It’s been a wonderful year and I’ve been working hard to bring you some fabulous new products. One of the favorites are my new Birds of a Feather Felties!! These beauties are die cut from a high quality wool felt and perfect for embellishing your scrapbook pages, cards, Project Life spreads and more!! Here’s a look at the debut colors before I show you my layouts today. Check out this little gallery for the new goodies!
Ok, now for my blog hop layouts!! For my first layout, I attached a few different colors of Birds of a Feather Felties using my Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher and tacky glue. I also think running them through the sewing machine would be fabulous!! The other brand new felt die cuts are my Cloudy Days Felties. I love their soft fluffiness.
These photos were taken in October when our youngest daughter met my Nana in Florida for the first time. They met on Nana’s 85th birthday and it couldn’t have been more special for us all! I used Dear Lizzy Serendipity collection papers, along with various other embellishments.
Here are a couple close ups so you can really see the beautiful texture of the felt feathers and the cork hearts.
My next layout is a blast from the past, 4 years ago to be exact. This photo was taken when Abby was only 2 weeks old and crying the entire time we tried to take this photo. The other four girls are truly being troopers here! I used Elle’s Studio papers and cut apart pieces to create the layout.
I knew I wanted to create a couple windows in the layout somewhere and decided to make one on the top and one on the bottom of the red patterned paper section. I used a 2 inch circle punch. To make my shaker/type windows I knew I had to create some dimension and lift the red patterned paper off the main background. To do this, I mounted several pieces of basic craft foam on the back. This is what the backside of the this section looks like… a hot mess right! The red pieces are the craft foam, which is what I’ve been using to add larger areas of dimension onto my cards and layouts. I learned this cost effective trick from Jennifer McGuire, love that girl! I adhered the craft foam with Scotch two sided tape, as my tape runner didn’t work well on the spongy surface. Next, I created my sequin pocket with the actual sequin packaging I use for my products. This is a great way for you to reuse many kinds of packaging items for various manufactures. Give it a try!
And, here’s my flashback holiday layout! The sequins I used were Gold Stardust and Christmas Wishes.
This is my next favorite thing on this layout. I heat embossed this lovely wood veneer from Heidi Swapp with my favorite gold embossing powder; Ranger, Liquid Platinum. It’s not a bright, harsh gold. It’s soft and beautiful.
Wow! I hope you all enjoyed the Holiday Happiness Blog Hop kick off here and have been inspired to do some creating this month! To help jump start you, I also have 4 challenges going on on my Facebook page for you play along with this month. Just click the challenges titles to be taken over to the Facebook event and check them out.
~Three ingredients: Wood Veneer, something circular (brad, doily, etc) and patterned paper from your stash
You’re next stop is the talented Kat Benjamin! Be sure to comment on all the blogs also….. you know there’s a prize for that you guys!!
Hello again SpiegelMom Scraps fans! It’s Sarah again, on the blog, for my final project for November. As I said last week, I made something Christmassy! I geared up and got in the Christmas mood last Wednesday when I made my test Christmas card and shared it on Facebook and Instagram. Here is the card I made! I used cards, envelopes, and ephemera from the new Heidi Swapp line from Joann’s called Oh What Fun. I used a 4″ Gold Foil Doily and Gold Garland Confetti from SpiegelMom Scrap Shop. Heidi even “liked” it on Instagram and commented on it! Very exciting! Continuing in the Christmas spirit, I have three different Christmas projects to share with you today!First is a vellum goodie bag from Cosmo Cricket. I sealed the bag shut with a 4″ Gold Foil Doily. Then I made a 3×4 shaker pocket with an old pocket photo sheet protector and filled it with Poppin’ Pink Flurries, Gold Garland Confetti, and a few 1/4″ gold sequins from my stash. I added a couple of the soon-to-be-in-the-shop Birds Of A Feather white felt feathers. Then I layered on a gold foil snowflake, a Basic Grey Juniper Berry kraft tag, and the “believe” die cut from the Oh What Fun Heidi Swapp collection.
