What About Wednesday: Mixed Media Layout

13932877_10210738580967273_2143640393516853298_n

Aloha!! It’s Hannah here today!!

How is your week going? My hubby had a 4 day weekend and that always throws my week off. But I thankfully got an extra day off to scrap all day. As much as the week is all crazy, I can never say no to an extra day of all day scrapbooking. I know I am lucky to have a spouse who kicks me to my scrap room.

Since I had all day to play I decided to play with some mixed media. I like to my time and really play. I used to use media a lot more than I do now, and when I pick up my paints it’s like riding a bike. I love the ride playing with mixed media takes me on.

I started with some clear gesso on white card stock. I wanted a little protection since I really didn’t know what I would end up using on the background. I like to go into my layouts open to whatever feels right. Sometimes this works well for me, sometimes it doesn’t turn out quite right. I am ok with this journey though. It helps me learn and grow as a crafter and scrapbooker.

I grabbed some acrylic paints and cup of water. Typically on a canvas you wouldn’t want to mix water and acrylic paint. The water effects the structure of the paint. On a canvas this could mean the paint could not adhere properly. I think in the case of paper though, water mixed with the acrylic paint it really helps it be more fluid, and dry quicker. I haven’t noticed that the water has affected my paint on the paper in the layouts I have made in the past. ( I say this as a warning, that any media that isn’t photo safe, could have an effect on the photo if you don’t use enough layers between the paint and the photo. Use your gut, with this info. If you feel weird and wrong for any unknown product and it’s ability to effect your photo, don’t do it. For me I make many of these layouts for my enjoyment and it doesn’t bother me. That is just me though.)

I used my paint brush to add drops of the watered down acrylic paint. I do this technique often. It is easy, and it’s hard to mess up. You can add as many or as few droplets to your page for the look you want. I like to mix big and small paint drops.

IMG_2973

This is an image I took while my paint was drying.  I added each color. Then dried it for less than a minute with my heat tool. I then let it air dry for about 15 minutes. I added blue plus signs with a thin watercolor brush. I thought this would be fun. Seeing plus signs sticking out throughout the layout. I also added paint lines on the corners of the layout. To tell you the truth this is part I wish I would have left out. I wished I would have hand drawn lines with a black ink pen. But I didn’t and This is where you have to decide to keep going and see how the layout will turn out or stop and toss it. It really is a personal thing to choose. Some days I have been known to start pulling things off a layout in the middle of making it because I hated it. It again is part of this process of learning and growing and becoming the scrapbooker you want to be.

Once dry I started to build my layers. This is my favorite part. I love finding, searching for all these bits and pieces and fitting them in like a puzzle.

For this layout I used one 4×4 square photo. I really enjoy this size for building layers. I really try to switch things up and not use it all the time though, because it is easy for things to feel the same when I use this size all the time. Even though depending on the papers you layer each layout can look completely different.

IMG_3009

I love this photo of my puppy!! At the time of this picture (when I took it) she was about 5 or so months. So curious about everything I was doing in my scrap room. One day I was trying to take pictures of my layout with her inside. She wanted to be in on the action. I am so glad I took this image while trying to hold her in my legs to keep her away my layout. It really makes my smile. Having a small puppy can be so much fun, even though it really makes everything much more difficult to get done. Haha!!

While building my layers I grabbed papers I thought would match the photo and papers that I had laying around. I love mixing sizes and fitting them in around.

IMG_3004

I added a white doily and a medium shipping tag in my layers. I love the texture they add. Also the shapes are much different than the strips of patterned paper which works really well the pull everything in, but make it unique.

IMG_3005

I tucked die cuts in my layers too. This is the fun part of layering, finding pieces that are odd and  making them fit. Sometimes all it is a color that works. Like this die cut.. Hello.

IMG_3007

The color worked and I love how it just fits.

I added some grey feltie hearts on this layout. They are my favorite!! Literally they are amazing. Paired with some white thread and a flair badge from The Spiegel Mom Scraps collab with Accent Scrapbooking. I love how the green in you is picked up by the strip of green paper I used.

