Working with a Sketch

Hello Folks!

Laura here today with my version of a sketch…

I love working with sketches.  Sometimes I go off on a tangent and the finished layout looks nothing like the sketch, other times I use the sketch very literally.  This was a literal copy up to a point…

I got my ruler out and did a little maths to get my patterned paper sections exact.  I cut duplicate pieces in vellum so I could layer up with foam pads for added dimension and shadows.  They are very subtle layers but, I think, well worth it.

I stuck my glitter spot acetate down with 3d glue gel for even more dimension.  I only used the glue behind the glitter and one spot I knew I would be adding an embellishment.

When I had finished my literal copy I felt the bottom needed something extra so added some bunting.  I used some yellow baker’s twine to anchor my pennants.

When it came to embellishing I added some Salt of the Earth sequins and Shooting Cork Stars.  These stars are quickly becoming a favourite of mine.  They are small enough to add to most layouts without overtaking but still adding the gorgeous cork texture and colour.  They are also easy to alter with gesso or paint if you fancy the texture but not the colour!

Thanks for stopping by today,

Laura

Yummy! by Evi

Hello scrapbook friends!   Thank you for joining me for today’s layout.  I have a mixed media colorful background and then used black and white elements in order not to compete with the colors.  This is always a great trick when you have a colorful or busy background, print your photos in black and white, so they do not clash with the background.

We have teamed up with Creative Embellishments this month and I am able to play with the gorgeous chip board elements available in their shop.   I recently went to the State Fair and trying all the food is my main objective.  In the course of the night, I had about 8 different foodie photos and thought they would work perfectly with the fork, spoon and knife chip board pieces.

I applied a light layer of silver metallic paste by Heidi Swap on them and set aside to dry before I adhered them to my layout.

I then added mint green paint with wide brush strokes and then mists from Shimmerz in Sapphaire and Jeni B Bleu.  I used scraps of black and white papers and cut them into squares and rectangles as my ephemera.  I clustered and angled my photos and added the squares for more interest around the photos.  I added my chip board pieces as book ends to each photo.

For my finishing touches I added Sweet Pea sequins for the last details on my layout.  If you would like to make a purchase at the Spiegelmom Scraps shop, remember to use code Evi15 for a discount at checkout.

CAKE FACE

Hello hello!  Have you ever had a birthday party that you just wanted to just dig your face into?  Well my grandson did and it was hilarious.  This was his second birthday party and he just enjoyed his cake so much.  I am a huge cake fan as long as it taste good, but if it does not taste good, the cake gets a good tossing…Lol!

This layout has a bunch of Spiegelmom Scraps goodies on it. Take a look!

I used a Basic Grey collection called Urban Luxe and the ephemera pack. The cork stars are called Cork Confetti and they are from the Spiegelmom shop as well as the larger cork stars called Chunky Cork Stars.  Here is a close up of the stars.

I just love how the Classic Cozy sequins match the colors of the papers!

Here is another close up of the stars. Here is the Chunky stars and the Cork Confetti stars.

The wood veneer is from my stash as well as the enamel dots.

Thanks so much for stopping by and be sure to stop by the Spiegelmom Scraps shop to pick up some new goodies for your stash!  Have a wonderful day!  Be sure to use Felicia15 to receive 15% off of your first order!

What About Wednesday: Forming layers

Aloha!!! It’s Hannah with you here today! I hope all is well. It has been real busy here, but I am excited for the spring and with that season change more busyness. With that busyness comes more sunlight, weather weather and spring flowers. Oh and let’s not moon rocks. We have those too.

Haha. Ok maybe you don’t have moon rocks.  My five year old son is convinced that he found a real life moon rock. He was so proud of himself for exploring and finding this moon rock.

As a mom, it was so cute. Seeing his face light up in wonder was priceless. So like any other scrapbooker mom I took a picture of this moon rock. Even though I knew this moon rock was not what he thought it was, there was something in me that couldn’t just break his heart and lighten his discovery. I too played along. Now I am making a layout about this infamous moon rock too.

Let’s take a look at the layout I made.

I knew right from the start I wanted the photo of this moon rock to be the focus of the layout. I also wanted to make a loose grid design, by having two smaller squares under the photo. I knew I wanted to try to add layers to these two grid squares to add to the tone of the layout. It’s all about being fun and searching and finding bit and pieces, like my son had explored and found a major discovery for himself.

I used lots of different patterned papers mixed with a glassine bag, shipping tag, vellum and an acetate ephemera amount the layers. I love the way each of these pieces look sticking out in different spots.

On the corner of the shipping tag I added some Navy and grey feltie hearts. I wanted lots of texture among the layers too. I really helps lift the squares of papers and create shadows that look really cool. I mixed tiny staples with big staples to hold down the feltie hearts in other areas on the layout.

This second square I added a gold doily within the layers. I also used dimensional foam in between a layer to pop it up a bit.

I cut some of the circles from one the of patterned papers and scattered them throughout the layout. Everything was on top of the dictionary patterned paper from the Cool Kid Collection from Crate Paper. I really liked all the words it defines and thought it was perfect for this kind of layout about exploring and make believe.

