Scrappy Friday – A Home Decor

Hello There,

So happy to meet you there for my very first Scrappy Friday!

As you probably know, the May Theme at Spiegelmom Scraps is Flowers….

It made me immediately think about a Home Decor box I had bought just a few days ago, containing 3 wooden flowers to decorate and hang upon a wall.

Here is it :

Here is a process slideshow:

For this project, I used the following Spiegelmom Scraps products:

Doilies, Gone with the Wind Sequins to match my papers ( a mixture of Maggie Holmes Chasing Dreams and Dear Lizzy Lovely Day Collections), heart-shaped  and star-shaped cork confettis.

Here are some Sneak Peeks :

Can’t wait to share my next Scrappy Friday with you!

Creative Cards With Karla – Watercolour Diamond Fold Card!

Hello friends! It’s Karla here today with a fun card folding technique to share with you – the Diamond Fold card! It’s a really easy fold that looks amazing, and anyone who receives it will totally love it!

@spiegelmomscraps @jodyspiegelhoff @colorburst @michaelsstores #sequins #cork #watercolor #diamondfoldcard #cardfoldingtechniques #papercrafting #cardmaking #spring #scrapbookingsupplies #butterflies #processvideo #youtube You can follow along with the folding instructions in the video HERE or click below.

I used some Color Burst powders to watercolour my papers, which came with a resist printed on them. The Color Bursts are so fun to work with – and it’s like a magic show every time you spritz them with water!! I used a pretty pink flower sequin from the Raspberry Daisy Dream sequin mix  and stitched it onto my loopy ribbon bow with a clear bead in the center and then added some more pretty sequins from the Summer Sunset and Let’s Be Mermaids mixes.@spiegelmomscraps @jodyspiegelhoff @colorburst @michaelsstores #sequins #cork #watercolor #diamondfoldcard #cardfoldingtechniques #papercrafting #cardmaking #spring #scrapbookingsupplies #butterflies #processvideo #youtube

I used some Izink inks to colour the Cork Confetti Butterflies in to match the pretty colours on the card. I love how the texture of the cork shows through!

Here’s a look at the cork and sequins I used today, which you can find in the shop.

A bit of butterfly paper peeks out from the inside folds when the card is taken out of the envelope. I love that it tucks small enough to fit inside an envelope and then stands upright on it’s own! You can turn the card over and write a personalized message on the back for someone special.

A Scraplift and A Farewell

Hello my fellow scrapbookers! Todays post is bitter sweet for me. I had so much fun creating this layout, but it is the last layout I will be making as a design team member for Jody’s amazing company.

I have absolutely LOVED working with the products in the SpiegelMom Scraps shop. Jody is amazing at making the perfect combination of sequins in her mixes. Before I became a member of the team I was an enamel dot lover and didn’t really understand what you could do with sequins. That’s kind of silly, right?!! They’re the same shape and size as enamel dots, why can’t you use sequins like them?! Well, YOU CAN! Hah! I quickly fell in love with sequins and it has become an item that I have to have on every layout or it doesn’t feel done. One of the things that I have been drawn to lately is “random piles” of sequins. I used to only use a few enamel dots in each cluster, but for some reason with sequins I have to have at least 5, if not a lot more, for the cluster to feel complete.

Anyway, I’m rambling, mostly because I am sad not to be continuing on, but I have realized in my life that I just need some time to scrapbook just for me and no one else. Without further ado, here’s my layout:

I just love it!! The photos and all the colors are just so bright and fun. I started this layout using the American Crafts White Textured Cardstock.

This is the layout I am scraplifting. It’s actually an art journal page by Irit Landgraf:

Isn’t it gorngeous?!! You can watch her process video here.

I think I’ve said this before, but I just LOVE these Corky Cumulous clouds from the shop!! They’re so adorable!

I used the Mint Chocolate Chip and Gun Metal Grey sequin mix in each of the clusters and a silver doily as well.

Like I was saying earlier, I really love the look of piling my sequins. Isn’t it just so pretty?!! I will do my journaling on this Large shipping tag to the left of the bottom photos.

You can watch my process video below:

Thanks so much for stopping by!! If you make a purchase in the store you can use my code, Megan15, through the month of April. I hope you have enjoyed my layouts throughout this last 9 months!