I scattered some Holly Berries Sequins around the whole layout. I really like how this holiday inspired mix works because of it’s nature feel.

IMG_3006

Especially with these wood pieces that I picked up in the clearance part of the shop.

IMG_3003

I really played up on the fun and silliness of the photo with this layout. I really like when the tone of the photo matches with the layout.

IMG_3011

I love using stickers for titles especially when I mix that with Thickers. These white ones are so puffy and fun.

IMG_3001

Here is the whole layout.

Make It Yours Monday~ Dawn

make it yours monday

Welcome back to another Make it Yours Monday. Today’s inspiration layout by Caroline Free is so beautiful, I knew it was perfect for this photo.

2-20 Collage

I started with a few pieces of American Crafts white cardstock. I used one as the base and one for the cut file of leaves. On the base, I splattered some Glorious Day Vibes for some pretty gold shimmer.16832237_10211876403806469_4582393468187328994_n

I then laid the cut file, which was a wreath to start, in each corner and trimmed the extra leaves. I added some pop dots under some of the leaves to make them stand out a bit, since it’s tone on tone. 16641052_10211876403326457_8497898621470489270_n

I mounted my photo, (the sunrise from the morning I learned my Mom had passed) on some gold patterned vellum and navy cardstock. I added it to the layout in the center of the layout to make it the star of the page, 16807731_10211876403966473_7713851077258952295_n

Then, I got to fussy cutting the beautiful flowers, I used Paper 10 from the Pink Paislee Take Me Away collection. I made sure to cut more than I needed to see which ones would fit best where I needed them. I layered them on to the layout and adhered them down when I got the right combination of flower pieces. 16807731_10211876403966473_7713851077258952295_n

The title fit perfectly under the photo’s right corner, and I stayed with the white on white and used some pretty sparkly white Thickers. 16865166_10211876404326482_2618604383938733431_n

This layout really would not have felt finished without some sparkle. The new Morning Dew Drops were the perfect finishing touch. 16649109_10211876403846470_2610927123907361766_n

Scraplift Sunday with Crafty Meggy

Scraplift Sunday

Hello again my SMS friends! I am back on this wonderful Sunday with another Scraplift layout to share with you.

I just want to say I really love scraplifting layouts!! I often try to change the layout and make it my own and with this one I definitely made sure to do that! This is the layout I found on pinterest:

feb1scraplift

Isn’t it just gorgeous?!! I absolutely fell in love with all the mixed media in the background! She even has a companion layout called ‘SHE’. Make sure to go on over to the Cocoa Vanilla Studio blog to check it out! I was just blown away.

feb19scraplift1footer

This is my layout. I am really happy with how it turned out!! I used the American Crafts white textured cardstock for the background with some gesso. To get the background mist I sprayed in 4 spots and added water. I used Heidi Ho Blue, No Yolking and Before Dawn.

feb19scraplift2

I used the 2 Cool 4 U sequin mix from the shop as well as the Clique Kits December 2016 embellishment pack and flair badge. I decided that this was going to be the title for my layout.

feb19scraplift3

I made a little cluster in the bottom left hand corner with the journaling. This spot worked out perfect!

feb19scraplift4

Here’s another view of this title cluster. I really had a lot of fun with this layout!

Hello Scrappy friends.  I love playing with products from the Spiegelmom Scraps.  I received these felt and cork cloud shape embellishments and wanted to use them on this layout.  I am scrapping a fun photo of my sister and I in the playground during a photo shoot we did for my LuLaRoe launch.  It was a cool photo.

IMG_0436

I gessoed the white card stock and used heavy gloss gel through a Prima floral stencil.  I then sprayed Egg Noggin Vibes and Jeni B Bleu vibe from Shimmerz paints, available in the Spigelmom Scraps shop.

IMG_0437

My title is a large from a sticker pack from MAMBI and it worked perfectly to describe my layout.  I then adhered Corky Cumulus and Cloudy Days felties as clouds in my watercolor wash of colored creating an abstract sky.

