Magical – A Whimsical Layout

Hello and Welcome! This is my attempt at a “Make it Yours” Monday. I’m not so great at the themes. But this project just so happens to fit perfectly because I scraplifted a combination of an old project by me, here¬†+ some inspiration by Suse Fish.

#SpiegelmomScraps #shimmerz #exclusivesequins #cratepaper #maggieholmes #cratepapergather #pinkfreshstudio #createwithsms #vellum #golddetails #stitching @wordsandpaperscraps @shimmerzpaints @pinkfreshstudio @cratepaper #scrapbooking #papercrafting

I started with a white cardstock background, used washi tape as a vertical barrier, and painted thick horizontal stripes using “In the Navy” Acri-Tonez by Shimmerz from the shop. In case you’re in need of a technique for these magical paints – here you go. Make a simple striped background and you’ll be very happy with the results ūüėČ

I chose to use gold polka-dot patterned vellum over the non-stripe side of the cardstock. I love the shine it adds. I used Indigo Hills by Pinkfresh Studio patterned paper to cover the seam between the paint and the vellum.

On this layout I used embellishments from that same Pinkfresh Studio collection, Crate Paper Gather, and flair from Accent Scrapbooking.

All of these products pair so well with the Pandora’s Ombre sequin mix. But I also debated on using this one¬†too.

So, my challenge to you: Pick an Acri-Tonez and paint a bold background. Happy crafting!

Cutting Up A Cut File!

Hey chaps, Laura here today.¬† I usually cut a few bits on my Silhouette Cameo when I have it out.¬† This means some cuts don’t get used right away, and sometimes the edges end up damaged.¬† Rather than through this large background piece away I decided to cut it apart, discard the damaged bits and keep the good bits!

I backed a few of the petal sections with the gorgeous blue roses paper from Maggie Holmes’ Chasing Dreams.¬† I adore this pattern and colour and I’m using it really sparingly!

Incidentally, it is a perfect match for Pandora’s Ombre sequin mix.

I filled a glassine bag with some Pandora’s Ombre and got a little sad that I had used nearly all of my supply.¬† I emptied about half out and threw in some tiny cheap white sequins that have been in my stash for nearly a decade!¬† I don’t use them as they are not perfect but behind glassine you can’t tell.

I then used the left over Pandora’s Ombre sequins to embellish the page.

Before adhering my cut file down I used watercolour and the packaging technique to add some blue to my background.  I also added foam adhesive to the back of the cut files for added dimension and cast shadows.

Thanks for looking!

Laura

What About Wednesday: Changing up the photo size

13932877_10210738580967273_2143640393516853298_n

Aloha!! For Christmas My parents came to visit and we did a couple of things out and about. I took my DSLR with me to get some good and nice shots while out. I am so glad I did too. Having a nicer camera than my phone really makes the difference between nice shots and photos and AMAZING shots and photos.

After editing my photos in Photoshop, I arranged them on a template sized at 8 1/2 X11. I had the idea of printing my photos, thinner and longer. I wanted to try to do something different, even if I wasn’t sure what that would be.

I added three images to the 8 1/2X11 template and printed that out on my HP Photosmart Printer with glossy photo paper.

Changing up the size of your images is a great way to spark creativity in your projects. Even if you don’t print at home like I do, many printing companies offer different sizes when you order.

Let’s take a look at the finished layout!

I love this shot that I took in Poulsbo, Washington. This water dock shot is almost as pretty as it was in person. I love how it stretches across the layout, which is why I choose to scrap in the 9X12 size.

IMG_2825

I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out the words Docks and Bay. I picked a font from my computer that had a Viking feel. The town of Poulsbo, is all things Vikings. The buildings and colors felt like you were walking down an Norwegian town. This font had that feel as well. They are nice and big and draw your eye right towards the photo.

I also cut the tickets from a patterned paper and scattered them near the title but also throughout the layout. Layering the tickets with Thickers and Cork Stars make a nice little cluster.