Scraplift Sunday with Crafty Meggy

Hello fellow SMS fans!! I hope you’re having a wonderful Sunday! I am so excited about this layout so I will just jump right in!!

I saw a recent layout by Victoria Marie on youtube and knew immediately that I just HAD to scraplift it! Don’t you just love all the inspiration we have these days between all the different social media we are a part of?!!!

Here is the layout that Victoria made:

Isn’t it just GORGEOUS?!!! I just love the simplicity of it! My layout didn’t turn out quite so simple, but I am in love with it!!

I decided to print off this photo of my newest nephew and me that my sister took last week when they came to visit. That is the thing I love about having my Canon Selphy, I can print out photos and use them immediately.

I made 3 clusters on this layout. Each one of them has Love you Tons Felties, Wolf Gery Heart Felties, Amy’s Sprinkles and Gun Metal Grey sequin mixes (Both of these mixes are sold out and being retired so they’re no longer available. Sorry about that!! BUT, you can find the other amazing sequin mixes here!)

I had a hard time finding a font in the right color that worked with the layout. In the end I went with this one and I love it!!

I used a Silver Foil Holiday Doily in a couple places on the layout. I really love how the silver stands out again the white textured American Crafts cardstock and that black polka dot paper.

And lawst but not least, I used the good old packaging technique on the background with a few Shimmerz paints, Well Blue Me Down Colorings, Before Dawn Vibez and No Yolking Coloringz.

Here’s my process video you can watch if you’d like a closer look at how I made the layout:

Thanks so much for stopping by today! Be sure to come by the shop and check out all the amazing products that Jody has! When you make a purchase you can use my code, Megan15, for 15% off your entire order!

Also, don’t forget that we are having a contest for our monthly blog hop. If you comment along on all of the design team blogs you will be entered to win a $10 shop credit! What About Wednesday: Forming layers

Aloha!!! It’s Hannah with you here today! I hope all is well. It has been real busy here, but I am excited for the spring and with that season change more busyness. With that busyness comes more sunlight, weather weather and spring flowers. Oh and let’s not moon rocks. We have those too.

Haha. Ok maybe you don’t have moon rocks.  My five year old son is convinced that he found a real life moon rock. He was so proud of himself for exploring and finding this moon rock.

As a mom, it was so cute. Seeing his face light up in wonder was priceless. So like any other scrapbooker mom I took a picture of this moon rock. Even though I knew this moon rock was not what he thought it was, there was something in me that couldn’t just break his heart and lighten his discovery. I too played along. Now I am making a layout about this infamous moon rock too.

Let’s take a look at the layout I made.

I knew right from the start I wanted the photo of this moon rock to be the focus of the layout. I also wanted to make a loose grid design, by having two smaller squares under the photo. I knew I wanted to try to add layers to these two grid squares to add to the tone of the layout. It’s all about being fun and searching and finding bit and pieces, like my son had explored and found a major discovery for himself.

I used lots of different patterned papers mixed with a glassine bag, shipping tag, vellum and an acetate ephemera amount the layers. I love the way each of these pieces look sticking out in different spots.

On the corner of the shipping tag I added some Navy and grey feltie hearts. I wanted lots of texture among the layers too. I really helps lift the squares of papers and create shadows that look really cool. I mixed tiny staples with big staples to hold down the feltie hearts in other areas on the layout.

This second square I added a gold doily within the layers. I also used dimensional foam in between a layer to pop it up a bit.

I cut some of the circles from one the of patterned papers and scattered them throughout the layout. Everything was on top of the dictionary patterned paper from the Cool Kid Collection from Crate Paper. I really liked all the words it defines and thought it was perfect for this kind of layout about exploring and make believe.

Also scattered throughout the layout I added both My Clementine and Pandora’s Ombre Sequin mixes. These both had colors that were used in both the Shimelle Little by little collection and the Cool Kid Collection.

I formed the title around the photo. I kept the layers around the photo minimal. I wanted the layers to be focused in the the other two squares. This really makes them pop out more.

These Thickers are so cool. They really make this photo stand out.

