Documenting December: Embellishments

Happy Friday!

I wonder if you’re all looking forward to the first weekend of December as much as I am!

You may have noticed yesterday on my blog during our hop that I began my journey into documenting December. I’ve decided that I really want to focus on the tiny details of the month that make it so special. I don’t want to get too caught up in creating during my documenting so I made several embellishments in advance. This is my alternative to foundation pages – I’m not so great at guessing how I want my final pages to look so instead I created some embellishments to add in as I go.

I started by painting a shipping tag a gray color that would coordinate well with the print on that Pink Paislee Yuletide tag. I trimmed down a gorgeous gold foil doily so that it would fit well in between. There are so many doilies in the shop that are perfect for holiday crafting (in fact, I just did a Pinterest search for ideas -so many good ones!) Once my tag was dry, I layered on some snowflake die cuts (download the FREE CUT FILE here), Yuletide ephemera stars, & sequins from the Holly Berries mix. I topped it off with a sticker phrase from Crate Paper.

One thing I’ve found I struggle with in using 6 x 8 albums is that there aren’t pockets for horizontal 3 x 4 in the full size page protectors. I tend to photograph in landscape a majority of the time. In order to include more pictures, I created some 6 x 4 page protectors. You can save a few steps by using any size page protector that has two pockets like this. Be sure to leave margin for punching holes, holes which I forgot to punch, oops! I then use my Fuse tool to seal any edges. So easy!

One trick I like to use for lightening up my details – mixing sequins! In this shaker pocket, I wanted to use some more white to bring out the white snowflake die cuts, so I used one of the NEW sequin mix releases – Holiday Traditions  & added just a pinch of Wedding Bells. I love how it turned out! Try it!

For my last embellishment, I combined Yuletide ephemera with our snowflake diecuts, and a few sequins from the Holly Berries mix. I stitched them together and I was done. It’s amazing how stitching can finish off a project.

I hope this inspired you to make some of your own holiday embellishments!