IMG_2824

I used a post card ephemera piece from Maggie Holmes Gather (the colors from this collection went so well with my photo too) for my journaling.

I clustered more ticket ends, cork stars, and mocha mint dreams sequins together on the journaling card.

IMG_2822

At the bottom of the picture I layered a gold doily with the ticket ends, cork stars and mocha mint dream sequins. I used some chipboard pieces from Ali Edwards Story Kits as well. The sentiments were perfect for a road trip.

I love how this gold doily peaks out though. It really catches your eye to the bottom of the photo.

IMG_2828

Also added a half gold doily up at the top of my layout with a wood grain tab layered with a ticket stub and cork star.

I really enjoyed using a different size photo for a change. It allowed me to focus on the photo, especially since it was a gorgeous shot. having it span across the layout really just made it the focal point.

I hope you are inspired to try out using a different size photo than what you are used too. If you do don’t forget to share it over at our Facebook group too.

What About Wednesday: Monochromatic Layout with Layers

13932877_10210738580967273_2143640393516853298_n

Aloha my scrappy friends!!  This past week the weather here in Washington has been so nice, high forties, sunny. It has me thinking about nature. All the photos I have been taking this summer/fall of nature around me.

Also lately I have been in a monochromatic mood. I really have been enjoying mixing different shades of the same color together. I really have been loving focusing on a couple colors that match or compliment each other and use just that. Picking out embellishments that match is like a scavenger hunt in my stash.

This fall I took some photos of the pinecones from our yard. I have been really into taking nature pictures of the things around us. Trying to get creative with my shots and take pictures of things I see everyday but don’t always capture. These are usually things that inspire me when I sit down at my scrap desk.

IMG_2355

I started off using my Shimmerz sprays with a paint brush for different size drops on top of White card stock. I like using a medium size brush so I can get bigger drops but also tap the brush for small splatters. I used Shimmerz Vibez Eggnoggin’ and Bamboo Leaf. I also used Tinsel from Heidi Swapp Color Shine to get a black gray color.

I knew the color would work with the outline I doodled along the outside of the layout. I also knew I wanted to use the black and white line crossed paper from Maggie Holmes Gather Collection to mat my two photos.

IMG_2358

I used lots of layers on this layout. I really wanted a natural feel to them, to mimic the images. I used a past kit from Clique Kits that had similar colors and a fall theme. I Used white doilies, ripped washi tape and Studio Calico wood chips in the layers for a chunky look to my layers.

Like I mentioned I wanted a monochromatic look, so I stuck with green, gray and orange tones throughout my layout. The Evergreen Bough Sequin mix was perfect for this layout. Paired with the Dear Lizzy chipboard Thicker plus signs it added a fun scattering of embellishments that I think didn’t over power the layout.

I added Pretty Little Studio word phrases and labels from a past spring line that was very nature themed. I even made a banner with bits from the labels in the layers.

The felt Evergreen Trees were given to me by a friend and they are so fun and look great tucked in next to my clusters. I used them with some baker’s twine and Maya Road white tassels. I love this element. It really draws your eyes to the photos.

IMG_2353

I really just love how it all turned out and really helps showcase these two really fun and cool pictures of pinecones from my yard. One during the summer when they were covered with sap, and in the fall fallen apart ready to drop seeds for future pine trees. I love that my kids are super thrilled to play and experience this nature around them, by collecting them and examine them.

I love that I get to remember their excitement for learning and experimenting with nature. I hope they don’t lose their wanderlust! Their joy for the beauty and world around them.

IMG_2356

I really, really love these Dear Lizzy Thicker word phrases. I couldn’t help but use one for the title. I layered it on top a Dear Lizzy cut apart that says Bliss Ave. With plus signs and sequins scattered around it, it really is a big focus.