The journaling was written on the shipping tag and tucked in the layers. I know it could be harder to get in the protector, but I really lobe how it looks tucked in the layers.

This was such a fun story to tell and layout to make. I love how these little pieces that happen daily throughout my life make up my families’ lives. Our Story. It’s so precious even though the rock wasn’t a real one, it still tells of how my son loves to play and has a great imagination. I am proud as a mom that I can help him remember his story.

I love how these products can help tell that story!!

You can also watch my process video from Youtube here below

I can’t wait to see what you all create and the story you tell about your life. Please make sure you head over to our Facebook group and she all the projects you make with your things from the SpiegelMom Scraps Store.

Until next time Stay Inspired!!

What About Wednesday: Using a Spring Colored papers

Aloha!!! I have been spending time looking through photos I took last year and didn’t scrap yet. Seeing what stories I still want to tell in my albums. It has been fun looking through the years memories.

For this layout I decided to scrap about our trip to the pumpkin patch. This was my kid’s first time going to a pumpkin farm and picking out a pumpkin to carve for Halloween. I had lots of pictures of the brightly colored pumpkins and vibrant rich colors of all the other local produce. Bins full overflowing of amazingly fresh pumpkins, squash and gourds,

In the end I ended up picking a close up picture of a ladybug on my daughter’s hand. I love when I get to take pictures of my kid’s interacting with nature. Cayden wanted to keep that ladybug. Take him home. Take care of him by feeding him and giving him water to drink. I love how children are so willing to learn and appreciate the little things around them, like that lady bug. These are moments I don’t want to forget.

Scrapbooking gives me the opportunity to do that. Telling these moments I would definitely forget as we get busier and the kid’s grow older and become more interested in other things.

I debated pulling out some older Autumn colored papers for this layout. The rich colors would really help the story of this Autumn story. Only except Cayden was wearing a bright pink zip up sweater and that was in the background of most of this picture.

This year many of the newer lines have lots of bright springtime colors, more so than some past years after CHA. These colors are fun and cheerful. They are happy and really inviting after a long winter.

I knew these types of colors and patterns would be perfect for this layout. I decided to use a Clique kit that had lots Shimelle’s little by little collection. I wanted to use the playful and bright theme to help tell my story.

I layered my papers and attached them using my sewing machine with a teal thread. I added stitching to the sides papers for added texture.

I also added a medium shipping tag to a glassine bag. To the tag I added a hot pink ampersand . All of these were held in by more stitching. I knew I wouldn’t be adding my journaling to the tag but that you would be able to see it’s contents inside the glassine bag. I also added some puffy stickers and die cuts to the top of the tag, along with a mini clothespin. Seriously these clothes pins are so much fun to use.

I wanted to add something delicate to help tie in that fact that this little tiny bug is so fragile. I layered the picture with a wood grain paper and the doily. On that corner of the picture I added some die cuts, a puffy sticker and some wood chips I bought from the clearance section of the store.

Also to add more texture I used the cork butterflies . I stitched through the middle part of the body to add something fun and cool. I may be a little obsessed with using my new sewing machine lately. It looks so cool though, I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.

For the title I added an acrylic phrase at the bottom of the photo, I used it along with the phrase on a die cut tag at the corner. I love the way it is layered together and fits snuggly around.

I sprinkled My Clementine Sequins around the cork butterflies. I wanted to give the illusion that the butterflies are flying just like the lady bug does.

I wrote the journaling around the big layer of patterned paper. I really like how the journaling emphasizes the big cluster of papers and layers.

Here is a look at the finished layout.

I hope you are encouraged to pull out papers that have a different theme from your photo and use them in a different way. Also don’t forget to add texture to your layouts.

I also hope you stop by the Facebook group and share the layouts and projects you are working on with the SpiegelMom Scraps products you have.

I can’t wait to see you around.

What About Wednesday: Mixed Media Layout

13932877_10210738580967273_2143640393516853298_n

Aloha!! It’s Hannah here today!!

How is your week going? My hubby had a 4 day weekend and that always throws my week off. But I thankfully got an extra day off to scrap all day. As much as the week is all crazy, I can never say no to an extra day of all day scrapbooking. I know I am lucky to have a spouse who kicks me to my scrap room.

