What About Wednesday: Forming layers

Aloha!!! It’s Hannah with you here today! I hope all is well. It has been real busy here, but I am excited for the spring and with that season change more busyness. With that busyness comes more sunlight, weather weather and spring flowers. Oh and let’s not moon rocks. We have those too.

Haha. Ok maybe you don’t have moon rocks.  My five year old son is convinced that he found a real life moon rock. He was so proud of himself for exploring and finding this moon rock.

As a mom, it was so cute. Seeing his face light up in wonder was priceless. So like any other scrapbooker mom I took a picture of this moon rock. Even though I knew this moon rock was not what he thought it was, there was something in me that couldn’t just break his heart and lighten his discovery. I too played along. Now I am making a layout about this infamous moon rock too.

Let’s take a look at the layout I made.

I knew right from the start I wanted the photo of this moon rock to be the focus of the layout. I also wanted to make a loose grid design, by having two smaller squares under the photo. I knew I wanted to try to add layers to these two grid squares to add to the tone of the layout. It’s all about being fun and searching and finding bit and pieces, like my son had explored and found a major discovery for himself.

I used lots of different patterned papers mixed with a glassine bag, shipping tag, vellum and an acetate ephemera amount the layers. I love the way each of these pieces look sticking out in different spots.

On the corner of the shipping tag I added some Navy and grey feltie hearts. I wanted lots of texture among the layers too. I really helps lift the squares of papers and create shadows that look really cool. I mixed tiny staples with big staples to hold down the feltie hearts in other areas on the layout.

This second square I added a gold doily within the layers. I also used dimensional foam in between a layer to pop it up a bit.

I cut some of the circles from one the of patterned papers and scattered them throughout the layout. Everything was on top of the dictionary patterned paper from the Cool Kid Collection from Crate Paper. I really liked all the words it defines and thought it was perfect for this kind of layout about exploring and make believe.

Also scattered throughout the layout I added both My Clementine and Pandora’s Ombre Sequin mixes. These both had colors that were used in both the Shimelle Little by little collection and the Cool Kid Collection.

I formed the title around the photo. I kept the layers around the photo minimal. I wanted the layers to be focused in the the other two squares. This really makes them pop out more.

These Thickers are so cool. They really make this photo stand out.

The journaling was written on the shipping tag and tucked in the layers. I know it could be harder to get in the protector, but I really lobe how it looks tucked in the layers.

This was such a fun story to tell and layout to make. I love how these little pieces that happen daily throughout my life make up my families’ lives. Our Story. It’s so precious even though the rock wasn’t a real one, it still tells of how my son loves to play and has a great imagination. I am proud as a mom that I can help him remember his story.

I love how these products can help tell that story!!
