lyrics…

I really love how this turned out. It is so much fun to make and it’s so much fun to interact with!

I also made a little stop motion video to show you how the sliders work!

Have you ever created an interactive layout? I would love to see it!

Don’t forget to add the sequins!

Scrappy Friday – Jenn Gagne Scraplift

This week, we’re scraplifting Jenn Gagne and this is the page I’ve decided to scraplift:

I was particularly attracted by the large picture plus the different embellishments around it. Here is my page :

I used the Build a Snowman sequins as well as some cork embellishments, combined with different tags.

What about you? Do you like scrapping large pictures?

See you next month for a new Scrappy Friday!

Finish What you Start!

Hello again, Jenn the guest designer here!!!  This past week, in one of the Facebook groups I belong to the question was asked “how many unfinished projects do you have on the go”?  Overwhelmingly, the answer was “MANY”.  This is a topic that comes up often in my local scrapbook group, especially when we plan a scrap day together.  We all bring our unfinished December Daily’s, summer mini albums, and Project Life albums and hope that we can get some motivation from each other to finish them.

I, personally, don’t feel pressure to be ‘caught up’ necessarily (is that even possible?) but I have noticed that the amount of unfinished projects I have is growing, and I really need to tackle them.  I wouldn’t say that I get bored with my projects, but just that something new inevitably comes along to steal my focus.  It feels really good to finish something you’ve started, though, so I am going to take all the excitement and energy I have for my Traveler’s Notebook insert of our summer trip and run with it.  I’ve kept my kit out and whenever I have a few minutes I do something in it.  Once this project is done, I’ll keep up the momentum by grabbing another unfinished project, putting a little kit together and leaving it out and accessible.  I can work on it while watching tv, or in between working on the to-do list.  Just 10 minutes of work here and there, will have these projects done in no time 🙂

Here are the two most recent layouts I finished in my notebook.  I started with some texture paste through a stencil to make little clouds then let it dry while I went out to run some errands.  When I got back I used some Shimmerz spritz in Chick-a-dee and smooshed it on the pages, then went and started some prep work for supper while it dried.  I came back and added some Reflections spray in blue, and picked out a few die cuts I thought I’d like to use.  Before I knew it, I had two layouts done and ready for some pretty SpiegelMom Scraps cork hearts and sequins.  I used several different mixes of sequins and I love that I could find all the colours I needed and that they work so well together, to give the layouts some shine!!!  The layouts are simple, but still loaded with little details that make them interesting.

Because I scrap in our living room (or sometimes the kitchen table for big projects) I can’t use this piece by piece approach for every project.  I just can’t leave my stuff all over the place because little fingers will be in to it, but for all my small projects like mini albums and December Daily, this is the way to go for me.  Now to find the trick for how to stop myself from being swooned by new projects before I’ve finished the old ones!!!  How many unfinished projects have you got waiting to be finished?  Do you have a strategy for getting them done?  I’d love to hear it 🙂

Thanks so much for popping by!  To see how I created these layouts please check out the process video

Happy Scrapping,

Make it Yours Monday~Love Fall

Hello my crafty friends and welcome back to another Make it yours Monday! This week, we are being inspired by our fabulous guest designer for the month, Jenn Gagne! As soon as I saw this layout of hers, I knew it was my inspiration piece! I love the circle element as well as the little corner accents to add some interest to the page!!! .

To begin, I took a piece of vanilla cardstock and misted it with Shimmerz Sunset Strip Vibes, Tattered Angels Pumpkin Spice and Chili mists and then took my art rag and rubbed them together to create the slightly ombre/blended background.

No automatic alt text available.

I placed my photo next, so it could help aid the placement of all the other elements later on. I added a torn piece of navy blue and gold glitter cardstocks as my photo mat. They complimented the colors in the photo so well!!  I also did my title next, so I could place it exactly where I wanted it, and could work around it with the embellishments later on.

My favorite part was creating the leaves, using one of the new, FREE cut files available in the shop, Lovely Leaves. I used my Brother Scan N Cut and several pieces of fall colored cardstocks to cut out multiples of each leaf design, and then used my versamarker and embossing powders to add details to the large ones and my favorite glue in my fineline bottle and glitter for the smaller leaf details. No automatic alt text available.

