Welcome to today’s Clique Kits blog share featuring Kaitlin Sheaffer with her fun & fresh Wildflowers paper line with Carta Bella! Clique Kit’s mission is to spotlight the designer behind each paper line, their creative process, what’s on their desk and even what inspired them to design that particular paper line. You can find her Q&A on the Clique Kits blog here, which is the beginning of this wild blog share today. That being said, you may have found your way here from Gia’s blog, The Painted Crane.  If you didn’t, you can check out our Clique Kits Blog HERE  for the line up today & get some awesome FREE printables!!!  Here is our quote this month which led to our challenge to use something “wild”.

NEXT UP MY WILDFLOWER LAYOUTS!!!

The first layout is about us having some backyard adventures in fall of 2012. I was so lucky to snap a couple pics with my phone before Sari and Hannah took off for the little wooden area behind our house to play. First, we stood there all lined up and ready to run, but something caught my attention on the ground. Our shadows! I begged the girls to stay still for 10 seconds and they did, thankfully for me! I snapped that pic just before they took off running while holding hands… just melts my heart. Another fab photo moment caught by a cell phone camera!!

My kit contained a cool 12×12” navy blue corrugated cardstock from Fancy Pants Designs.  My wheels were spinning for a while on this one.  The corrugated navy blue felt like a boy page, but we don’t have boys… then it felt like outdoors so I ran with that.  I went with a messy collage type layout with lots of different layers and textures to kind of ‘match’ the outdoors.  I started by painting the corrugated background with silver acrylic paint.  Next I started picking out my embellishment, stickers and of course the awesome exclusive, designer flair designed by Clique Kit graphic designer Lacey Gasper!!!   I also used some mini glassine bags which were actually packaging for some of my embellishments.  Can you spot them??

So, my advice to you when you get a piece of paper, cardstock or other funky element in a kit that you haven’t used before ask yourself “what does this feel like or remind me of?”  It’s a great way to get your creative juices flowing.

Ok, next up is a must have selfie layout of Sari, Hannah and I just before dropping them off at school a few weeks ago.  It’s been bitter cold here in Wisconsin, hovering around ZERO far too often!  Since our girls are dressed head to toe in their Hello Kitty winter coats, hats, mittens and snow pants I reached for this pink patterned paper with the white ink splash on it.  Pre-misted perfection!  I’m also addicted, slightly, to gold accents.  I used a 6” Gold Foil doily from my Etsy Shop {SpiegelMom’s Scrap Shop} and several of the 6×6” papers to create the photo mat for our selfie picture.  I also had some soft wispy pink feathers, a blue cats eye ink pad and some small die cuts in my kit.  As I was planning my next move, I looked down and saw the ink pad sitting on a journaling card and the blue die cut camera.  Light bulb moment!  I didn’t want to mess up the the front of the camera but loved that the lens was a heart shape.  I used the backside of the camera die cut as an inking mask to add some bright blue hearts floating up the left side of my layout.  I just placed the die cut camera onto the paper, held it in place with my fingers (you could also use washi tape to hold the die cut) and ‘stamped’ the ink pad straight down into the heart cut out.  Look through some of your die cuts and see what shapes you can find inside the actual die cut.  I bet you come up with some cool inking masks!!  I also added some bright fuchsia sequins from my Etsy shop for some added flair.Jan 14 043 Jan 14 044 Jan 14 045 Jan 14 046 Jan 14 048

As for that journaling card, I cut out the feather and added it to the feather stickers in my Wildflowers kit. I also die cut a few more feathers in the bright orchid cardstock (the color of the year also!)  See the looped pink string along the bottom?  To keep that in place, just use some tacky glue (or other clear-drying glue) to tack it down.

My last layouts are going in my new pocket page style album.  This is my main plan for 2014!  It’s also a great way to involve your kids in the process.  They are ‘family’ albums after all.  I have a couple Project Life kits but I know I’ll be creating my own pocket-style cards too!  You can either leave the edges square like I did, or round the corners for a different look.

On this layout,  I was stuck on what to put in two of the pockets, one 3×4” and 4×6”.  Nothing seemed to fit.  So, I created fun little floating embellishment pockets!  I love how they turned out.  I just dumped in some 6mm Silverado Sequins from my Etsy Shop, die cuts, the sparkly heart on a stick and then sewed it shut.  I used my gold thread and a #2 stitch lenth.  I literally just ran it through like your would fabric!  It’s so easy!  I forgot to mention that I added a Glue Dot to each side of the sparkly heart stick because I wanted it to stay upright and not do flips inside the little pocket.  I think it worked out pretty good overall.  OH and how about that fun feather!!  Why not try adding some non-scrapbooking type materials into your pocket.  The possibilities are endless.. ok except for perishable foods and such LOL!

In the photo above, I didn’t want to leave the heart ’empty’ so I glued the chevron die cut onto the outside of the plastic page protector.  Who says you can’t scrap on the out of those too, right?!