What About Wednesday: Highlights of 2016

13932877_10210738580967273_2143640393516853298_n

Aloha!! I love this time of the year. It’s a time for fresh and new starts. To know where I want to go from here though I think it is extremely important to take a step back and look at all we have accomplished in the year before. For my family this year was filled with so much.

I really wanted to make a layout that listed all these things. I want to keep it simple and make it fun too.

I decided to go with the 9×12 size to make my layout. I really love the way my albums look like with all these different sizes incorporated through it.

img_2166

I had so much fun layering papers and labels. Feltie Hearts and Build A Snowman Sequins were layered too. I really wanted the year to stand out.

There are so many ways to make a layout about highlights, right?! I really had to sit back and think about the approach I wanted to take for mine. I decided I wanted it to be focused on journaling and not on pictures. Even though that would have made for a really cool layout too. It is just not what I was feeling. Where I am in my journey of scrapbooking right now.

Because I I am not using a photo or multiple photos, If I did I think I would have loved to have tried circle photos. As crazy as that sounds. I think the smaller glimpses into our highlights would have been a fun approach. I decided to add a bold patterned paper on the bottom half of the layout. It really makes a statement and gets your attention.

img_2167

To separate the pattern from the open white space, which would soon be filled I used a branding strip from a scrap paper. I choose a black and white pattern to really ground the loud pattern. I layered some labels again as I did in the date title. This simple layering is such a little fun piece that helps give a little cluster to enjoy. I used more Feltie Hearts and Build A Snowman Sequins again to bring a cohesive feel throughout the page.  I also dated the labels with a light aqua date stamp.

img_2168

At the top of the layout I hand drew Highlights. My handwriting isn’t amazing but I really feel like it’s something that will be treasured. When I think about looking through old documents from the past, seeing a person’s handwriting it just stirs something in me. This is why it is so important for me to write on majority of my layouts, and this one even more so.

I also add a Feltie Heart and some Bulid A Snowman Sequins to the corner. After all the journaling I did I made sure there was Egg-noggin Shimmers ink splatters in that corner as well as throughout the layout.

If I had really planned this layout better, I would have thought the heart stamp as bullet points for my list from the beginning. I however am very much a scrapper of the moment, which I think really shows my passion. It can though make things look little messy, but I am ok with this. So know, that these little details really tells your family about who you are.  It is quite a fun element on a page, whether you pre-plan or wing it.

img_2169

I started off by hand drawing hearts and then later switched to using a stamp. This gave me the ability to change the color of the hearts easier. I used black and pink ink.

I really love how the journaling up up looking.

img_2170

It is so much fun seeing all the accomplishments of our family written done. Now I can’t wait to make a layout all about the things I want to reach for this year. I look forward to seeing even bigger and brighter things for my family too.

I hope you were inspired today to journal more and make a layout about things you have accomplished this past year or throughout your life. It would be so much fun to turn this layout into a bucket list type of layout too. There are so many different approaches you could take.

I hope to see you around next week and in the Facebook Group too.

Gather-LGS + SMS Team Up Wk 2!

I’m loving all the projects that have come out of our sketch swap with¬†Let’s Get Sketchy!¬† They most certainly challenge me. When I’m not thinking it up in my own brain it feels more difficult.