I situated the leaves around the page to mimick the circle element of Jenn’s layout, and added some of the newest sequin mixes in the shop, Aquarius and Peachy Keeny, to add even more dimension and texture as well as great pops of color!!

No automatic alt text available.

I added a few of the smaller leaves around my photo and my journaling to the left of the title, just under the photo.

To finish my page, I added some splatters to the leaf ring around the page, using the same colors I used for the background, as well as some Navy color shine. I mounted the entire layout on a piece of soft orange cardstock and added a doodle-y boarder around the edge to add some definition. No automatic alt text available.

A few strips of nave and gold cardstocks to the top left and bottom right corner & the date finished off my fall wreath layout.

I got really excited when I saw the finished page!! It’s probably one of my most favorite layouts in a LONG time!! I hope you enjoyed my process and layout today and will stop by the shop for some of these amazing products!!!! When you do,

Summer Smiles with Ali

Hey scrappers! It’s Ali here, this week we are scraplifting Jenn Gagne. I chose this colorful layout, I love the diagonal design with the doily center, so much fun!

For my layout I started with picking my paper for my layers and used a punch to create a doily-like layer in each of the patterned papers I was chose. Once I finished the layers for the center I mixed up some watercolors to match. I also punched some 1 inch circles to emulate that diagonal design from Jenn’s original. I stuck those down and painted right on top of them. When my paint dried, I removed the circles. I love the end result, it was so quick and easy, but it added a lot of interest to the background.

When my watercolor background was dry, I added my layers, my photo and a title. I used the “summer” banner that went with the Echo Park Summer Dreams collection and the “smiles” thicker (I believe from Amy Tan). When it came time to add the sequins, it was super easy to choose, Orange Blossom was perfect for my orangey side, and Ferris Wheel was great for my teal side! Plus, these two mixes are some of my most favorite, so it was a no brainer! A few stickers and embellishments in matching colors and this layout was done. I love quick layouts. This one was so fast. One of my favorite ways to create a quick layout is by picking a few colors to work with, and grouping paper, embellishments, and sequins by color.

Thanks for great inspiration Jenn! Hope you all enjoyed this summery layout! It’s still summer here in Texas, but I am keeping my fingers crossed for Fall soon!

Scrappy Friday – Art makes you happy

Hello Creatives,

Here I am, back on the Artsy-Fartsy theme! To illustrate our monthly theme, I’ve decided to share with you a card I’ve made for one of my colleagues.

Indeed, on my very first day back to work, she offered me a very nice and artistic present to thank me for something I helped her with. That’s why I felt like making a card for her, with a simple message “Art makes you happy”

To decorate this card, I used the Holly Berries sequins, as well as some Shimmerz Pasteez (the Tree Hugger and Raspberry Sherbet ones). As usual, I used various stamps to add a final touch to it.

Hope my Art will make my colleague happy!

But First, Coffee…. Painted Canvas With Karla

Hi friends!! Karla here today with a pretty painted canvas featuring the beautiful SpiegelMom Scraps Aquarius sequin mix. Recently, I went to Michaels with my girls and they were doing a drop in painting class where you purchased a canvas and they provided the paints. You could paint whatever you liked, so I decided to paint my favourite….Coffee!! I found a picture I liked on Pinterest and just hand sketched it onto my canvas, and then added some paint. It was fun, I didn’t overthink it, and I love how it turned out!

I love the oranges and blues in these sequins! I used Glossy Accents to adhere my sequins to the canvas, and the Silhouette PIck Me Up Tool made it quick and easy to add them. This sign makes me smile every time I look at it!

Here’s a look at the gorgeous colours and sequins in the Aquarius sequin mix! I love how it just adds the details to the canvas that makes it pop!

Here’s a look at what my girlies painted – and how the canvas looked before adding the fantastic Aquarius sequin mix! Amie painted a sunset, and Erica painted popsicles with ears – because who says popsicles can’t have ears??