IMG_0438

I then added peach mist from Kaiser Krafts, Cape Cod Coral from Lindy Stamp gang over the gel flowers with the packaging technique.  I had these flower die cuts from my Cameo sitting on my desk and they worked perfectly as the large embellishment on  my layout.

IMG_0443

I then added more details with Spring Fever sequins pack.  These are 3D flower sequins in iridescent colors.  Loved them as my finishing touch.  If you’d like to make a purchase at SpiegelMom Scraps, use Evi15 for a discount.  Thank you for spending some time with me.  ~Evi

What About Wednesday: Changing up the photo size

13932877_10210738580967273_2143640393516853298_n

Aloha!! For Christmas My parents came to visit and we did a couple of things out and about. I took my DSLR with me to get some good and nice shots while out. I am so glad I did too. Having a nicer camera than my phone really makes the difference between nice shots and photos and AMAZING shots and photos.

After editing my photos in Photoshop, I arranged them on a template sized at 8 1/2 X11. I had the idea of printing my photos, thinner and longer. I wanted to try to do something different, even if I wasn’t sure what that would be.

I added three images to the 8 1/2X11 template and printed that out on my HP Photosmart Printer with glossy photo paper.

IMG_2744

Changing up the size of your images is a great way to spark creativity in your projects. Even if you don’t print at home like I do, many printing companies offer different sizes when you order.

Let’s take a look at the finished layout!

SMS By The Docks footer staged

I love this shot that I took in Poulsbo, Washington. This water dock shot is almost as pretty as it was in person. I love how it stretches across the layout, which is why I choose to scrap in the 9X12 size.

IMG_2825

I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out the words Docks and Bay. I picked a font from my computer that had a Viking feel. The town of Poulsbo, is all things Vikings. The buildings and colors felt like you were walking down an Norwegian town. This font had that feel as well. They are nice and big and draw your eye right towards the photo.

I also cut the tickets from a patterned paper and scattered them near the title but also throughout the layout. Layering the tickets with Thickers and Cork Stars make a nice little cluster.

IMG_2824

I used a post card ephemera piece from Maggie Holmes Gather (the colors from this collection went so well with my photo too) for my journaling.

I clustered more ticket ends, cork stars, and mocha mint dreams sequins together on the journaling card.

IMG_2822

At the bottom of the picture I layered a gold doily with the ticket ends, cork stars and mocha mint dream sequins. I used some chipboard pieces from Ali Edwards Story Kits as well. The sentiments were perfect for a road trip.

I love how this gold doily peaks out though. It really catches your eye to the bottom of the photo.

IMG_2828

Also added a half gold doily up at the top of my layout with a wood grain tab layered with a ticket stub and cork star.

I really enjoyed using a different size photo for a change. It allowed me to focus on the photo, especially since it was a gorgeous shot. having it span across the layout really just made it the focal point.

I hope you are inspired to try out using a different size photo than what you are used too. If you do don’t forget to share it over at our Facebook group too.

You can also watch the process video for this layout.

You Make my Heart Smile by Evi

IMG_9809

Hello lovely ladies of the scrapbooking community.  I sat down to scrap and printed nothing but photos of my sister and I during her last trip to Florida.  I love my sister so much and wish she lived here with me.  But our visits together are always a blast.  I printed the photos in black and white in order not to compete with whatever background and direction this layout takes me.

IMG_9810

I started with the background from Maggie Holmes Shine collection and used my 12×12 stencil from The Crafters Workshop called Capricious with heavy gel and covered it in glitter that twinkles with gold and pink.

IMG_9811

Then I fuzzy cut out the florals from a patterned paper from the Shine collection.  I clustered them along the left vertical side of the photo.  I then used chipboard elements from Dear Lizzy.

IMG_9813

The flair badges are from Accent Scrappbooking that were added on top of my embellishment clusters.

IMG_9817

A layout is not complete without sequins from the shop.  I used Autumn Joys and Mint Mocha Dream for the last details of this layout.  If you would like to make a purchase, use Evi15 at checkout.  Thank you for joining me.  Till next time…. Evi.
