Aloha my scrappy friends!!  This past week the weather here in Washington has been so nice, high forties, sunny. It has me thinking about nature. All the photos I have been taking this summer/fall of nature around me.

Also lately I have been in a monochromatic mood. I really have been enjoying mixing different shades of the same color together. I really have been loving focusing on a couple colors that match or compliment each other and use just that. Picking out embellishments that match is like a scavenger hunt in my stash.

This fall I took some photos of the pinecones from our yard. I have been really into taking nature pictures of the things around us. Trying to get creative with my shots and take pictures of things I see everyday but don’t always capture. These are usually things that inspire me when I sit down at my scrap desk.

I started off using my Shimmerz sprays with a paint brush for different size drops on top of White card stock. I like using a medium size brush so I can get bigger drops but also tap the brush for small splatters. I used Shimmerz Vibez Eggnoggin’ and Bamboo Leaf. I also used Tinsel from Heidi Swapp Color Shine to get a black gray color.

I knew the color would work with the outline I doodled along the outside of the layout. I also knew I wanted to use the black and white line crossed paper from Maggie Holmes Gather Collection to mat my two photos.

I used lots of layers on this layout. I really wanted a natural feel to them, to mimic the images. I used a past kit from Clique Kits that had similar colors and a fall theme. I Used white doilies, ripped washi tape and Studio Calico wood chips in the layers for a chunky look to my layers.

Like I mentioned I wanted a monochromatic look, so I stuck with green, gray and orange tones throughout my layout. The Evergreen Bough Sequin mix was perfect for this layout. Paired with the Dear Lizzy chipboard Thicker plus signs it added a fun scattering of embellishments that I think didn’t over power the layout.

I added Pretty Little Studio word phrases and labels from a past spring line that was very nature themed. I even made a banner with bits from the labels in the layers.

The felt Evergreen Trees were given to me by a friend and they are so fun and look great tucked in next to my clusters. I used them with some baker’s twine and Maya Road white tassels. I love this element. It really draws your eyes to the photos.

I really just love how it all turned out and really helps showcase these two really fun and cool pictures of pinecones from my yard. One during the summer when they were covered with sap, and in the fall fallen apart ready to drop seeds for future pine trees. I love that my kids are super thrilled to play and experience this nature around them, by collecting them and examine them.

I love that I get to remember their excitement for learning and experimenting with nature. I hope they don’t lose their wanderlust! Their joy for the beauty and world around them.

I really, really love these Dear Lizzy Thicker word phrases. I couldn’t help but use one for the title. I layered it on top a Dear Lizzy cut apart that says Bliss Ave. With plus signs and sequins scattered around it, it really is a big focus.