14993434_10154699945692392_2058722186215464406_n

I started with a hot pink Basic Grey paper. I love how it brings out the pink in that bouquet of flowers. I dripped some Vibez in Blushing Bride to add some interest to the paper. I opted to create my focal point with four 3 x 3 pieces, one picture and 3 squares of patterned paper. I made sure those squares coordinated without being too busy – I hoped to avoid that as best I could with this page.¬†#SpiegelmomScraps #sequins #LGSketchy #shimmerzpaints #cratepaper #scrapbooking #memorykeeping #papercrafting #lawnfawn #sketchchallenge @wordsandpaperscraps @LGsketchy @shimmerzpaintsI cut square and rectangular scraps from various pieces of paper, mostly¬†from the “Gather” collection by Maggie Holmes for¬†Crate Paper & paired it with some ephemera from¬†Pink Paislee¬† “C’est La Vie.” The vellum came from my stash. I cut out everything before I adhered anything down.¬†It was so important to play around with placement in order to get the balance correct.¬†#SpiegelmomScraps #sequins #LGSketchy #shimmerzpaints #cratepaper #scrapbooking #memorykeeping #papercrafting #lawnfawn #sketchchallenge @wordsandpaperscraps @LGsketchy @shimmerzpaintsI wanted to incorporate some peachy-orange into my page and so I used some Dazzlers in Coral Me Crazy on a paper scrap. Once I knew where I wanted all my pieces, I adhered them down. I added some stitching to a few pieces to create dimension. I put pop dots on the backs of my 4 center pieces to ensure they stuck out well. I then layered that chipboard word, also from the Gather collection, on top.¬†#SpiegelmomScraps #sequins #LGSketchy #shimmerzpaints #cratepaper #scrapbooking #memorykeeping #papercrafting #lawnfawn #sketchchallenge @wordsandpaperscraps @LGsketchy @shimmerzpaintsTo finish off my page, I added sequins from the shop, a few plus sign chipboard pieces, and puffy gold pieces by¬†Lawn Fawn. Those little phrases are some of my favorite embellishments ever. Occasionally, Crate Paper comes out with new ones and I absolutely adore them!#SpiegelmomScraps #sequins #LGSketchy #shimmerzpaints #cratepaper #scrapbooking #memorykeeping #papercrafting #lawnfawn #sketchchallenge @wordsandpaperscraps @LGsketchy @shimmerzpaints

I love how this page turned out! For some reason, it seems almost like it’s a little “burnt” around the edges. I hope you’ll play along with some sketch challenges, we’ve got 2 more this month!

Gratitude Friday -Grace

Happy Friday, friends!

Today I’m talking about a fun layout inspired by thankfulness and grace. Fall encourages me to breath in the crisp air and slow down a little. I took the photo in this layout while on a church retreat at a monastery. Talk about experiencing slowed-down stillness.

#spiegelmomscraps #sequins #shimmerzpaints #cratepaper #amytangerine #gold #pinkpaislee #scrapbooking #papercrafting #scrapbook @wordsandpaperscraps @ShimmerzPaints @SpiegelMom_Scraps @PinkPaislee @CratePaper

I started with white cardstock and splattered some Shimmerz Coloringz in Moody Mauve across the middle section of my page. I then added some scraps of wood grained papers horizontally with the paint.

#spiegelmomscraps #sequins #shimmerzpaints #cratepaper #amytangerine #gold #pinkpaislee #scrapbooking #papercrafting #scrapbook @wordsandpaperscraps @ShimmerzPaints @SpiegelMom_Scraps @PinkPaislee @CratePaper

I stamped some plus signs in silver before I layered some Crate Paper “Gather” ephemera underneath my picture, along with some Pink Paislee “C’est La Vie” ephemera. I was a little hesitant to mix that teal with the mauve but I love how it turned out. I also really love the gold accents from those collections.

After I had my picture where I wanted, I began embellishing – my favorite part! I used some cork confetti and sequins from the shop, along with some wood veneer stars stamped silver + some gold enamel dots.

#spiegelmomscraps #sequins #shimmerzpaints #cratepaper #amytangerine #gold #pinkpaislee #scrapbooking #papercrafting #scrapbook @wordsandpaperscraps @ShimmerzPaints @SpiegelMom_Scraps @PinkPaislee @CratePaper

I finished off my layout with some stitching, the perfect finishing touch! I hope this layout has inspired you to seek grace and gratitude during this beautiful time of the year. Be on the look out for some new releases in the shop. I can’t speak for every DT member but I will certainly be including some gorgeous new products in my next project.

P.S. I did a brave (and scary!) thing and ventured into the world of filming process videos. You can check this quick video out here.