Since I had all day to play I decided to play with some mixed media. I like to my time and really play. I used to use media a lot more than I do now, and when I pick up my paints it’s like riding a bike. I love the ride playing with mixed media takes me on.

I started with some clear gesso on white card stock. I wanted a little protection since I really didn’t know what I would end up using on the background. I like to go into my layouts open to whatever feels right. Sometimes this works well for me, sometimes it doesn’t turn out quite right. I am ok with this journey though. It helps me learn and grow as a crafter and scrapbooker.

I grabbed some acrylic paints and cup of water. Typically on a canvas you wouldn’t want to mix water and acrylic paint. The water effects the structure of the paint. On a canvas this could mean the paint could not adhere properly. I think in the case of paper though, water mixed with the acrylic paint it really helps it be more fluid, and dry quicker. I haven’t noticed that the water has affected my paint on the paper in the layouts I have made in the past. ( I say this as a warning, that any media that isn’t photo safe, could have an effect on the photo if you don’t use enough layers between the paint and the photo. Use your gut, with this info. If you feel weird and wrong for any unknown product and it’s ability to effect your photo, don’t do it. For me I make many of these layouts for my enjoyment and it doesn’t bother me. That is just me though.)

I used my paint brush to add drops of the watered down acrylic paint. I do this technique often. It is easy, and it’s hard to mess up. You can add as many or as few droplets to your page for the look you want. I like to mix big and small paint drops.

IMG_2973

This is an image I took while my paint was drying.  I added each color. Then dried it for less than a minute with my heat tool. I then let it air dry for about 15 minutes. I added blue plus signs with a thin watercolor brush. I thought this would be fun. Seeing plus signs sticking out throughout the layout. I also added paint lines on the corners of the layout. To tell you the truth this is part I wish I would have left out. I wished I would have hand drawn lines with a black ink pen. But I didn’t and This is where you have to decide to keep going and see how the layout will turn out or stop and toss it. It really is a personal thing to choose. Some days I have been known to start pulling things off a layout in the middle of making it because I hated it. It again is part of this process of learning and growing and becoming the scrapbooker you want to be.

Once dry I started to build my layers. This is my favorite part. I love finding, searching for all these bits and pieces and fitting them in like a puzzle.

For this layout I used one 4×4 square photo. I really enjoy this size for building layers. I really try to switch things up and not use it all the time though, because it is easy for things to feel the same when I use this size all the time. Even though depending on the papers you layer each layout can look completely different.

IMG_3009

I love this photo of my puppy!! At the time of this picture (when I took it) she was about 5 or so months. So curious about everything I was doing in my scrap room. One day I was trying to take pictures of my layout with her inside. She wanted to be in on the action. I am so glad I took this image while trying to hold her in my legs to keep her away my layout. It really makes my smile. Having a small puppy can be so much fun, even though it really makes everything much more difficult to get done. Haha!!

While building my layers I grabbed papers I thought would match the photo and papers that I had laying around. I love mixing sizes and fitting them in around.

IMG_3004

I added a white doily and a medium shipping tag in my layers. I love the texture they add. Also the shapes are much different than the strips of patterned paper which works really well the pull everything in, but make it unique.

IMG_3005

I tucked die cuts in my layers too. This is the fun part of layering, finding pieces that are odd and  making them fit. Sometimes all it is a color that works. Like this die cut.. Hello.

IMG_3007

The color worked and I love how it just fits.

I added some grey feltie hearts on this layout. They are my favorite!! Literally they are amazing. Paired with some white thread and a flair badge from The Spiegel Mom Scraps collab with Accent Scrapbooking. I love how the green in you is picked up by the strip of green paper I used.

I scattered some Holly Berries Sequins around the whole layout. I really like how this holiday inspired mix works because of it’s nature feel.

IMG_3006

Especially with these wood pieces that I picked up in the clearance part of the shop.

IMG_3003

I really played up on the fun and silliness of the photo with this layout. I really like when the tone of the photo matches with the layout.

IMG_3011

I love using stickers for titles especially when I mix that with Thickers. These white ones are so puffy and fun.

IMG_3001

Here is the whole layout.