Also scattered throughout the layout I added both My Clementine and Pandora’s Ombre Sequin mixes. These both had colors that were used in both the Shimelle Little by little collection and the Cool Kid Collection.

I formed the title around the photo. I kept the layers around the photo minimal. I wanted the layers to be focused in the the other two squares. This really makes them pop out more.

These Thickers are so cool. They really make this photo stand out.

The journaling was written on the shipping tag and tucked in the layers. I know it could be harder to get in the protector, but I really lobe how it looks tucked in the layers.

This was such a fun story to tell and layout to make. I love how these little pieces that happen daily throughout my life make up my families’ lives. Our Story. It’s so precious even though the rock wasn’t a real one, it still tells of how my son loves to play and has a great imagination. I am proud as a mom that I can help him remember his story.

I love how these products can help tell that story!!

February Fun 9×12 Layout with Sarah

Hello SMS fans!  It’s Sarah on the blog today and I’m sharing a 9×12 layout documenting February.  I have changed the way I document this year and have also changed format.  I call it  “No Rules, Just Fun!”  No keeping track of week numbers or stressing out about not taking enough pictures every week.  I simply photograph what I want and print my photos when I want.  Here is my last page documenting February of 2017:

I started with a 9×12 piece of patterned paper from Messy Box, I grabbed my Studio Calico kit, Citrus Twist kit and a bunch of goodies from the SMS shop and got crafting!

I filled a Small Glassine Bag with the new Rockin’ Pink Ombre Sequin Mix and sewed it shut with my machine.  I used Red Tape to adhere the “BRRR!” from Elle’s Studio.  I typed out some journalling on my new WRMK Typewriter and added Blustery Day Felties, Perfectly Pink Felties and some Corky Flakes.

I adhered my journalling cards and photographs with my EZ Runner Grand.  I also ran my sewing machine over the felt snowflakes for added texture.  I hand wrote some journalling using my Ali Edwards Fine Line Pen.

I also made a 4×6 insert and used half of a Corky Flake and half of a Blustery Day Feltie.  Here is the obverse:

I hope you have enjoyed my latest project!  Look for more from me the last Sunday of the month for Shake It Sunday!

Items I used from the SMS shop:

PL March Wk 1 – Live Today

The Monday after losing an hour of sleep is always a hard one.. I’m here today with a colorful spring spread hoping to brighten the first day of your work week!

#spiegelmomscraps #shimmerz #mixedmedia #projectlife #pocketscrapbooking #pocketpages #corkheart #stamping #scrapbooking #papercrafting #amytangerine #felicityjane @felicityjanestudio @spiegelmom_scraps @amytangerine @shimmerzpaints

I really love capturing the details of our home.. I wanted to incorporate some floral prints into this spread of the new flower arrangement in our kitchen. I used several papers from the Felicity Jane “Jane” March kit.. my first one. I made a deal with myself that if I were subscribing to a new kit, I would do a better job of incorporating products that I already have.

I have lots of Shimmerz products from the shop hanging out in my craft room. I chose this shade of green to add a little detail to my spread (like those dots highlighting the “photos I love” journaling card) and create an ombre filler card. I absolutely love using Acri-Tonez with water – it creates a water-color look that still has a matte-like finish! So great!

Do you have some shimmerz Acri-Tonez in colors you struggle to use? Try using it in combination with water for a water-color effect. It really softens the color!

I thought cork products were the perfect balance for this spread – the natural tones worked well with the pastel color palette! I used arrows and hearts from the shop.

I love the layering of sequins (this mix!) on cork – and the staple just adds some whimsy! Fun fact, I keep forgetting to order tiny staples for my tiny AC stapler, so those are full sized staples.. HA. Also on my page are thickers from Amy Tangerine’s “Finders Keepers” and Dear Lizzy “Saturday” collections.

I really like how the page on the right looks without any pictures, really functioning as a pretty title page. Especially since the left side is so full of color.

Hope you felt inspired today!

Scraplift Sunday with Crafty Meggy

Hello scrappy friends!! This is Megan and I have a super fun layout for you!! I was on pinterest looking for layouts and I found this one:

I immediately fell in LOVE with it and had so much fun making my own version!

Here’s the layout I made. I really love how it turned out! I had so much fun making it!!

I am doing a competition with some scrappers and one of the challenges was to use 5 different alphas in a title so I decided to do it on this layout. I really love how it turned out.

I used a couple sequin mixes from the shop, Rockin’ Pink Ombre and Amy’s Sprinkles. The flair is from KJKareen’s etsy shop.

I also used a doily and Shimmerz Paints in Princess and Bamboo Leaf

I used another flair badge from KJKareen and the sequins on top of this Large tag where I will end up writing my journaling.

I really love this title!

I hope you enjoyed seeing this layout!! I will have a video up on my YouTube channel a bit later this week so you can visit me here.

Thanks for stopping by today! I hope you’re having a great weekend!