Here is a close up of the goodie bag for more detail. I also added a wood veneer snowflake on top from Michael’s and a few wood veneer stars from Studio Calico in the shaker pocket. Here is goodie bag number two! This time it is a kraft colored bag also from Cosmo Cricket. I embellished it in the same way as the first, making a 3×4 sequin pocket and piling on the ephemera. This time I used another soon-to-be-in-the-shop sequin mix called Christmas Wishes.
Here is a close up of the goodie bag. I also tucked a few wood veneer stars from Studio Calico in the shaker pocket. Such a fun way to use a sequin mix! The new Heidi Swapp collection is such a great match for the new sequin mixes in the shop!
My last item is a gift tag. I once again used the Heidi Swapp Oh What Fun collection. The foundation of the tag is a 4×6 sequin pocket that I made using the same technique as in the goodie bags. I filled it with the new Holiday Happiness mix which will be in the shop very soon! On top I added a gold foil frame from my stash. I also used a Queen & Co. chipboard star and punched a 2″ gold glitter circle for layering. I tucked in a beautiful Birds Of A Feather white felt feather and added tiny letter stickers from Crate Paper After Dark.
I have had so much fun this month creating projects for SpiegelMomScrapShop! A BIG thank you to Jody for asking me to be her guest designer for November! I had never done anything like this before and it has been an exciting leaning experience for me! I look forward to joining the big SpiegelMomScraps blog hop on December 1st! See you then!

The 2016 Design Team Call is out!! Check out the DT Call page HERE and start working on your submission! Deadline is December 30th.
It has been a little while since I have posted a SpiegelMom Scraps project but I have actually been creating projects just quite remiss at putting them on my blog.
Today I have a cute “Hello” card to share. I love the colours on this card and all the gorgeous shimmer from the mists and sequins 🙂
I started with a plain white card base as I adore the way the sequins shine on the white. I cut a doily in half and sprayed with Heidi Swapp Color Shine sprays in blush, gold and mint green and dried between each colour with my heat gun to prevent muddiness. I also sprayed a cork heart with gold and inked the edges. I glued the doily down first then added my stamped sentiment and heart. I then scattered my sequins on the card and adhered them where they fell. Lastly I added the pink May Arts Burlap String and tied in a bow and fastened with a cute peg.
I really like how cute but simple this card is and is also pretty flat so it can go in a regular envelope.
Be sure to join me next week for another great SpiegelMom project – a blinged out thank you card.
Happy hump day all! Today I’m sharing a layout I’ve been working on in very short amounts of time over the last week or so. I’ve posted some works in progress photos of this on my personal Instagram account which you can check out HERE. I’ve been very intentional with my crafting and gone back to my “15 minutes to scrap” philosophy. It truly works for me! This means that I work on a layout or other project in very short amounts of time, usually between 10 and 20 minutes. Many of you know that I’m a busy mama of 5 AND work full time. That’s just plain chaotic at times! If you have a little space to dedicate to your crafting, try it out! Or, try setting up a card table in a corner of your living room and keeping some basic supplies out to work with. It’s worth a try!
For my layout, I used one of my favorite new lines… My Minds Eye, On Trend. I found these amazing My Minds Eye papers at an awesome local scrapbook and stamp store in a nearby town ~ Polka Dots and More! It’s been in business for about 10 years, but I never knew it existed! For shame!! It’s a fabulous shop with monthly specials and classes! You’ll find all your favorite scrapbook and stamping brands, plus a warm small business atmosphere! They also have a great YouTube Channel with lots of short and informative videos!
Here’s my layout. I started with a peachy colored sheet of cardstock that’s been in my stash FOR-EVER!! On it’s own, the cardstock color doesn’t appeal to me at all. But after I brushed some gesso over it and began to layer the On Trend, Stampin Up and Project Life products over it, I began to love it! I also heat embossing the word ‘love’ right onto the Project Life card to serve as my title. You can check out a close up and short video of that HERE on my SpiegelMom_Scraps Instagram account.
