Hazel & Ruby Blog Share!

hazel and ruby blog share

Hey, I’m so happy you made it!  Yay for another Clique Kits blog share!! Weren’t Gia’s projects so inspiring and FAB.  I know, right!  So, if you didn’t make here from Gia’s Blog, no worries.  You can always start from the beginning at our CLIQUE KITS BLOG and hop along on our creative journey today.

This month, we created with Hazel & Ruby’s papers and some goodies Gia sent us CK Girls.  I loved the girly papers overall, but when I pulled out photos to work with I just wasn’t feelin’ it.. ya know, that creative mojo we have inside of us.  So, after walking away {and seriously vacuuming our basement where my scrap shop is} I went back and with a fresh view and starting cutting.  Yes, I starting cutting the papers!  Sometimes, even when I totally love a piece of paper I just can’t find the ‘perfect’ use for it.  And then it sits in my stash, and sits some more.. and well, you know what happens.  You don’t use it!  BLA!!  That’s a paper crime in my book scrappers, so let’s stop it right now.   Just cut it.  That’s how this layout evolved into being the newest member of my 2013 family scrapbook.

The base is a piece of cardstock from my stash, which was perfect with the bits of yellow in the patterns.  I loved the bold zig zags, but loved it more when I fussy cut the zig zags piece along the left side.  After I did that, the rest of the layout fell into place pretty quickly. I also added some texture & interest to my cloud shapes using an embossing folder, to be named soon! (click on each picture in the gallery below the full layout to make them bigger)

Next up, bubbles??  When I looked at this paper with all the small dots in neat rows, all I could think about was bubbles and pictures of our girls in the tub.  So, that’s what a dug out.  Abby is 2 years old now, but these pictures have been printed since she was about 10 months old 🙂  I can’t be the only one who does this??  Please tell me I’m not…

Again, I used a cardstock base (off-white) then I trimmed that dots paper down to 11×11″ and rounded the corners to keep things…well, round.  Since I already trimmed the pink paper with all the fun arrows down I used that for the next piece of my background.  That’s the beauty of working with a collection all together, everything coordinates.  My long vertical banner is the opposite side of the trimmed 1×12″ dots paper.  One of the Hazel & Ruby pattern paper sheets is full of fun 3×4″ journaling cards. These are super fun to layer and make easy titles for your layouts too.

My favorite page element is the big sequin shaker that sticks out from the bottom of my photos.  I used a 5×7″ glassine bag and dumped in a couple spoonful’s of sequins, a few Studio Calico Wood Veneers and a couple random buttons. I sealed up the folded flap with two sided tape and staples.  Nothing is sneaking out of that sucker lol!  I also used two sided tape to adhere my sequin shaker to my layout and staples along the top since it was a little heavy.

If you know me at all, you know that I adore the negative.  Negative shapes that it!  At the top right you’ll see the wood veneer notecard with clouds layered on top.  Then just below that is the negative of the larger cloud.  I added a few Hazel & Ruby word stickers in the middle, which ended up right on the glassine bag.  Then I added a couple sequins and a Studio Calico wood veneer star using Aileen’s Tacky Glue.

Here’s a few quick close ups for you.  Check out the sequin shaker and some of the simple layering around my baby girl lovin’ her bath in the kitchen sink.  Don’t all those sequins and buttons floating around in there remind you of bubbles too?!

And for my final layout today, Abby is showing off her attitude! This layout had to be more bold to reflect her personality.  I used a full sheet of Hazel & Ruby for the background, then built it around my sassy little Abby’s photos.  I didn’t add a whole lot of embellishments to this layout.  One I HAD to use was the Freckled Fawn Camera paper clip.  Even though I love the look of the fun shaped paper clips hanging off of paper layering, I wanted the whole camera to be seen.   My solution:  I used a solid green piece from one of the papers and cut a small slit just off center.  Pretty easy!