After brushing the cardstock with Gesso and letting it dry my cardstock was a little warped but that didn’t really bother me. I think it added more interest to my layout. I began adding layers of On Trend paper, a 5×7″ glassine bag, a Project Life 4×6″ card, Stampin Up vellum with gold dots, Amy Tangerine paper and some super cute tags from the Target Dollar Spot!
To finish off the layout, I added several of the On Trend Ephemera popped up with foam adhesive, some lovely lace and trim from Allison Kreft, gold resin roses from Maggie Holmes for Crate Paper and a Heidi Swapp stamp using my black Memento ink (above the gold number 2).
Thank you for spending your time with me today. I hope you’ve enjoyed my layout! I’ve also linked up the new challenged posted over at The Studio Challenges. One of my lovely Design Team gals, Kat Benjamin, is on their DT and I’ve been wanting to make time to participate in their awesome challenges for months now! Check them out! This month’s challenge is to use pink, black and gold. The pink here is more peachy, but I totally love this color combo! There’s also some hot pink in the tags from Target 🙂
~ Do something creative today!
Hello Everyone, and a big thank you to Jody for having me as Guest Designer for this month. My second project for you is a scrapbook layout using doilies, seam binding and sequins from the SpiegelMom Scraps Etsy shop.
I know the trend right now is for gelatos and watercolours – I have water soluble wax crayons – I guess kind of the same sort of thing. I set to work on the white seam binding and doilies adding subtle touches of pastel colours, picked to match my patterned paper strips.
Seam binding is great for taking colour. I have never had a medium not take – I’ve used mists, inks, watercolour, pro markers, watered down acrylic paint, inktense pencils, and now soluble crayons. Have a play… go on!
As for the doilies, the more water I added the more fragile they became so I recommend not moving them until they are dry to avoid tearing.
Art Bars from Derwent
lace from Crafty Ribbons
patterned paper from My Minds Eye and Cocoa Vanilla
I’ll be back next Tuesday with a mini album full of sequins, cork and wood veneer… see you then,
I cannot tell you how awesome it is to be creating recently! I’ve continued to be super busy stocking and packing new goodies for my Etsy Shop and designing some more fun stuff coming in May. I’m also continuing to burn through my scraps of left over kits and other purchases I made before Two Peas in a Bucket closed their cyber doors.. so sad!
And so now I digress to tonight’s layout! I used a hodgepodge of papers here from Echo Park, Dear Lizzy and another I’m not sure of anymore!! When I mix up a few different papers, sometimes I find it easier to scrap with a black and white photo. This doesn’t get much easier that a simple filter in Instagram! I have to say I have the best little models 🙂 Here’s a picture I snapped with my iPhone of Abby ‘reading’ us a bedtime story a couple weeks ago.
I’m always excited to create on a white card stock background too! A clean slate. This allows me to really stretch those scraps of patterned paper to the max! Take a closer look at the white card stock….
Yes, you see it now don’t you 🙂 I used a fun Kesi Art stencil with some Gesso and Distress Ink mixed together. I love how this turned out, just a hint of texture in the background without being overwhelming! Here are a couple more pics.
Another thing I really love to work into my layouts is some contrast. It doesn’t have to be black on white or anything that drastic.. but just some nice contrast. That’s where my love of cork and wood veneer comes into play. I’ve created a few new cork embellishments (some of which are self adhesive) like these fun clouds which will be in my shop this weekend!
Here are a couple more close ups for ya’ll. That adorable little wood veneer bicycle is from Chic Tags and those cute cork chevrons are in my shop as well.
And I cannot forget the BEAUTIFUL Shimelle wood veneer above from American Crafts!
Thanks so much for spending your time with me today. Now it’s time to decorate your Planners and set your alarms for May 2 & 3, 2015 for……
See ya very soon!
